Usually, no. Don’t replace the USB cable that came with your Samsung phone just because it is included. Samsung’s guidance is model- and region-dependent: use a compatible included cable unless it is damaged or your particular phone-and-charger combination requires a different rating. Check your exact model before buying a replacement.
Is the cable that came with your Samsung phone suitable?
In most cases, keep using it if it is undamaged and charges your phone as expected. Samsung’s Korea support page says, in a translated statement, that the company has provided USB Type-C-to-USB Type-C cables with mobile phones released since 2022. For the group described on that page, the cable is rated up to 3A, supports up to 25W charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, and is 1 metre long. Samsung cautions that cable specifications can vary by country and release timing, so those figures do not establish the specification of every Galaxy cable.
Samsung UK says the correct cable is normally included and directs owners to model-specific guidance for replacements. Its statement that chargers and headphones are no longer included with new phones concerns those accessories, not a blanket claim that a supplied cable should be discarded. Samsung’s UK charger guidance was updated July 6, 2026.

What determines charging speed?
A cable cannot make a phone charge at a rate its hardware and charging setup do not support. The phone, wall adapter, charging protocol and cable all need to be compatible. Samsung’s US guidance distinguishes 15W, 25W and 45W–60W charging arrangements; the correct combination depends on the device. Its advice is: “For optimized charging performance and device safety, Samsung recommends using compatible Samsung chargers and charging cables designed for your Galaxy device.”

- USB-C to C Cable for up to 25W Charging Speeds

Samsung’s launch claims for the Galaxy S23 series illustrate why model-specific numbers matter. Under Samsung’s stated test conditions, the Galaxy S23 could reach up to 50% in around 30 minutes with a 25W adapter and 3A USB-C cable; the S23+ could reach up to 65% in around 30 minutes with a 45W adapter and 5A USB-C cable. These are Samsung claims for those models, not a general promise for other Galaxy phones.
Do you need a 5A cable for 45W charging?
Only if your specific phone-and-adapter setup calls for one. Samsung Korea says some 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0 arrangements require a 45W Power Delivery (PD) charger and a cable supporting up to 5A. But newer Korean guidance says Galaxy S25 and later models can support Super Fast Charging 2.0 with the included 3A cable. So neither “every 45W setup needs a 5A cable” nor “every Samsung phone needs one” is a safe general rule.

If you are considering a 5A USB-C-to-USB-C cable, first verify your exact Galaxy model and adapter requirements in Samsung’s model-specific guidance. A cable’s advertised wattage by itself does not prove compatibility with your phone’s charging mode. A 5A cable is an optional, model-dependent replacement—not evidence that an included cable is unsafe.
What to check before replacing a cable
- Exact phone model: Find the charging mode and cable guidance for your device rather than relying on a general Galaxy claim.
- Adapter: Confirm its wattage and required USB PD/PPS capabilities for the charging mode you want.
- Cable rating and condition: Check whether the cable specifies 3A or 5A when that matters, and replace a damaged cable.
- Connectors: Make sure both ends match your phone and adapter.
- Data needs: Samsung’s cited included cable supports USB 2.0 data transfer. USB-C connectors alone do not indicate faster data performance.
Samsung’s US support page covers Galaxy devices that are not fast charging. Samsung Korea provides guidance on super-fast charging for Galaxy smartphones and on cable specifications supplied with Galaxy products. Use the guidance for your model and market, since Samsung notes that specifications can vary.

If your Galaxy phone is charging slowly
Don’t assume the cable is the cause. Check the phone model, adapter rating and protocol, cable condition and rating, and the phone’s charging settings. Then confirm that the adapter and cable support the mode your device uses. If you replace the cable, choose one specified as compatible with the required charging setup and designed for Galaxy use, as Samsung recommends.
