The Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless is a strong premium headphone option if you value detailed sound, adaptive noise cancellation and a battery Sennheiser says can last up to 57 hours with ANC on. The main caveats are comfort that may vary with ear shape, no water or sweat protection, and a user-replaceable battery for which Sennheiser’s reviewed support pages do not identify a specific replacement part.
What is the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless?
Announced in May 2026, the MOMENTUM 5 is Sennheiser’s over-ear Bluetooth headphone with a 42 mm dynamic driver, hybrid adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC), Transparency Mode and Dolby Atmos spatial audio with head tracking. It supports Bluetooth multipoint for two devices and Sennheiser Smart Control Plus on iOS and Android. Sennheiser’s product information and support materials provide the manufacturer’s feature and compatibility details.
The listed weight is approximately 290 g, and the headphones fold flat for storage. Sennheiser says the driver was developed in-house and inspired by its HD 600 series; that is the company’s description, not an independent finding about sound quality.

Independent listening impressions are favorable on detail and refinement. What Hi-Fi?, in its 25 May 2026 review, called the sound “rich, smooth yet strikingly precise and detailed,” and gave sound and features five points in its score breakdown, with build receiving four. Sennheiser lists SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless codec support. Whether you can use a particular codec depends on the transmitting phone, computer or audio player as well as the headphones. Sennheiser says its separately sold BTD 700 adapter can provide aptX support with sources that lack native support; it is an option for compatible setups, not a requirement for every buyer. Wired listening is also available over USB-C or with the supplied 2.5 mm-to-3.5 mm cable. For analog listening, the headphones must be powered on.
How effective is the ANC, and what can you adjust?
The MOMENTUM 5 uses hybrid adaptive ANC and has eight microphones, according to Sennheiser. It also offers Transparency Mode, which lets outside sound through, and clear-call features. These specifications describe the system; they do not establish how much noise it will block in every environment. Fit, the sound around you and personal preference affect the experience.

Will the MOMENTUM 5 be comfortable for long sessions?
Reviewers disagree, which makes fit an important personal consideration. TechRadar’s reviewer liked the soft padded faux-leather ear cups and cushioned headband, but reported cartilage discomfort during extended listening, attributing it to ridges inside the earcups. Android Central’s reviewer found long-session comfort favorable but noted that the ears became warm. Neither account establishes how the headphones will feel on every head or ear shape.
If possible, try the fit before committing, especially if you are sensitive to pressure around the ears or tend to wear headphones for hours at a time. A comfortable headband does not guarantee that the earcups will suit your ears.
How long does the MOMENTUM 5 battery last?
Sennheiser claims up to 57 hours of Bluetooth playback with ANC enabled and up to seven hours of playback after a ten-minute charge. These are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements; actual runtime can vary with settings, listening level, wireless use and other conditions. Can you replace the battery, and is it waterproof?
Sennheiser says the battery can be replaced by the user with a Phillips-head screwdriver and a new battery. Its reviewed support information does not establish a compatible part number or current replacement-battery availability, so confirm the exact part with Sennheiser before buying one.
The MOMENTUM 5 is not IP rated and is not intended for water exposure or excessive sweat, according to Sennheiser. That makes it a poor choice for rainy use, running or workouts where substantial sweat is likely. It should not be described as waterproof or sweatproof. Check Sennheiser’s support guidance.

What is the difference between MOMENTUM 4 and MOMENTUM 5?
The clearest documented comparison in the available product information is the stated maximum ANC-on Bluetooth runtime: up to 60 hours for MOMENTUM 4 and up to 57 hours for MOMENTUM 5, according to Sennheiser. The MOMENTUM 5’s listed features include Bluetooth 5.4, adaptive ANC, Dolby Atmos spatial audio with head tracking and user-replaceable battery. The sources cited here do not provide a controlled, side-by-side test that establishes which model sounds better, cancels more noise or fits more comfortably.
How does MOMENTUM 5 compare with Sony WH-1000XM6?
There is no cited controlled comparison that supports declaring one the overall winner. What Hi-Fi? suggests readers willing to spend more consider the Sony WH-1000XM6 or Sennheiser HDB 630, but that recommendation reflects its review judgment rather than a standardized comparison. Choose based on the features and fit that matter to you, and compare current local prices before deciding.

It is worth considering if you want a feature-rich over-ear headphone with detailed sound praised by reviewers, adaptive ANC, multipoint, spatial audio and a battery Sennheiser claims can provide long playback between charges. The user-replaceable battery is a welcome ownership feature, though its practical value depends on obtaining a confirmed compatible part.
Look elsewhere if you need water or sweat resistance, require a fit you already know will work for long sessions, or want independently established comparative ANC and battery results. Comfort reports vary, so fit may matter more than any single feature list.
