To give teammates access to a YouTube channel, invite each person’s own Google Account through YouTube Studio channel permissions. Do not share the channel owner’s Google login. YouTube describes channel permissions as safer than sharing a password and says they let invited users access channel tools and data without access to the owner’s Google Account. How to invite a teammate to your YouTube channel
- Sign in to YouTube Studio with an account that can manage the channel’s permissions.
- Open Settings → Permissions.
- Select Invite, enter the teammate’s email address, and choose the role that matches their work.
- Send the invitation. The invited person must accept it; the invitation expires after 30 days.
Use the person’s Google Account email and give each teammate an individual invitation. To change or remove access later, return to Settings → Permissions and update that person’s role or remove them. YouTube’s current instructions are at Add or remove access to your YouTube channel with channel permissions.
Choose a role based on the work they need to do
YouTube offers Owner, Manager, Editor, Editor (limited), Viewer, and Viewer (limited) roles. The roles differ in what users can change or publish, whether they can manage access, and what channel information they can see. Limited roles exclude revenue information. Check the current role table in YouTube Studio before inviting someone, since capabilities can change.
Use the least powerful role that still lets the teammate do their job. In particular, do not assign Owner or Manager simply for convenience: Owners can delete the channel and manage permissions, while Managers can manage permissions but cannot delete the channel. YouTube’s safety guidance recommends granting only the access level a person needs and removing access when they leave or no longer need it. If the channel is linked to a Brand Account
YouTube recommends moving Brand Account user access to channel permissions for managing channel access. The Brand Account’s primary owner must initiate the move in YouTube Studio. Existing users are copied into the permissions area, but the owner still needs to assign each person a permission level and send an invitation.

Brand Account access is not a reason to pass around one login: YouTube’s Brand Account guidance says multiple Google Accounts can manage a channel, and warns that Brand Account owners can take broad actions, including deleting the channel and removing other owners. Know what channel permissions do not cover
- They do not grant YouTube API management. Invited users cannot manage YouTube APIs.
- They do not support YouTube Music or YouTube Kids. Teams that depend on those services need to account for this limitation.
- They do not make every action a channel action. Public actions attributed to the channel are distinct from private activity on the delegate’s signed-in account. Searches, viewing history, purchases, and purchase history remain examples of private activity.

Keep access current as the team changes
- Review the people listed under YouTube Studio → Settings → Permissions.
- Remove access when a teammate leaves or no longer needs it.
- Change a role if someone’s responsibilities shrink or expand, rather than leaving unnecessarily broad access in place.
- Use the current role table in Studio to confirm what a role allows before assigning it.
