There is no universally best choice. Buy now when the exact model and configuration are at a verified, attractive price, the seller and checkout terms work for you, and you need the item before late November. Wait for Black Friday when your purchase is flexible, you are prepared to compare several equivalent models, and the possible benefit of more competition outweighs the risk that today’s offer disappears.
Black Friday is not a guarantee of the year’s lowest price. The most useful test is the product’s own recent price history—not a crossed-out reference price or a “Black Friday deal” badge.
The quick decision: buy now or wait?
Use these conditions before deciding:
| Your situation | Better move | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You need the device before November 27, 2026, or a current offer is already unusually low against its recent history. | Buy now | Waiting could leave you without the product or replace a known good price with an uncertain one. |
| You can wait, have several equivalent models in mind, and want to see more competing offers. | Wait and monitor | Some categories receive broader competition and additional discounts during the event period. |
| The product is a specific, scarce configuration, such as an exact storage size, colour or TV screen size. | Buy when the price is acceptable and stock is reliable | Waiting may reduce your choice even if another configuration is discounted. |
| You have not checked the seller, delivery charges, returns or the exact model number. | Do not purchase yet | The headline price may not be the final cost or an equivalent product. |
Black Friday 2026 falls on November 27 in the United States, according to Best Buy’s event page. Retailers also run technology promotions throughout the year; Best Buy makes that point in its own marketing, although a retailer’s statement is not independent evidence that a particular deal is good.
What the strongest price evidence shows
Most tracked products were cheaper or equal outside the event window
Which? tracked 175 home, technology and health appliances at eight major UK retailers from May 2024 through May 2025. It defined the 2024 Black Friday period as November 15 to December 12. In that sample, 83% of products were cheaper or the same price on at least one occasion outside those four weeks. Which? also reported that none of the analyzed products reached its annual low on Black Friday itself.
#1 Best Overall
This is a warning against assuming that the event date is automatically the cheapest point. It is historical UK evidence, not a promise about every product, every country or Black Friday 2026. Prices can follow different patterns by category, retailer, model age and stock level.
A sale label is not proof of an unusually low price
A crossed-out “was” price may be a reference price rather than the product’s normal recent selling price. A retailer can also promote an older model, a smaller storage option or a different screen size next to a newer product. Compare the exact item’s model number and configuration with its own history before treating the discount as meaningful.
Which? Retail Editor Reena Sewraz summarized the practical approach: “Our advice is simple: take your time, don’t be fooled by clever marketing and do your research.” That means checking the number on the device listing, not relying on the event name.

Run this check before buying now or adding an item to a Black Friday watch list.
- Record the complete configuration. Write down the manufacturer model number, generation or model year, screen size, storage capacity, memory, colour and included accessories. For a television, note the panel type and exact diagonal measurement. A promotion on a different or older version is not an equivalent comparison.
- Check recent price history. Amazon says its shopping pages can show 30-day, 90-day or 365-day lows, and its price-history tool can display up to 365 days of data. Use the longest available period for a seasonal purchase and look for the exact model, not a family of similar products. Amazon says more than 50 million customers have used the tool; that is an Amazon-published company claim, not independent proof that every displayed comparison is complete.
- Compare the final checkout total. Add delivery, mandatory fees, taxes or regional charges that apply to your address. A lower advertised price can be less attractive once those costs are included. Save a screenshot or note of the final total and date if you may compare it later.
- Verify the seller and stock status. Check whether the listing is sold directly by the retailer or by a marketplace seller, and whether the stated delivery date meets your need. A lower price that is back-ordered or supplied by an unfamiliar seller may not be a practical saving.
- Read current return and price-adjustment terms. Policies differ by retailer and country and can change during promotional events. Confirm the return window, who pays return shipping, exclusions for opened electronics and whether a later price adjustment is available. Do not assume that a Black Friday promotion receives the same treatment as a standard sale.
- Set a personal threshold. Decide in advance what price would make you comfortable buying. If today’s price is already below the product’s typical recent range and you need it soon, the value of certainty may exceed the uncertain benefit of waiting.
When waiting has a sensible advantage
You are flexible about the model
Waiting is most defensible when you can accept two or more equivalent products. If one model does not fall in price, another may become the better value. This flexibility is different from hoping that one named product must get cheaper; no source establishes a dependable way to predict that outcome.
You value a wider choice of competing offers
Retailers often coordinate their largest promotional campaigns around late November, which can make comparison easier. However, more advertisements do not automatically mean lower prices. Keep the model-number and price-history checks in place while offers multiply.
You can absorb stock and delivery uncertainty
Waiting may mean shorter stock, delayed delivery or a replacement configuration. If the item is needed for travel, school, work or a gift, assign a deadline earlier than the event itself. Once that deadline passes, buy the best verified option rather than continuing to wait for a theoretical low.

When buying now is the rational choice
The current price is already a documented low or near-low
If the exact configuration is at or close to its 90-day or 365-day low and the seller terms are acceptable, Black Friday may add little value. The Which? findings show why a known attractive price should not be dismissed merely because a larger sale is approaching.

The product is being replaced
Manufacturers and retailers can clear an outgoing generation before a newer model receives attention. A later event might discount the replacement rather than the version you actually want. Check model year and specifications before interpreting a price cut as a sign that an even lower price is imminent.
You need the item before late November
The benefit of using the device for several weeks can outweigh a possible but unguaranteed saving. Include setup time, data transfer, returns and any learning curve in your deadline rather than treating delivery day as the only requirement.
Televisions: why the advice can lean toward waiting
For UK TV shoppers, a current guide by What Hi-Fi?, published October 6, 2026, takes a somewhat more wait-friendly view. It says Black Friday tends to bring wider retailer competition and can discount newer releases. That is editorial category advice, not a statistical forecast, and the article also cautions that a strong current TV offer may not become cheaper.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Apply that advice carefully:
- Compare the same screen size, panel technology, model year and product tier. An OLED, mini-LED and entry-level LCD are not interchangeable just because all are listed as 55-inch TVs.
- Check whether the advertised model is a current release or an older clearance model. A lower price can reflect reduced features, not merely a temporary promotion.
- Consider several retailers, including specialist television sellers and large electronics chains, while verifying each seller’s delivery and return terms.
- Do not treat an example offer mentioned in an October article as a live price. Availability and pricing can change, so recheck the exact listing in your country before relying on it.
If you have a flexible screen-size and model shortlist, waiting can expose more alternatives. If you have found the exact TV you want at a price that its history supports and stock is limited, buying now remains reasonable.

Geography matters
The 83% figure comes from UK retailers and UK price tracking. It should not be presented as a universal pattern for the United States, Canada, Australia or another market. The November 27, 2026 date cited above comes from a US Best Buy event page; local retailers may use different promotional calendars or extend deals across several days.
Amazon’s price-history and alert features are described by Amazon, but the available tools, displayed history and retailer policies may differ by country. Change the shopping region before comparing prices, and make sure taxes, delivery and warranty coverage apply to your address.

Comparing a headline percentage instead of a real product
Problem: “40% off” is calculated from a reference price or a different configuration.
Fix: Match the complete model number and compare the current checkout total with dated history.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Assuming Black Friday must beat every earlier price
Problem: You postpone a good offer solely because the calendar says a bigger sale is coming.
Fix: Use a personal threshold and a need date. The historical Which? sample found many products cheaper or equal outside the event period.

Ignoring seller and fulfilment differences
Problem: The lowest listing is marketplace-supplied, back-ordered or subject to different returns.
Fix: Verify seller identity, stock, delivery date, warranty and current return terms before comparing totals.
Treating an alert as a guarantee
Problem: A price alert tells you that a threshold was reached, not that the item is a good value or that it will remain available.
Fix: Recheck configuration, final cost and terms when the alert arrives.
Using a retailer’s promotional statistics as independent proof
Problem: Amazon reports that more than 80% of deals during its most recent Prime Day were at Amazon’s lowest price of the year so far, but that is a self-reported Prime Day claim and says nothing definitive about Black Friday results.
Fix: Treat company claims as marketing context and rely on the individual product’s history for your decision.
Three practical buying plans
Plan A: Buy now with protection
- Capture the exact model number and the final delivered price.
- Check at least 90 days of history, or 365 days when available.
- Confirm stock, seller, warranty and return terms.
- Buy only if the price meets your threshold and the item is needed before Black Friday.
Plan B: Wait with a deadline
- Choose two or three equivalent models and acceptable configurations.
- Set a target price for each and record today’s prices.
- Set a personal purchase deadline before November 27, 2026 if delivery or setup takes time.
- During the event, compare final totals and terms, then buy the best verified option rather than chasing every new badge.
Plan C: Split the decision by category
Use different rules for different products. A flexible TV shortlist may justify waiting because What Hi-Fi? expects broader competition. A scarce laptop configuration, replacement accessory or urgently needed work device may justify buying at a documented good price. There is no requirement to apply one calendar strategy to every item in your basket.
A final checklist
- Exact model number and configuration recorded
- Recent price history checked
- Final checkout total calculated for your location
- Seller, stock and delivery date verified
- Return, warranty and price-adjustment policies read
- Need date and waiting deadline defined
- At least one equivalent alternative considered when waiting
The soundest answer to “now or Black Friday?” is conditional: buy a verified bargain when certainty and timing matter; wait when flexibility gives you a meaningful chance to compare more equivalent offers. Black Friday can be useful, but the date itself is not evidence that the price is the lowest available.
