To use a song for incoming cellular calls, open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Ringtone, tap Add or the plus sign, select a song file stored on your Galaxy phone, then tap Done. If prompted, allow access to audio files. On some phones, you’ll also choose which SIM’s calls should use the ringtone.
How do I change my ringtone on Samsung to a song?
- Open Settings and tap Sounds and vibration > Ringtone.
- If your phone asks, select the SIM whose incoming calls should use the song. This prompt may appear on dual-SIM models, but the menu flow varies.
- Tap Add or the + icon. If asked, grant permission to access audio files.
- Choose the song file stored on your phone. If you see Play selected highlights only, turn it on to have the phone play selected highlights; leave it off to play the song from the beginning.
- Tap Done to apply the ringtone.
Samsung’s US instructions describe this process. Exact labels and screens can differ across Galaxy models, software versions, and regions.
Why can’t I select a song from Spotify or another streaming app?
The ringtone picker needs an audio file stored on the phone. Samsung says Spotify and other streaming-service tracks cannot be set directly as ringtones. An offline download inside a streaming app is not necessarily a regular audio file the ringtone picker can access. Use a local song file instead.

What if the song is missing or the ringtone does not work?
The song does not appear in the picker
- Check that the song is stored as a file on the phone, rather than only available inside a music or streaming app.
- Check whether the file format is recognized by your Galaxy model and regional software.
- Confirm you are choosing the ringtone for the intended SIM if your phone offers a SIM selection.
The ringtone is selected, but you hear no sound
Check the ringtone volume and sound mode. Also check whether Do Not Disturb or another mode is silencing calls. Samsung’s ringtone troubleshooting guide includes checks for Mute all sounds and Airplane mode; these are possibilities to verify, not assumed causes.
The menus do not match
Samsung notes that screens and settings can vary. Its Canada support page specifically cautions that menus may differ by region. Check support for your country using your Galaxy model and software version rather than assuming every phone has identical labels.

Can I set a different song for one contact?
Yes. Samsung’s US guide describes this route: open Contacts, select the person, tap More > Change ringtone/vibration > Ringtone, choose a tone, go back, and save. The guide says this procedure does not support assigning a custom ringtone to a contact stored only on the SIM. See Samsung’s contact ringtone instructions.
Does changing the ringtone also change message and app sounds?
No. A call ringtone is separate from message notifications, which Samsung directs users to configure under Notification sound. Calling or video-call apps may also have their own sound settings. See Samsung’s guidance on notification sounds and ringtone troubleshooting.
