To give alarms and timers their own volume in iOS 27, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics, turn off Match Ringtone Volume under Alarms and Timers, then adjust that group’s slider. Set your ringtone separately under Ringtone.
Separate alarm volume from ringtone volume
- Open Settings and tap Sounds & Haptics.
- Under Alarms and Timers, turn off Match Ringtone Volume.
- Drag the slider in that section to set the volume for alarms and timers.
- To set your ringtone independently, adjust the control under Ringtone.
Apple says alarms, timers, alerts, and system sounds match ringtone volume by default. Turning off the matching option for a group lets you set that group’s volume separately. Apple’s iOS 27 guide also provides a separate Match Ringtone Volume option and slider for Alerts and System Sounds, if you want to set that group independently too.
Which sounds follow the Alarms and Timers slider?
The setting covers the general Alarms and Timers group; it does not necessarily control every alarm. Wake-Up alarms and other alarms with their own volume controls may use dedicated settings instead. If a Wake-Up alarm is the one you need to change, check its own settings. 9to5Mac’s report on the feature notes this distinction, while Apple’s guide is the source for the general slider path.

- Check the Alarms and Timers slider in Settings > Sounds & Haptics.
- In the alarm’s settings, make sure Sound is not set to None.
- If you want to use the iPhone’s volume buttons to change alarm volume, Apple says to enable Change with Buttons. For setting alarms separately from ringtone volume, use the Alarms and Timers slider.
- Silent mode and Do Not Disturb do not prevent alarms from sounding. Alarms play through the iPhone’s built-in speakers even when headphones are connected.
These troubleshooting details are in Apple’s guide to setting and changing iPhone alarms.
