The Samsung Galaxy A57 5G is a polished midrange phone with a camera system that is less dependable than its other strengths. Its main camera can take appealing photos in good light, but reviewer tests point to uneven color and detail, a weaker ultrawide in dim conditions, and a basic macro camera. If camera consistency matters more than display quality or long software support, compare alternatives before buying.
What the Galaxy A57’s cameras are like in practice
The A57 has a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12MP ultrawide, and a 5MP macro. Those figures describe hardware, not image quality. Reviewers’ hands-on findings differ in emphasis, but collectively suggest a system that is strongest on the main camera in favorable conditions and less consistent across lenses and lighting.
Main camera: capable in good light, inconsistent according to reviewers
Android Authority found that the main camera can produce detailed, punchy images in bright scenes and usable results in low light. TechRadar was more critical, reporting muted color and limited color detail outside bright sunshine or studio lighting, with foliage appearing desaturated and dynamic range lacking. Tom’s Guide described the system as respectable for the price, while noting that it does not compete with leading camera phones. These are reviewers’ judgments, not a universal test result.
Ultrawide and macro: the clearest compromises
Android Authority found that the ultrawide becomes soft and noisy in poorer light, and that video from it is weaker than from the main camera. The reviewer also noted lag when switching lenses. The 5MP macro camera lacks autofocus, limiting its flexibility for close-up shots. These secondary cameras make the A57 feel less consistent than a phone whose lenses deliver more similar results.

Zoom: no dedicated telephoto camera
The listed rear cameras comprise a main, ultrawide, and macro lens; Samsung does not list a dedicated optical telephoto lens. In Tom’s Guide’s comparison with the Nothing Phone 4a Pro, the rival’s telephoto lens produced better zoomed-in shots. That is one publication’s comparison, but it illustrates why buyers who regularly photograph distant subjects should check for optical telephoto hardware rather than assume a high-resolution main sensor is a substitute.
Who should buy the Galaxy A57 5G?
It may suit you if
- You mainly take everyday photos with the main camera, especially in good light.
- You value a large display and extended software support alongside a capable general-purpose phone.
- You rarely rely on an ultrawide camera in dim settings, macro shots, or zoomed-in photography.
Consider another phone if
- You want consistently vibrant, detailed photos in ordinary indoor and outdoor lighting. TechRadar’s review raises concerns about color and detail in conditions short of bright or studio light.
- You use the ultrawide often at night or indoors, where Android Authority found softness and noise.
- You need optical telephoto zoom. Compare the actual lens hardware and current local prices; prices and availability vary by market and can change.
Android Authority names the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE and Google Pixel 10a as alternatives, while Tom’s Guide’s camera comparison includes the Nothing Phone 4a Pro. These are starting points for comparison, not a guarantee that any one option is better for every buyer or current budget. Check recent camera samples and prices in your region.

Water resistance has defined limits
Samsung UK states an IP68 rating based on submersion in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Samsung cautions that water resistance may diminish over time and does not recommend using the phone at the beach or pool. The rating should not be treated as a promise of protection in every water exposure.

How to make the buying decision
- Decide which camera you use most. If you mostly use the main camera outdoors in good light, the A57’s strongest reported results may be sufficient. If you depend on multiple lenses, weigh the ultrawide and macro limitations more heavily.
- Check your real-world camera priorities. Look for recent examples in the lighting you encounter, and pay particular attention to indoor scenes, ultrawide shots, and zoom. Reviewers’ conclusions vary, so one broad label such as “good” or “poor” does not describe every lens equally well.
- Compare the price where you live. The sourced $549.99 figure is Samsung’s U.S. starting launch price. Do not use it as a current price for another market; compare current local offers and configurations.
- Balance cameras against the rest of the phone. Consider the 6.7-inch display and Samsung’s stated software-support period alongside your camera needs. The A57 makes more sense when those strengths matter enough to offset the uneven camera system.
