The Galaxy S26 Ultra adds a larger display, a more versatile camera system, S Pen support and a built-in Privacy Display. The Galaxy S25+ is smaller, lighter and less expensive on Samsung’s March 2026 US MSRP sheet. At the same 256 GB capacity, that dated list showed a $300 difference; whether the Ultra is worth it depends on whether its extra features matter to you.

Which phone has the better camera setup?
Galaxy S25+: a simpler three-camera system
The S25+ has a 50 MP main camera, 12 MP ultrawide and one 10 MP telephoto camera with 3× optical zoom. It covers the usual wide, ultrawide and moderate-zoom viewpoints without the extra reach of a second telephoto lens.

Galaxy S26 Ultra: more telephoto flexibility
The S26 Ultra pairs a 200 MP main camera and 50 MP ultrawide with two telephoto cameras: a 10 MP 3× lens and a 50 MP 5× lens. Samsung lists 3× and 5× as optical zoom, 2× and 10× as optical-quality zoom, and up to 100× as digital zoom. Those labels describe different kinds of zoom; 100× digital zoom is not equivalent to a dedicated optical lens.

Choose the Ultra if you expect to use the 5× optical view or want more camera options. The listed specifications establish the hardware difference, but do not by themselves establish which phone takes better pictures in every scene.

What do the size and display differences mean in use?
The Ultra’s screen is 0.2 inches larger diagonally, and it is also wider, taller and thicker. Its listed weight is 24 g more than the S25+. That can suit readers who prioritize a larger viewing area, but the S25+ is the more compact and lighter phone on Samsung’s specifications.
Samsung lists the S26 Ultra’s display as adaptive from 1 to 120 Hz and gives a peak brightness figure of 2,600 nits. These are manufacturer specifications, not a direct independent comparison of display performance between the two models.

Do S Pen, Privacy Display or the newer processor justify the Ultra?
S Pen and Privacy Display
The S26 Ultra supports an S Pen and includes a built-in Privacy Display. These features can make the added cost more worthwhile if you regularly take notes or want to limit what people beside you can see on screen. Samsung’s S25+ specification sheet does not list S Pen support for that model.

The S26 Ultra uses the newer-named Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy platform, while the S25+ uses Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. Samsung reports CPU, NPU and GPU gains for the S26 Ultra against the S25 Ultra, not the S25+. Those figures are not a controlled S25+ versus S26 Ultra result. The cited specifications do not provide an independent head-to-head benchmark for this pair.
Best Value
- 6.8" Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to ~1750 nits brightness, HDR10+ support, and ultra-smooth responsiveness for gaming and scrolling.
Battery and software support: what the published figures establish
Samsung lists typical capacities of 4,900 mAh for the S25+ and 5,000 mAh for the S26 Ultra. That small capacity difference does not establish which phone lasts longer: the cited materials do not provide controlled real-world battery-life results comparing these two models.
Samsung’s S25 specification sheet states seven years of OS and security updates. For the S26 series, Samsung states seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from the global launch. These durations do not establish exact support end dates, so they should not be converted into a specific final update date.
Quick Recap
Which one should you buy?
- Choose the Galaxy S25+ if a lighter, more compact phone and a lower comparable-storage price matter more than the Ultra’s extra camera reach and features.
- Choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra if you will use its 5× optical telephoto camera, larger display, S Pen support or Privacy Display enough to justify the higher price.
- Check the live price before deciding. The March 2026 figures are US MSRP references; they do not show current retailer offers, trade-in value or stock.
- Do not decide from battery capacity or processor names alone. The cited specifications do not establish a real-world battery winner or direct performance result for this pair.
