Choose Standard if you want only the base game. Choose Digital Deluxe if you want the Starter Pack, SEGA Villains Stage, digital art book and soundtrack. Physical ownership is more complicated: regular retail availability depends on platform, while limited-run copies for Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox were produced in small quantities. The Nintendo Switch 2 version launched on September 24, 2026 as a separate Digital Deluxe product.
This guide explains every announced edition, which platforms have physical copies, what the limited-run packages contain, how Switch save transfers work, and which purchase makes sense for your setup.
What SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance is
SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance is a 2D action platformer starring Joe Musashi. SEGA describes it as an all-new entry created by Lizardcube, the studio behind Streets of Rage 4. The presentation uses hand-drawn art, while the combat combines combo attacks with Ninjutsu, Ninpo and Amulets. The campaign spans more than a dozen stages, including military bases and desert environments.
That design matters when choosing an edition. Every edition contains the same core action-platformer; the higher-priced versions add cosmetics, a crossover stage, digital extras or physical collectibles rather than a different campaign.

| Steam | August 29, 2025 | Digital PC release; no physical Steam version. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | September 24, 2026 | Separate Digital Deluxe product; Nintendo lists 1080p handheld presentation. |
The August 29, 2025 date applies to the original console and PC versions. Switch 2 is a later release, not simply a new box for the original Switch cartridge.
Standard Edition: the base game
The Standard Edition includes the complete base game and nothing beyond the standard package. SEGA’s Japanese 2025 announcement listed it at 3,000 yen before tax, or 3,300 yen tax-included. Those figures are Japanese list prices and should not be treated as a universal regional price.
SEGA also advertised two pre-order bonuses for the Standard Edition: the Original Arcade Outfit and the Fortune Hunter Amulet. Whether a particular storefront still grants a pre-order item depends on when and where the order was placed; do not assume a current purchase includes an expired promotion.

Who should buy Standard
- Players who want the campaign and gameplay systems without bonus content.
- Anyone buying on sale where the Deluxe extras are not important.
- Collectors purchasing a limited-run physical package whose contents already include selected Deluxe add-ons.
Digital Deluxe Edition: what the premium bundle adds
The Digital Deluxe Edition combines the base game with a Digital Deluxe Upgrade. SEGA lists four groups of extras:
- Starter Pack: Ghost Outfit, Medic Lite Amulet and in-game currency.
- SEGA Villains Stage: a crossover stage featuring Goro Majima, Dr. Eggman and Death Adder.
- Digital Art Book: a digital art-book release.
- Soundtrack: a digital soundtrack.
SEGA’s Japanese announcement listed Digital Deluxe at 4,000 yen before tax, or 4,400 yen tax-included. The difference from the Japanese Standard list price is 1,000 yen before tax, but regional storefront prices, discounts and taxes can change the real gap.
For pre-orders, SEGA advertised up to 72 hours of early access for Deluxe buyers. The offer excluded Nintendo Switch, so Switch customers should not expect that early-access window merely because they selected Deluxe.

When Deluxe is worth it
- Buy it when you specifically want the crossover stage, digital reference material or soundtrack.
- Choose it if the Ghost Outfit or Medic Lite Amulet matters to your play style or collection.
- Skip it when you only want the campaign and the local price premium is larger than the value of those extras.
Switch 2 Digital Deluxe: what changes
Nintendo lists a Switch 2 Digital Deluxe Edition released on September 24, 2026. Its core bundle matches the Deluxe package described above: the base game, Starter Pack, SEGA Villains Stage and Digital Art Book plus Soundtrack.
Nintendo lists 1080p presentation in handheld mode for the Switch 2 version. That is a display specification for the Switch 2 product, not a promise that the original Switch edition receives the same presentation through an update.
Switch-to-Switch 2 save transfer
Nintendo says save data can move from Switch to Switch 2. The direction is one-way: Switch 2 save data cannot carry back to the original Switch. Plan the transfer before making the newer console your primary system, and keep the original console’s save until you have confirmed that the move completed successfully.
The save-direction warning is the most important practical difference for existing Switch owners. If you regularly alternate between both consoles, decide which machine will hold your continuing progress before buying the Switch 2 edition.
Is SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance digital only?
No, but physical availability is limited by platform and distributor.

- The iconic SHINOBI returns in an all-new 2D action platformer with a unique hand-drawn look created by the team behind the hit brawler Streets of Rage 4.
Limited Run Games supplied region-free physical Standard, Classic and Collector’s editions for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox. These were separate limited productions rather than ordinary, continuously stocked retail editions. Stock status and secondary-market prices can change quickly, so a listing that existed at launch may no longer be orderable.
Physical editions and what they contain
Limited-run Standard Edition
Limited Run Games listed a physical Standard Edition at $39.99. The listing is now marked sold out. Unlike the basic digital Standard description, that physical bundle included the game plus several extras: Ghost Outfit, SEGA Villains Stage DLC, Medic Lite Amulet, Digital Art Book and Soundtrack.
That difference is easy to miss. A package labeled Standard by the physical distributor was not identical to SEGA’s base-game-only digital Standard Edition. Check the contents of the exact platform listing rather than assuming that every Standard label means the same bundle.
Classic Edition
Limited Run Games also produced a Classic Edition for Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox. The supplied product information identifies it as part of the same region-free physical program but does not state a price or a complete itemized contents list. Treat any reseller description as a separate claim and verify it against the specific listing.
Collector’s Edition
The Collector’s Edition was listed at $199.99 and is marked sold out/in production. Its package included:
- The game with the included downloadable content.
- Deluxe clamshell case.
- Soundtrack CD.
- Hardcover art book.
- SteelBook case.
- Eight-inch Joe Musashi statue.
- Individually numbered Shikishi art board.
- A new SEGA Visions magazine.
The PC Collector’s Edition included a digital Steam code rather than a physical PC disc. That means the elaborate collector packaging does not change Steam’s digital-only software distribution.
Rank #4
- DLC Included: Ghost Outfit SEGA Villains Stage Downloadable Content Medic Lite Amulet Digital Art Book and Soundtrack 2000 Gold Genre: Action # of Players: 1 Player
Because the listing is sold out/in production, the $199.99 figure is the listed price for that limited-run offering, not a guaranteed current resale value or a promise of remaining stock.

Buying by platform
PlayStation 4
Plan for a digital purchase. SEGA explicitly lists no physical PS4 version. The Standard-versus-Deluxe choice therefore concerns included software content, not disc availability.
PlayStation 5
You can choose a digital edition or look for a limited-run physical copy. The limited-run program covered PS5 Standard, Classic and Collector’s editions, but stock was not described as ongoing retail inventory.
Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
SEGA’s product information says there is no standard physical version for either Xbox generation. Limited Run Games nevertheless supplied region-free physical Xbox editions. If you want a disc, confirm that the listing is the limited-run release and verify whether it is available, sold out or awaiting production.
Nintendo Switch
The original Switch received a digital release and limited-run physical editions. Remember that the advertised Deluxe early-access period excluded Nintendo Switch. If a physical listing includes the crossover DLC and other bonuses, compare its bundle contents with the base digital Standard before paying a premium.
Nintendo Switch 2
The Switch 2 product is a separate Digital Deluxe release dated September 24, 2026. It offers the listed 1080p handheld presentation and supports save movement from Switch to Switch 2, but not the reverse direction.
Best Value
Steam
Steam is digital-only according to SEGA’s physical-format statement. The PC Collector’s package supplies a digital Steam code, so buying that package gives you physical memorabilia while the playable copy remains tied to Steam.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose without overpaying
- Start with the platform. Confirm whether you are buying for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2 or Steam. This immediately rules out some physical options.
- Decide whether the base game is enough. Standard is the straightforward choice when the campaign is your only requirement.
- Price the Deluxe extras locally. Compare the actual regional difference, not the Japanese yen figures, and decide whether the crossover stage, Starter Pack, art book and soundtrack justify it.
- Check early-access qualifications. The advertised up-to-72-hour Deluxe pre-order access excluded Nintendo Switch.
- For physical copies, verify the exact bundle. A limited-run Standard listing included DLC and digital extras that the base digital Standard does not.
- For Switch owners, settle the save-transfer plan. Move progress from Switch to Switch 2 only if you accept that Switch 2 saves cannot return to Switch.
- For collectors, separate contents from availability. The Collector’s package has a detailed contents list, but its listed $199.99 offer is sold out/in production; a reseller’s price is not the original list price.
Physical-buying pitfalls
Assuming every platform has a disc
There is no physical PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S or Steam version in SEGA’s standard product information. A physical Xbox listing comes from the limited-run program and should be treated as a special release.
Assuming every Standard package is base-game only
The digital Standard description and Limited Run Games’ physical Standard listing have different contents. Read the bullet list for the exact SKU before comparing prices.

Confusing sold-out status with a live offer
The $39.99 physical Standard listing is marked sold out, and the $199.99 Collector’s listing is sold out/in production. Neither figure proves that a new copy is currently available at that price.
Buying the wrong Switch version
Switch and Switch 2 are separate products with different release timing. Confirm the console logo and edition name before checkout, especially when buying a digital code from a third party.
Expecting save data to move both ways
Nintendo’s stated transfer path is Switch to Switch 2. It does not include a return path from Switch 2 to Switch.
