You can prepare a temporary travel setup on a supported Samsung Galaxy using Modes and Routines. Go to Settings > Modes and Routines, create a mode for your trip, and choose from the actions your phone actually offers. Turn it on when you need it and turn it off when you return; Samsung documents manual and condition-based activation, but not a universal option to make every mode expire at a chosen time.
Create a travel mode
- Open Settings > Modes and Routines. Depending on your device, the feature may also have an Apps screen shortcut. Samsung notes that availability varies by device and software version, so menu names and options may differ. Samsung’s US guide describes the feature and its availability; check the path shown on your own phone.
- Tap Modes to add or edit a mode. If you want to build a set of behaviors around a trigger instead, choose Routines. Exact labels can vary by model and software version. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 guide describes adding a mode, activating it manually, and turning it off through the mode controls.
- Name the mode something easy to recognize, such as Travel, then review the available actions and select only the ones that fit your trip. There is no verified universal action list for every Galaxy, so use the choices displayed on your device rather than assuming a particular setting is available.
- Save the mode. Activate it manually when you are ready to use the travel setup, or select a condition only if your phone offers a suitable one.
Choose how the mode starts and ends
Manual activation is the clearest option for a temporary trip: switch the mode on when travel begins and switch it off when you no longer need it. Modes can also start when configured conditions are detected, but available conditions depend on the phone and software.
Samsung’s Hong Kong guidance describes a travelling abroad condition for custom routines when Customised services is enabled. This is a regional and version-dependent possibility, not a feature to expect on every Galaxy. Samsung also notes that models, sequences, and settings may differ by purchase region and location. The cited Samsung guidance establishes manual and condition-based activation, but does not establish that every current Galaxy offers a scheduled end time. If your phone does not show an appropriate automatic condition, plan to turn the mode off yourself.

Decide separately whether to enable data roaming
A travel mode does not determine whether you should use international mobile data. Roaming is a separate setting, and your provider and plan determine whether it is available and what it costs. Samsung warns that extra charges may apply, so check your carrier’s terms before enabling it.
On Samsung’s US guidance, the path is Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Data Roaming Access. The setting and labels may differ by device or region. Samsung’s US roaming instructions describe that path and warn about possible additional charges. Samsung UK likewise says your provider may charge extra and must allow roaming on your service and plan. Check Samsung UK’s roaming guidance.

Check lost-device settings before you leave
Location features are useful only if they are configured and their requirements are met. Samsung says the described Samsung Find and SmartThings Find functions require the phone to be powered on, connected to a stable network, associated with a Samsung account, and have remote controls enabled. In the relevant settings, review Allow this phone to be found, Send last location, and Offline finding. Samsung’s lost-device guidance explains these options and prerequisites.

Before you travel
- Confirm that Modes and Routines and the actions you want are available on your specific Galaxy.
- Decide whether you will activate and deactivate the mode manually or use a condition actually shown on your phone.
- Check your carrier’s roaming availability and charges before switching on data roaming.
- Review Samsung Find and SmartThings Find settings, and understand that location is not guaranteed if the phone is offline or has not been configured as required.
