Choose by station setup, mop approach, and floor-plan fit—not by an unverified claim that one cleans better. LG’s RONi is a family of models with different dock configurations; Roborock’s S9 MaxV Ultra has a documented retractable lidar system and published robot and dock dimensions. The available manufacturer specifications do not establish an overall performance winner.
What is the key difference between the two?
LG HOM-BOT RONi is a product family, not one fixed robot-and-dock package. LG’s Korean buying guide describes vacuuming and mopping, automatic dust emptying, water supply while mopping, and mop washing and drying, with features depending on the model. Its lineup guide names N95THO, N95TWU, and N95THU as representative models. LG’s buying guide distinguishes a freestanding Objet Station with clean- and wastewater tanks from hidden-station variants connected to water supply and drainage.
Roborock’s South Korean product page describes the S9 MaxV Ultra with retractable lidar, multiple obstacle-sensing components, and adaptive handling for carpets and liquid messes. It also identifies a RockDock Ultra 2.0. These are manufacturer descriptions, not results from a controlled comparison with RONi.

LG RONi: check the station variant
LG describes 100°C steam mop cleaning and automated mop maintenance for RONi, but the exact feature set depends on the model and station. A freestanding tank-based dock avoids a direct plumbing connection; a hidden station is described as connecting to water supply and drainage. Confirm the requirements for the exact suffix before purchase. LG also recommends RONi for homes dealing with pet hair and kitchen-floor soil; that is a manufacturer use-case suggestion, not an independent performance finding.

Roborock S9 MaxV Ultra: adaptive mopping claims
Roborock names VibraRise 4.0 and describes adapting to carpets and liquid messes, including keeping dry-cleaning components dry and avoiding wetting carpets. The page does not provide a head-to-head test against LG’s steam-mopping approach, so these descriptions do not show which system mops more effectively or requires less upkeep in practice.
Which one fits your home and dock location?
Measure the robot’s route and the complete dock location, then check those measurements against the exact regional product. LG’s lineup material lists RONi at 360 × 360 × 103 mm. Roborock publishes these dimensions for the S9 MaxV Ultra and its dock:

The robot’s clearance height changes with lidar position, so check both the furniture clearance and the dock’s footprint and surrounding access. Roborock’s figures come from its South Korean product page; verify them against the exact local robot and dock version. LG’s cited dimensions and model information likewise come from Korean-market materials.
What do the navigation specifications tell you?
LG’s lineup guide lists lidar, a camera, and 3D sensors for RONi variants. Roborock describes retractable lidar, Reactive AI 3.0 obstacle recognition, front structured-light sensors, an RGB camera, and side obstacle sensing. These are documented sensing features, but specifications alone do not establish which robot navigates better in a particular home. The available pages do not report controlled comparative results for obstacle handling, pickup, or mopping.

Which should you buy?
- Consider RONi if its documented steam-mop and automated mop-maintenance features suit your priorities and you can confirm whether the model you are considering uses a tank-based or plumbing-connected station.
- Consider the S9 MaxV Ultra if its retractable lidar, described obstacle-sensing system, adaptive carpet handling, and published dimensions suit your layout and needs.
- Pause before choosing either if the exact local model, dock requirements, warranty, or service coverage is unclear. Resolve those details with the manufacturer or retailer before ordering.
