The Shark IZ102 is a cordless stick vacuum that converts to a handheld, with a removable battery, three floor settings and a self-cleaning brushroll. Shark lists a 40-minute Standard-mode runtime measured at the hand vacuum—not a verified whole-stick cleaning session. Its published charging time is also inconsistent: the Australian product page says 3.5 hours, while Shark APAC support says approximately 3 hours.
The specifications and performance descriptions below come from Shark’s Australian product listing and APAC support guidance. They are manufacturer claims, not results from independent testing.
What is the Shark IZ102?
The IZ102 is a cordless stick vacuum that can convert to handheld use. Shark Clean Australia describes it as having a self-cleaning brushroll, removable battery, sealed HEPA filtration, swivel steering and LED headlights. It offers Hard Floor, Carpet and Boost settings. Shark’s New Zealand product page also identifies the IZ102 and directs owners to parts and accessories.

How long does the IZ102 run, and how long does it take to charge?
Shark Clean Australia lists 40 minutes in Standard mode, measured at the hand vacuum. Treat this as a manufacturer-stated figure with that measurement condition: it does not establish runtime for every mode or a full-stick cleaning session.

Charging time is reported differently by Shark’s sources. The Australian listing gives 3.5 hours; Shark APAC Support’s IZ102 FAQ, updated 1 May 2026, says a full charge takes approximately 3 hours. The available sources do not resolve the difference, so check the current instructions for your regional model. Shark says the battery does not arrive fully charged and recommends charging it completely before first use.
How do the floor settings work?
- Hard Floor: Shark says this setting is for bare floors and small area rugs, with a slower brushroll.
- Carpet: Shark says the brushroll runs faster for deeper pickup.
- Boost: Adds power while its trigger is held, according to Shark’s support guidance.
These descriptions explain the controls but do not provide independent evidence of pickup performance on any floor type.

What should you do if the brushroll is not spinning?
Shark’s FAQ identifies three possible causes: the vacuum is switched off, the handheld body is not tilted back far enough, or the floor nozzle is blocked. Check that the unit is on and tilted back, then inspect the nozzle for an obstruction. Switch off the vacuum before clearing a blockage.
What should you do if hair is wrapped around the brushroll?
Shark recommends running the vacuum in Carpet setting over a bare floor or low-pile rug to let the self-cleaning feature work. If fibers remain, switch the vacuum off and remove them carefully by hand. The self-cleaning design is not a guarantee against all tangles.

How often should you clean the filters?
Shark APAC Support says to clean the pre-motor filters at least once a month and the post-motor/HEPA filter at least once a year. Heavy use may call for more frequent cleaning.

- Remove the filters according to the instructions for your regional model.
- Rinse with water only; Shark says not to use soap.
- Let the filters air-dry completely for at least 24 hours before reinstalling them.
What should you not pick up with the IZ102?
Shark says not to vacuum liquids, large objects, sharp items such as glass, nails or coins, large quantities of dust such as drywall ash, or smoking or flammable materials such as hot coals or gasoline. If you suspect the vacuum has overheated, switch it off and let it cool for at least 45 minutes before restarting, as Shark advises.

Battery replacement and regional compatibility
The Australian listing says the battery is removable and can be charged either in or out of the vacuum. Shark New Zealand points IZ102 owners to its parts and accessories route, but the available information does not establish a specific replacement-battery SKU or cross-region compatibility. Match the exact regional model before buying a replacement battery, filter or attachment; do not assume an item listed for another IZ102 market will fit.
Is the Shark IZ102 the right cordless vacuum for you?
The published feature set may suit someone looking for a convertible stick/handheld vacuum with a removable battery, washable filters and separate hard-floor and carpet settings. The most useful limits to weigh are the small 0.4 L dust cup, the unresolved charging-time difference, and the fact that the 40-minute figure is measured at the hand vacuum. Shark’s specifications do not substitute for independent pickup, runtime or noise testing, so they cannot establish how the IZ102 performs in a particular home.
