To preview and show a desktop pet, open Pets in the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS or Windows, choose a companion, then enter /pet or select Show pet. Codex is a mode within the ChatGPT desktop app, rather than a separate current desktop application. Pets are optional cosmetics: choosing one changes its appearance, not how ChatGPT completes tasks.
Where desktop pets are available
The floating pet is documented for the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS and Windows. The Codex IDE extension does not include a pet picker or floating overlay. On the web, pets can appear inside supported ChatGPT Work chats, but that experience does not include the desktop overlay, activity tray, or /pet command. See OpenAI’s Pets in ChatGPT guide for the current product details.
