The Russell Hobbs Advanced Glide RHC280 is a 2400 W steam iron with a 330 ml tank, 50 g continuous steam and a 155 g steam burst, according to the manufacturer’s Australian listing. Its feature set includes a ceramic soleplate, anti-drip and anti-scale functions, self-cleaning and three-way auto shut-off. Those specifications make it straightforward to assess on paper; they do not establish how well it removes creases in practice. If you are considering one, weigh the published features and upkeep against your local price rather than treating the model’s performance as independently verified.
What does the RHC280 offer?
Russell Hobbs lists the Advanced Glide Iron as model RHC280. The Australian product page gives these specifications and features:
- Power: 2400 W.
- Steam: 50 g continuous steam and a 155 g steam burst.
- Water tank: 330 ml.
- Soleplate: ceramic, non-stick soleplate.
- Other features: variable temperature and steam, vertical steam, spray, anti-drip, anti-scale, self-cleaning, and three-way auto shut-off.
- Handling details: three-metre cord, soft-touch grip and a red power light.
Russell Hobbs describes the soleplate as “2x more durable” than its standard ceramic soleplate. That is the manufacturer’s comparison, not an independently verified durability result. The Australian page also displays an RRP of A$59.95 and a claim that Russell Hobbs Irons received Canstar Blue’s Most Satisfied Customers award in 2025. Both are manufacturer-page information tied to the Australian market; the award claim is not a test result for this specific iron. Check local pricing and availability before buying. Is there independent performance evidence?
Specifications describe the iron’s stated power and steam output, not how quickly or effectively it removes wrinkles, how smoothly it glides, or how it handles different fabrics. Consumer NZ includes the RHC280 in its irons and steam stations coverage, with the section marked updated March 2025. Without visible independent results or hands-on testing, the practical verdict is conditional: the published feature set may suit someone seeking a steam iron with a relatively large stated tank, multiple steam options and automatic shut-off, but the available evidence does not establish its crease-removal performance, heating speed, comfort, reliability or real-world durability.

How to choose settings and use steam

- Steam is available at or above the manual’s steam threshold. Leave four seconds between steam bursts.
- The spray may spot some fabrics, so test it on a hidden area first.
- For vertical steam on hanging garments, curtains or furnishing fabrics, take care with ventilation and nearby surfaces, and check that pockets and cuffs are empty.
What water and maintenance does it need?
The manual permits tap water in general. In hard-water areas, it advises using distilled water suitable for irons—not chemically descaled or softened water. Fill slowly and stop at the maximum mark.

Use the self-clean function at least monthly in normal water areas and more often where water is hard. The manual specifically warns against descaling solution because it can destroy the incorporated anti-scale agent. After ironing, empty the tank, let the iron cool and store it upright on its heel.
How does the auto shut-off work?
According to the 2022 manual, the iron switches off after about 30 seconds if motionless with the soleplate down, or about eight minutes if left upright. To restart it, lift the iron, tilt it forward, then stand it upright again so it can return to operating temperature. These are the manual’s stated timings, not independent measurements.

Safety, warranty and buying considerations
The manual says to unplug the iron when filling or emptying it, stay with it while it is plugged in, and arrange repairs through the manufacturer or a suitably qualified person. It states there are no user-serviceable parts. Its warranty section describes a two-year period for qualifying workmanship or material defects in Australia and New Zealand through the respective Spectrum Brands entities. Check the terms that apply where you purchase the iron.
