The Shinco SPS-12C is a 12,000 BTU portable air conditioner, but the available specifications are not fully consistent across sources or markets. Shinco’s official Australian listing is for the SPS-12C-AU; a separate CHOICE listing gives a different weight and dimensions. Treat the figures below as SKU-specific, and check the exact model and included parts before buying.
What the published specifications say
Shinco’s Australian product page describes the SPS-12C-AU as a 12,000 BTU portable air conditioner with cooling, dehumidification and fan modes. Its listed specifications are:

CHOICE’s listing reports 3.5 kW cooling capacity and R290 refrigerant, but gives the unit’s weight as 29 kg and its dimensions as 73 × 43 × 36 cm. It also lists a 180 cm cord, window kit and remote control as accessories. Those weight and dimension figures differ from Shinco’s Australian page; the available sources do not explain whether this reflects another regional variant or a different measurement convention. Check the label and documentation for the specific unit you are considering rather than combining the figures into one definitive specification.

CHOICE’s accessible listing restricts its room-size and dehumidifier-capacity fields to members, so those values cannot be confirmed from the public information. Its specifications are available at CHOICE’s SPS-12C listing.
Installation depends on correct exhaust venting
A portable air conditioner needs a way to send warm exhaust air outside. The SPS-12C manual calls for the exhaust hose to remain unobstructed and not be substantially bent. It specifies a hose length of 280–1,500 mm and warns against extensions or substituting a different hose: “The length of the exhaust pipe shall be 280~1,500mm, and this length is based on the specifications of the air conditioning. Do not use extension tubes or replace it with other different hoses, or this may cause a malfunction.” The quotation is from the SPS-12C instruction manual.

Shinco says the window venting kit seals the opening around the exhaust hose. Its FAQ says an additional window kit may be purchased for larger windows, but that does not establish that any particular third-party kit or replacement hose will fit. Confirm compatibility with the seller or manufacturer before ordering replacement parts. Shinco’s general guidance places 12,000 BTU units in a 300–400-square-foot range; this is a broad category estimate, not a verified room-size rating or independent test of the SPS-12C. Positioning and setup in the manual
- Let it stand upright. Keep the unit upright for at least two hours before use.
- Choose a stable spot. Set it on a flat surface.
- Allow clearance. Leave at least 50 cm between the unit and walls or other objects.
- Route the exhaust hose as specified. Keep it within the manual’s 280–1,500 mm length, unobstructed and without substantial bends; do not extend it or replace it with another hose.
Filter care and seasonal storage
The manual recommends cleaning the filter screen every two weeks when dust has accumulated. Remove the filter screens, wash them with warm water and neutral detergent, and dry them in the shade before reinstalling. Before seasonal storage, drain and dry the unit as directed in the manual.

What this review can—and cannot—establish
The available sources establish a manufacturer specification set for the Australian SPS-12C-AU, plus a CHOICE listing with some conflicting physical measurements. They do not establish tested cooling performance, an independently verified room-coverage figure, or a fair performance comparison with another portable air conditioner. They also do not verify a current model-specific replacement-parts listing. If comparing units, use matching market variants and rating methods, and check noise measurement type, included hose and window kit, drainage requirements, maintenance, and warranty or service terms.
