The Nothing Phone (4b) is a sensible lower-cost Android phone if you value long battery life, a distinctive design and a clean interface more than camera flexibility or a top-tier display. Its main camera handles daylight well, but there is no telephoto lens; the screen’s measured brightness also fell short of its advertised peak in Notebookcheck’s test. Whether it is good value depends on your local price and how it compares with the Phone (4a) where you live.
What is the Nothing Phone (4b)?
Nothing positions the Phone (4b) as an affordable entry into its smartphone range. BGR describes it as an option with fewer features, rather than a direct replacement for the Phone (4a). That distinction matters: the 4b is not simply a cheaper version with the same capabilities. Its lower-cost appeal comes with compromises, especially for zoom photography and display performance.
Specifications and availability vary by market. Notebookcheck reviewed a German configuration with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, a 5,200 mAh battery and no microSD expansion. BGR reported a 6,000 mAh battery for the India model. Tech Advisor says the UK version it reviewed had 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, while 256 GB was exclusive to India. Check the exact configuration sold locally rather than assuming one region’s specifications apply everywhere.

A distinctive but restrained design
The Phone (4b) has a vertical Glyph Bar made from discrete LEDs. It can signal notifications, timers and charging status, but its usefulness depends on whether you configure and use those alerts. BGR describes the design as more subdued than earlier Nothing phones; Tech Advisor highlights its distinctive appearance and Glyph notifications. Expect a more restrained take on Nothing’s visual identity, not the most elaborate version of it.

Bright enough for many settings, but not its strongest point
The 6.77-inch AMOLED display supports a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Notebookcheck measured a peak brightness of 1,148 cd/m² in its test and found that the screen did not reach the advertised 2,000-nit peak. BGR also found it difficult to read in direct sunlight. Those results make outdoor visibility a point to weigh, particularly if you often use your phone under strong sun.
IP64 is not a waterproof rating
The phone is rated IP64. BGR describes that as dust-tight protection and protection against splashes; Notebookcheck likewise warns against treating the handset as waterproof. Do not submerge it or rely on the rating as a promise of protection from immersion.
Is performance good enough for everyday use?
The German configuration Notebookcheck lists uses a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor, Adreno 810 graphics and 8 GB of RAM. BGR found everyday tasks—including messaging, browsing, streaming and switching apps—generally smooth. In graphically demanding games, however, BGR observed frame drops and reduced visual quality. The phone is a better fit for routine use than for sustained, demanding gaming.

Battery capacity depends on region: BGR reports 5,200 mAh outside India and 6,000 mAh in India. Tech Advisor recorded more than 17 hours in its PCMark for Android test and said the phone lasted a day of solid use in its experience. BGR also reported a full day in its own use. The test result is not a guarantee of runtime: your usage, settings and regional model affect how long a charge lasts.

The European and UK reviews list 33 W wired charging. In Tech Advisor’s test, charging from empty reached 42% after 30 minutes. The phone does not support wireless charging, according to BGR. Tech Advisor says its reviewed handset did not include a power adapter; check the box contents for your market before buying.
Are the cameras a good fit for you?
The rear camera system consists of a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilisation and an 8 MP ultrawide; the front camera is 16 MP, according to BGR and Notebookcheck. There is no telephoto camera. BGR found the main camera adequate in daylight, with weaker low-light and digital-zoom results. Tech Advisor also praised the main camera while criticising the ultrawide. BGR reports that video recording goes up to 4K at 30 frames per second.
This is a usable camera setup if you mainly want straightforward daylight photos. It is less flexible if you regularly take distant subjects, want optical zoom, or rely on the ultrawide. BGR identifies a 50 MP periscope camera with 3.5× optical zoom on the Phone (4a), making that model the more relevant in-family option to examine if zoom matters more to you than the 4b’s entry-level positioning.

BGR reports that the reviewed phone runs Nothing OS 4.1 on Android 16, with a relatively clean interface and optional Essential AI tools. BGR and Tech Advisor report a commitment of three major Android version updates and six years of security updates. Tech Advisor considers the OS-update period shorter than some competitors’ support. Treat these as the commitment reported by those publications in 2026, not a guarantee about a particular update’s delivery date.

What does the Phone (4b) cost, and where is it available?
Review prices are dated reference points, not current offers: Notebookcheck and BGR reported €329 in Europe, while Tech Advisor reviewed the UK handset at £299. BGR’s August 21, 2026 review said the phone was then an Indian and European-market product and was not available in the United States. Availability can change, so check local stock and live pricing before deciding; those review snapshots do not establish current availability or price.
The value comparison with the Phone (4a) is not straightforward. BGR characterises the 4a as the more versatile, more expensive in-family option, while Notebookcheck noted that a 4a with the same storage was cheaper at some German retailers during its test. Compare the models’ actual local street prices rather than assuming the 4b is always cheaper.

- Camera flexibility: The 4b has main and ultrawide cameras but no telephoto. BGR reports a 3.5× optical-zoom periscope camera on the 4a.
- Display: Consider outdoor readability and resolution alongside refresh rate; Notebookcheck’s measured 4b peak brightness was 1,148 cd/m².
- Storage: Verify the capacity offered locally and whether microSD expansion is available. Notebookcheck’s German 128 GB model did not support microSD.
- Battery: Check the market-specific capacity; BGR reports 5,200 mAh outside India and 6,000 mAh in India for the 4b.
- Support: Compare the update commitments reported for each model and consider how long you expect to keep the phone.
For buyers in the United States, the sources reviewed here reported no U.S. launch as of their 2026 publication dates. They do not establish current U.S. availability; verify local retail listings before treating the Phone (4b) as an option.
Who should buy the Nothing Phone (4b)?
Consider it if you want a distinctive Android phone with clean software, strong battery-test results and a capable main camera for everyday daylight photos, and if the local price makes sense beside the Phone (4a). Look elsewhere in the range if optical zoom, better outdoor visibility or more camera versatility is important to you. For demanding games, BGR’s reported frame drops and visual compromises are a reason to be cautious.
