To connect a Samsung printer to Wi-Fi, first confirm that your exact model supports wireless networking, then use a setup method its manual supports: WPS, a wireless setup wizard, or computer-assisted setup. If you want a phone to connect directly to the printer, that is a different feature—Wi-Fi Direct—not the same as joining your home router.
Before you begin, check your printer model
Samsung printers do not all have wireless capability or the same control-panel menus. Find the model number on the printer’s label or in its documentation, then check the model-specific support page or manual for wireless support and setup instructions. HP’s Samsung Printer Diagnostics guidance also says to check whether the printer supports wireless function: Samsung Printer Diagnostics guidance.
Do not assume a Wi-Fi menu, WPS button, supported frequency band, software utility, or cable requirement based on another Samsung printer. The available options depend on the model.

| Method | Best fit | What it requires |
|---|---|---|
| WPS | Joining the printer to a router when you want it available on the home network | WPS support on both the printer and router or access point, plus the model-specific sequence |
| Wireless wizard or USB-assisted setup | Following a guided configuration on a supported printer | A setup wizard or computer-assisted procedure specified for your model; some procedures use a USB cable temporarily |
| Wi-Fi Direct | Connecting a supported mobile device directly to the printer | Wi-Fi Direct support and the printer’s model-specific instructions; it does not connect the printer to your router |
Samsung’s M262x/M282x manual describes a setup wizard and USB-assisted wireless configuration. It labels the wizard option: “Wizard (recommended): In this mode, the setup is automatic.” That description applies to the manual’s listed models, not every Samsung printer. See the Samsung M262x/M282x manual and setup guides.

Connect the printer to your router
Use the path supported by your model. The goal here is for the printer to join the router’s network so devices on that network can use it.
Option 1: Use WPS if both devices support it
- Check the printer manual and router documentation to confirm that both support WPS.
- Follow the exact WPS sequence in the printer manual. Samsung manuals document a WPS-button setup route on supported models, but button names and steps vary.
- When the printer indicates that setup has completed, use its manual’s connection-check instructions before trying to print.
WPS is not an option if either the printer or router lacks support. Avoid applying a button sequence or hold duration from another model; the available source guidance does not establish one sequence for all Samsung printers. See Samsung wireless capability and setup guidance and the Samsung WPS setup guidance.

Option 2: Use the wireless wizard or computer-assisted setup
- Open the exact printer model’s manual and locate its wireless setup instructions.
- If the manual offers a wireless setup wizard, follow its on-screen or documented prompts. The M262x/M282x manual describes a wizard-based path.
- If the manual specifies a computer-assisted setup, follow its instructions for the computer and operating system. Some Samsung procedures use a USB connection while configuring wireless settings; connect a cable only if your model’s instructions call for it.
- Complete the model’s connection check, then try printing from a device connected to the same router network.
USB-assisted setup is temporary configuration assistance on models whose instructions specify it; it does not mean the printer must remain tethered for wireless printing. HP also provides Samsung wireless setup guidance using USB on Windows. Follow the instructions for your printer rather than assuming the same software or cable applies to every model.
Use Wi-Fi Direct for a direct device-to-printer connection
Wi-Fi Direct creates a peer-to-peer connection between a supported printer and a mobile device. It can be useful when you want to print directly without first putting the printer on your home router. It does not, by itself, make the printer a member of the router’s network. Check the printer manual for whether Wi-Fi Direct is available and how to enable it and connect your device. For the distinction between direct and router-based connections, see Samsung Wi-Fi Direct guidance.

If the printer will not connect
- Confirm wireless support. Recheck the exact model number and its manual. A printer without wireless capability cannot be added to Wi-Fi through a setup menu.
- Check the selected network and password. Make sure the printer is being configured for the intended router network and that the entered credentials match it.
- Verify WPS compatibility. WPS requires support on both the printer and router or access point. If either does not support it, use another setup path listed for the printer.
- Check the supported Wi-Fi band. Consult the printer’s specifications before changing router settings. HP’s general setup guidance says to use 2.4 GHz when the printer model requires it; that is not a universal requirement for Samsung printers. See HP’s wireless setup guidance.
- Distinguish Wi-Fi Direct from router Wi-Fi. A direct mobile connection does not establish that the printer has joined the home network. Choose the method that matches where you want the printer available.
- Follow model-specific recovery steps. If setup still fails, consult the exact model’s manual for its connection checks and retry instructions rather than relying on a generic button sequence.
What to expect from model-specific instructions
Official setup materials document several valid pathways, but they do not establish one universal sequence for every Samsung printer. WPS controls, wizard availability, USB use, and supported bands can differ by model. Use the model manual as the authority for menu names, button actions, software requirements, and connection checks.
