Usually, yes—if your Galaxy phone shows an Uninstall option for SmartThings. On some devices the app is preinstalled and may only be disabled or hidden, if those controls are offered. Removing the app from your phone is different from choosing Leave SmartThings, which Samsung says erases SmartThings data and removes the service from your Samsung account.
Check whether your Galaxy phone lets you uninstall SmartThings
- Open Settings > Apps > SmartThings.
- Check the controls on the App info screen. If Uninstall appears, select it and confirm.
- If Uninstall is not available, check whether Disable is offered. You can also look for a hide-app option if you only want SmartThings out of the Home and Apps screens.
Samsung explains that preinstalled apps have different options: some can be deleted, while others can only be hidden or disabled. Availability depends on the app and device, so these alternatives are not guaranteed for SmartThings on every Galaxy model or software version. See Samsung’s guide to deleting preinstalled Galaxy apps and Samsung’s instructions for disabling or hiding preinstalled apps. Menu labels can vary by device, region, and software version.
Choose the action that matches your goal
| Action | Scope | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Uninstall the app | This phone | Removes the app from the phone when Uninstall is available. Samsung’s cited guidance does not say that uninstalling the mobile app by itself automatically deletes SmartThings account data, devices, or every service-side automation. |
| Disable or hide the app | This phone | Disabling stops the app from running in the usual way when that control is offered; hiding removes it from the Home and Apps screens. The available choice depends on the device. |
| Sign out | Your current app session | Signs out without choosing the separate account-level Leave SmartThings action. Samsung lists signing out separately. |
| Leave SmartThings | SmartThings service and Samsung account | Samsung says this erases SmartThings data and removes the service from the Samsung account. Do not use it just to remove the app from one phone. |
| Remove a device or linked service | Selected connected-home items | Can remove devices or routines associated with a linked service; some device removals may also require a reset or hub exclusion. |
SmartThings provides controls for connected devices and related features such as rooms and routines. Uninstalling it means you lose access to those app functions on that phone. If you only want to stop using the app there, consider signing out or adjusting relevant settings first. Samsung identifies notification and location-related options among the configurable SmartThings settings. Its SmartThings sign-out instructions distinguish signing out from leaving the service.
Do not confuse uninstalling with leaving SmartThings
Samsung’s support instructions warn about the account-level control: “However, do not tap this unless you want to erase all of your data and leave the service.” That warning refers to Leave SmartThings, not the phone’s Uninstall control. If your aim is only to remove the app from a Galaxy phone, use the App info screen instead.

What to check before removing connected devices or services
If you are dismantling your smart-home setup rather than just clearing the app from your phone, review what is connected before removing anything:

- Monitor and control compatible devices in your home using a single smartphone app for your phone
- Automate connected devices in your home and set them to turn on or off when doors are opened, people come and go, and much more
- Works with a wide range of smartphone compatible products
- Linked cloud services: Deleting a linked service may also remove its associated devices or routines from SmartThings.
- Individual devices: Removing a device can require additional cleanup, such as excluding a Z-Wave device from a hub or resetting the device.
- Voice assistants: Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa links can be unlinked separately if you no longer want them connected.
These are separate tasks from uninstalling the mobile app. SmartThings’ device and linked-service removal guidance describes the possible connected-home effects. Samsung also provides steps to unlink Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.
