The Shark SpeedStyle Pro FLEX is a folding hair dryer with a four-attachment US bundle, but the exact model matters: this review concerns the US HD542, not the electrically different UK HD542UK or Canadian HD542C. Shark promotes fast airflow and precise temperature regulation; those are manufacturer claims, while the available drying-time results come from one reviewer’s personal routine rather than a controlled comparison.

Regional variants have different electrical specifications and warranty terms. The UK model is HD542UK; Shark lists its weight as 0.68 kg, and its two-year guarantee requires registration in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Its manual specifies 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz, and 1,700 W. The Canadian model HD542C is listed at 120 V and 1,750 W. Consult the relevant regional product page and manual rather than assuming a model sold elsewhere will work with your outlet or carry the same warranty. What comes in the box?
The US and UK product listings name four attachments: the FrizzFighter Finishing Tool, QuickSmooth Brush, Turbo Concentrator, and DefrizzFast Diffuser. That means the listed bundles include a brush attachment, but the product pages identify it as a smoothing brush—not a conventional round brush. Shark also lists separate accessories and replacement parts, including a wide-tooth comb and additional brush, diffuser, concentrator, and finishing-tool parts. Check that any add-on is compatible with your regional model; a similar-looking attachment is not proof of fit.
How the folding design and attachments affect day-to-day use
Folding handle and storage
Shark says the handle folds so the dryer takes up half its size. That is a practical travel and storage feature, though the stated reduction concerns the dryer itself; it does not make the attachments disappear from your bag. The US listing gives the cord length as 8 feet.

Shark says airflow reaches 100 mph in under a second, the dryer measures and regulates temperature 1,000 times per second, and its stated maximum temperature is 230°F (110°C). It also describes automatic temperature and airflow adjustments for each attachment, a Scalp Shield mode, and IQ styling features. Shark’s “no heat damage” language should not be read as a promise that damage is impossible. The cited product information does not establish that the dryer can eliminate heat damage under every combination of hair type, settings, distance, technique, and frequency of use. Temperature regulation is a feature claim, not a substitute for sensible heat styling.
What published drying times can—and cannot—tell you
Tom’s Guide reviewer Lucy Scotting said she used the Pro FLEX in her everyday routine for two months. She reported about 15.21 minutes to dry her thick hair from completely wet on the highest settings. For diffusing, she used medium heat and medium airflow and reported an average of 35 minutes, compared with about an hour in her usual routine. Safety and care details worth knowing
The HD542UK manual gives specific safety instructions. Use the manual for your own regional model, since the instructions and electrical requirements must match the appliance you have. The UK manual says:

Who should consider it, and what should they verify?
The Pro FLEX is worth considering if you want a dryer that folds for storage and a bundle that, in the US and UK listings, covers concentrated drying, brush styling, diffusing, and finishing. The fit depends on your routine: someone seeking a dedicated round brush, a particular attachment, or a proven speed advantage over another dryer should not infer those answers from Shark’s promotional figures or one reviewer’s timing.
