No: Shopify no longer supports selling vapes through its storefront platform. In a June 24, 2026 notice, Shopify said it no longer supported sales of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). Reuters reported that merchants were told to remove e-cigarette products by July 8, 2026, or risk product suspension or store termination. That deadline has passed. Switching to another payment processor does not restore permission to list or sell vapes on Shopify.
What Shopify’s vape ban means in 2026
Shopify’s notice concerned sales through Shopify stores, not only access to Shopify Payments. Reuters reported that the removal instruction covered all vape products and that a California Attorney General spokesperson said the decision applied globally. Hawaiʻi’s Attorney General separately described the decision as covering “all vaping products, including e-cigarettes.” Read the Reuters report on Shopify’s notice and deadline and the Hawaiʻi Attorney General’s June 24 release.
The notice used the term ENDS, short for electronic nicotine delivery systems. The FDA uses ENDS for products such as vapes, vaporizers, vape pens, hookah pens, e-cigarettes, e-cigars and e-pipes. Its regulatory scope includes manufacture, import, packaging, labeling, advertising, promotion, sale and distribution of ENDS, including components and parts but excluding accessories. The FDA also warns that e-cigarettes are not risk-free and that nicotine is highly addictive. See the FDA overview of ENDS.
Shopify’s reported instruction referred broadly to vape products, but the available notice reporting does not spell out the treatment of every individual part or accessory. Do not assume an item is permitted simply because it does not contain nicotine; confirm its status with Shopify before listing it.

The UK government’s smoking and vaping guidance describes the UK measures. Check the current rules for the specific UK territory and product before acting; these dates do not describe US or other countries’ law.
Shopify’s storefront, payments and sales channels are separate
Shopify has several overlapping rule sets. Compliance with one does not establish eligibility under another, and a payment provider’s approval cannot override a storefront restriction.

Check Shopify’s current Shopify Payments eligibility rules, Shop channel prohibited-products policy, Managed Markets restrictions, Acceptable Use Policy and compliance guidance. The policy pages describe distinct services and can change.
Can you keep Shopify and use another payment processor?
Not to continue selling vape products through a Shopify storefront. Shopify’s June notice was a platform sales restriction, while Shopify Payments has its own eligibility rules. Replacing Shopify Payments addresses neither the storefront restriction nor the possibility that the alternate processor will decline the business.

Shopify generally directs businesses not eligible for Shopify Payments to review supported third-party gateways. That general guidance is not an endorsement or confirmation of ENDS acceptance. A processor underwrites the merchant independently and may assess the exact products, nicotine content, sales territories and business model.
US sellers: legal and operational checks still apply elsewhere
Leaving Shopify would not remove a seller’s obligations under US federal, state and local rules. Shopify’s ENDS guidance identifies the following PACT Act and related compliance issues for US vape sellers. Treat them as issues to validate for the products and locations involved, not as a complete legal opinion:

- Age verification using a commercially available database.
- Registration with tobacco tax administrators in jurisdictions where vaping products are taxed, and registration with the US Attorney General.
- Private shipping with an adult signature at delivery; USPS shipment is not allowed under the described requirements.
- Five-year retention of records for specified interrupted deliveries.
- Applicable state and local requirements in the places where products are advertised or sold.
Shopify’s ENDS compliance discussion also covers associated juice, parts, kits and accessories in its US compliance context. The Shopify ENDS guidance is a starting point, not a substitute for checking current requirements with the relevant authorities or qualified counsel.

Hawaiʻi’s Attorney General stated on June 24, 2026, that the FDA had authorized 45 specific e-cigarette products as of that release, and that each new tobacco product, including an e-cigarette, must receive an FDA order authorizing its marketing and sale in the United States. Where can a vape store move?
No specific alternative host or payment processor is established here as currently accepting ENDS sellers. Avoid choosing a provider based on a generic claim that it supports “high-risk” businesses: the host, sales channel and processor may each apply different product and territory rules, and legal permission is a separate question.
Before migrating, get answers to these questions for the exact catalog and operating locations:
- Host approval: Does the commerce host explicitly allow the products, including nicotine-containing items, parts and accessories, and the jurisdictions you serve?
- Payment approval: Has the processor approved your specific business, products and territories in writing? Confirm its rules for chargebacks, reserves, settlement and account termination.
- Compliance operations: Can the setup support required age checks, shipping restrictions, adult-signature delivery, registrations, taxes, labeling and record keeping?
- Channel and cross-border rules: Do marketplaces, advertising channels or international fulfillment services impose restrictions beyond those of the host and processor?
- Migration continuity: Can you transfer permitted customer and order records, preserve necessary records, and plan for downtime without importing prohibited listings?
Get current written confirmation before moving inventory or opening a new store. A platform that can technically display a catalog may still prohibit it under its terms, and processor approval does not by itself settle whether a product may legally be sold or shipped.

Shopify said its decision followed changes in legal restrictions on ENDS sales. Hawaiʻi Tobacco Enforcement Unit Supervisor Chelsea Okamoto described the removal of e-cigarette sales as helping prevent unlawful sales and reduce youth access to addictive nicotine products. That is her stated view of the policy’s public-health effect; it does not replace the specific legal requirements that apply to an individual seller.
The practical decision is therefore not simply which gateway to plug into a store. Merchants need a host that permits the catalog, a processor that has underwritten the exact business, and compliance arrangements that fit the products and destinations. For Shopify stores, the reported removal deadline has already passed.
