The Sharp R-995DW is a large Australian-market convection microwave that combines microwave, convection, grill and mixed cooking modes. Its specifications and included accessories make it versatile on paper, but its substantial footprint, manual setup for some combinations and uncertain current availability mean it is not an automatic choice. The evidence supports a feature-and-fit assessment—not a claim of hands-on or comparative testing.
What the Sharp R-995DW does
Sharp’s 2016 Australian specification sheet lists 1000 W microwave output, inverter technology, convection, grill, mixed cooking, sensor technology, six power levels, weight defrost and 21 auto menus. Appliances Online lists a nominal 40 L capacity and 362 mm turntable. These figures describe the product; they do not establish how it performs against another oven.
Microwave, convection and grill
Microwave mode heats food using microwave power. Convection cooking uses heated air, with the manual offering operation with or without preheating. Its example convection setting reaches 250°C. Grill mode provides a separate way to brown or cook food using grill heat. Follow the manual’s directions for choosing a mode and placing accessories.

The manual describes two mix modes: microwave power combined with grill heat, or microwave power combined with convection heat. These are not simply extra automatic programmes; the operator selects settings such as mode or power and cooking time, and may need to set a temperature or preheat for convection. The manual also permits a sequence of up to four cooking programmes.

Sensor and automatic menus
Sensor Cook uses vapour detection to calculate power and cooking time. The manual lists four Sensor Cook menus and three convenience-cook menus. Sharp’s specification sheet separately lists 21 auto menus overall. Those counts refer to different menu groupings, not necessarily conflicting totals. Automatic settings may be convenient, but they are not a substitute for checking the manual for the food and mode you intend to use.
Will it fit your counter and cookware?
Appliances Online lists external dimensions of 550 × 368 × 537 mm (W × H × D), weight of 19 kg, nominal capacity of 40 L and a 362 mm turntable. The retailer and Sharp identify optional trim kit EBR9900W. Before buying, measure the available space and check the manual’s ventilation clearances, electrical suitability for your location and installation requirements.

A 40 L nominal capacity does not mean every large rectangular dish will fit or rotate freely. One owner reported that some casserole dishes did not fit; that is an individual observation, not a complete cookware-fit test. Measure your usual dishes and allow for their handles and the turntable’s usable area.

The retailer lists a high rack, low rack, two square trays and a roller stay as included accessories. Verify the contents against the seller’s listing, especially for a used or remaining-stock unit; do not assume every listed piece is still present.

The Sharp R-995D(W) operation manual gives an important model-specific warning: “Never use the square tray for microwave cooking as this may cause arcing.” Use accessories only in the modes and positions specified by the manual. The manual also warns that the door, outer cabinet, cavity, accessories and dishes can become hot; use thick oven gloves when handling hot items.
If you are trying to identify an unfamiliar black slide-in tray or looking for an R-995DW replacement turntable, do not guess from appearance alone. Check the model’s operation manual or ask Sharp support to confirm the part and its permitted use before operating the oven with it.

What do owners say about the R-995DW?
ProductReview.com.au contains sharply mixed individual reports. Some owners praise cooking or convection baking; others describe menu changes as inconvenient, say some dishes do not fit as expected, or report disappointing convection results, early failures or a safety-switch trip after preheating. These accounts are unverified personal experiences. They do not establish a common defect, a failure rate or a controlled performance comparison.
Andoo displays a 3.9 rating from seven reviews. That small retailer-hosted sample is too limited and volatile to serve as a robust reliability measure. The available material does not provide a model-specific independent laboratory test or a reliable failure statistic, so neither should be inferred from owner comments or the presence of inverter technology.

Is the Sharp R-995DW still available?
As checked in October 2026, Andoo labels the R-995DW no longer available. Appliances Online still has a product page with specifications, but that page does not establish current stock. The current Sharp Australia microwave category listing checked for this article did not show the model. Availability is therefore uncertain in the checked Australian channels; this does not prove that no remaining stock or secondhand units exist.
Before buying a new-old-stock or used unit, confirm the exact model suffix, seller and condition, included racks and trays, return terms, warranty region and access to service. Sharp’s manual directs Australian owners to Sharp Australia for approved service-centre locations. Its warranty notice says it applies only to products sold in Australia and New Zealand; confirm coverage for the specific sale rather than assuming an imported or used appliance remains covered. Sharp’s 2016 specification sheet lists a one-year warranty, but the terms applicable to a particular purchase should be checked with the seller or Sharp.
Who should consider it?
The R-995DW may suit someone who wants microwave, convection and grill functions in one appliance, can accommodate its dimensions and cookware, and is comfortable learning the manual settings for mixed cooking. The included racks and trays add flexibility when present and in good condition. Its case is weaker if you need a straightforward, highly automated interface, have oversized dishes, or require confidently available new stock and clearly established current warranty coverage.
