Our pick is Sakura—her youthful energy and admiration for Ryu would add a new perspective without displacing the established leads. Fei Long and Rose would also give a follow-up sharply different directions. The choice is speculative: no sequel to the 2026 live-action film has been officially announced.
Capcom and Legendary’s live-action Street Fighter opened theatrically on October 16, 2026, with Paramount distributing it. Legendary’s synopsis places the story in 1993 and follows estranged street fighters Ryu and Ken. Chun-Li recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament, while Capcom’s announced principal cast includes Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken and Callina Liang as Chun-Li.
That gives any future film a clear foundation. The more interesting question is not whether Ryu, Ken or Chun-Li should return, but which additional fighter could expand the story without turning the tournament into an overcrowded checklist of cameos.

Sakura: the strongest all-around addition
Sakura would bring an enthusiastic younger fighter into a cast led by established professionals. Her admiration for Ryu creates an immediate relationship that can be played as mentorship, rivalry or both. She also gives the audience a viewpoint closer to a newcomer discovering the World Warrior scene rather than another veteran explaining it.
#1 Best Overall

- Highly Articulated Figure - Sagat is fully poseable with interchangeable heads, hands, Tiger Shot effect piece and stand that allows for a variety of dynamic poses and perfect for recreating his signature moves like Tiger Shot, Tiger Uppercut and Tiger Knee
- Collector’s Packaging - Packaged in premium, arcade-style packaging inspired by the original Street Fighter II arcade game
- Jada Toys - Delivers top-quality action figures with meticulous attention to detail, making this Sagat figure a must-have for Street Fighter fans and collectors.
In a tournament plot, Sakura can have a practical arc: she begins as an energetic fan who imitates techniques she respects, then learns what discipline and personal purpose mean when the matches become dangerous. Her bright visual identity would contrast with Ryu’s restrained presentation and Ken’s more polished confidence. The risk is making her comic relief; the adaptation would need to let her win meaningful fights and make consequential choices.
Fei Long: the best martial-arts and cinema homage
Fei Long would suit a film that wants to foreground hand-to-hand combat and Hong Kong cinema influence. His inclusion could produce a focused matchup with Ryu or Ken, built around technique and professional pride rather than supernatural stakes.

He is especially useful if the filmmakers want the World Warrior Tournament to feel like a global event with distinct schools of fighting. Fei Long’s screen time would need to do more than reference movie history: he should have a reason to enter the tournament, a conflict that is not identical to Ryu’s search for improvement, and a fight staged around speed, timing and close-range exchanges.

Rose: the boldest story expansion
Rose would push the series toward a more supernatural, story-driven angle. She can connect tournament events to a larger threat, giving the sequel a mystery or prophetic dimension instead of treating every match as an isolated bracket encounter.
Rank #3
- VIDEO GAME NOSTALGIA: Street Fighter II - Licensed from Capcom
- COLLECTOR GRADE: Premium packaging
- SIZE: 1:12 scale, 6” tall
- AGE: 13+
- READY TO PLAY: Includes interchangeable heads, hands, and accessories.
That option offers the most distinctive atmosphere, but it also carries the greatest tonal risk. A Rose-centered thread should clarify its rules and limits early, so the film’s supernatural elements support the fighters rather than solving conflicts for them. Used carefully, she could make the tournament feel like part of a much larger struggle.
How the candidates compare
| Character | Primary story function | Fighting and visual appeal | Fit with a World Warrior Tournament | Main adaptation challenge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sakura | Younger perspective, admirer-turned-competitor | Energetic contrast to Ryu and Ken | Natural entrant with a personal growth arc | Avoid reducing her to comic relief |
| Fei Long | Focused rival and martial-arts specialist | Hong Kong cinema homage and technical matchups | Strong fit for a globally varied fight card | Give him an independent motivation |
| Rose | Supernatural guide and mystery engine | Distinctive, story-driven presence | Can connect the tournament to a wider threat | Establish clear supernatural rules and tone |
What would make the next film work?
The tournament should remain the organizing structure, not a parade of introductions. One new fighter needs a complete arc, while other competitors can appear briefly to establish the scale of the event. The screenplay should also preserve the 1993 setting if it continues directly from the first film, using period details to distinguish the story from a contemporary superhero formula.
Rank #4
- VIDEO GAME NOSTALGIA: Street Fighter II - Licensed from Capcom
- COLLECTOR GRADE: Premium packaging
- READY TO PLAY: Includes alternate hands, head, and kick fire accessory
- SIZE: 1:12 scale, 6” tall
- Age 13+
Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li should each have a different relationship with the newcomer. Ryu can test technique and purpose, Ken can challenge ambition and status, and Chun-Li can connect the fighter to the tournament’s practical stakes. Those contrasting relationships matter more than simply reproducing a famous roster.

Which Street Fighter character do you hope to see added next? Sakura is the most balanced choice for character growth and audience accessibility; Fei Long is the clearest choice for a martial-arts showcase; Rose offers the largest expansion of the story’s mythology. A different fighter could win the debate if the filmmakers build a role with the same care.
Capcom said in its 2025 announcement that it “aims to further elevate the global value of its IP.” Hasbro has also announced licensed Street Fighter action figures, toys and collectibles tied to the film, so fans may soon have another way to choose a favorite fighter while the movie conversation develops.
