The report behind “one of the best compact tablets just got even better” is about a possible next-generation iPad mini—not an Apple announcement. A December 18, 2025 report said a successor might get an OLED display and could use an A20 Pro chip, but both details were rumors. If you need a compact tablet now, make the decision using the current iPad mini’s confirmed specifications, local price, and availability; wait only if you can live without a tablet while Apple’s plans remain unconfirmed.
What is actually known about the next iPad mini?
Tom’s Guide reported on December 18, 2025 that a rumored iPad mini 8 might include an OLED display. It also reported a possible A20 Pro chip, attributing that detail to leaked internal code reportedly shared by tipster Kang on Weibo. Neither specification was confirmed by Apple in that report. The same article identified the iPad mini 7 as the current model in its discussion. Its suggested successor timing was speculation at the time, not a confirmed release window, and it should not be treated as a current forecast. The information available here does not establish whether Apple has since announced a successor.

Wait if the rumored changes matter to you
