The Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 is a sports headset for people who want to listen without sealing off their ears. Its open fit and manufacturer-described DualPitch audio system may suit runners and cyclists who value awareness and a secure-feeling design, but it does not provide ear-canal isolation—and sound quality is not a clear win across independent reviews. Consider it if open-ear listening is your priority; look elsewhere if you want immersive, isolated sound or need to keep listening private in a quiet shared space.

What the OpenRun Pro 2 is—and how its audio works

The OpenRun Pro 2 sits outside the ear canal rather than using earbuds that seal inside it. Shokz describes its DualPitch system as combining bone conduction for mids and highs with a separate air-conduction driver for bass. That is the manufacturer’s description of the design, not a guarantee that every listener will prefer its sound.

The official product page lists four preset EQ modes and two customizable modes. You can adjust the sound profile, but EQ cannot turn an open-ear headset into a noise-isolating one. Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 product page

How it performs for comfort, movement, and sound

Fit and comfort

RTINGS describes the headset as comfortable and stable in its testing. The Independent also reports that its sample stayed in place during a movement test. These are reviewers’ observations, not a guarantee that the fit will work for every head or activity. Shokz lists standard and mini sizes, so check the size options and return terms on the regional listing before buying.

Sound quality and calls

Reviews differ on the listening experience. The Independent’s reviewer was disappointed with sound quality, while Shokz’s DualPitch design aims to give bass its own air-conduction driver. SoundGuys tested the headset for one week with app version 4.1.5 and firmware R_09_20240808; it reported that voice clarity suffered in windy conditions. That result belongs to that test and software configuration, which may have changed since.

Awareness and sound leakage

Because the ear canal remains open, the headset does not isolate you from ambient sound. That can be useful outdoors when you want to remain aware of your surroundings, but it is not a substitute for checking traffic or other hazards. RTINGS also notes that sound can leak to nearby people at higher volume. In a quiet office, library, or shared room, keep volume low and consider whether people close to you could hear it.

Battery, charging, and specifications

Shokz’s current product information claims up to 12 hours of playback and says a five-minute charge provides 2.5 hours of listening. It lists a one-hour full charge. Treat playback and quick-charge figures as manufacturer claims: actual endurance varies with volume and use. RTINGS reports useful battery duration in its testing, but that does not establish a guaranteed runtime for every listener. Shokz UK specifications

What IP55 does—and does not—mean

Shokz rates the OpenRun Pro 2 IP55, but says it is not suitable for seawater, saunas, or showering. The company warns that water exposure can clog the speaker mesh or enter through seams. Do not treat the rating as approval for swimming or routine shower use. See Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 support for the manufacturer’s use guidance.

OpenRun Pro 2 vs. OpenRun Pro and OpenRun

The most useful distinction is the Pro 2’s DualPitch arrangement, USB-C charging, and stated 12-hour playback claim. Shokz’s comparison page identifies DualPitch, EQ options, and USB-C as differences from OpenRun Pro. Its listed figures below are manufacturer comparison specifications, not independent measurements. Is the OpenRun Pro 2 worth it?

It is most defensible for runners, cyclists, and workout listeners who specifically want an open-ear design and value the fit reported by reviewers. It is a weaker choice if you need isolation, want conventional headphone sound, or listen in a place where leakage could bother other people. The key question is not whether open-ear listening is universally better, but whether its awareness-and-comfort tradeoff matches your routine.
