On most Samsung Galaxy phones, touch and hold an empty spot on the Home screen, tap Wallpaper and style → Change wallpapers, choose an image, adjust its crop, select the screen destination offered, and tap Done. You can also start with a personal photo or video in Gallery. Menu names and available destinations vary by model, software version, region, and launcher.
Choose how to set the wallpaper

Set a wallpaper from the Home screen
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen.
- Tap Wallpaper and style, then Change wallpapers.
- Choose a source, such as Gallery for a personal image, or one of the built-in options available on your device.
- Select the wallpaper. In the preview, drag it to reposition and pinch to zoom or adjust the crop.
- Select Home screen, Lock screen, or both if those choices appear, then tap Done to apply it. Some versions show the destination choice at a different point in the flow. Samsung US Support
Use a Gallery photo or video
- Open the image or video in Gallery.
- Tap the three-dot menu, then choose Set as wallpaper.
- Choose the destination shown, adjust the framing, and tap Done. For a video, trim it if the editor offers that control.
Samsung’s documented workflows differ on whether video can be assigned to the Home screen, Lock screen, or both. Use the options displayed by your own phone rather than assuming every destination is supported. Edit the Lock screen directly
On supported devices, touch and hold the Lock screen, unlock or authenticate if prompted, and tap Wallpapers or the wallpaper icon. Select an image, adjust it, and save. Some Lock screen editing flows also let you change elements such as the clock style or widgets. Samsung says this route requires a Lock screen to be set up. Samsung US Support

Photos are fitted to the display
The preview crops an image to fit the screen. Reposition it by dragging, or pinch to zoom until the subject is framed as you want. If the subject is near an edge, check the preview carefully before applying.

Filters and effects depend on software
Some photo wallpaper flows offer filters. Samsung lists Frame and Effect options on devices running One UI 6.1 or later in applicable flows; their absence on another phone does not necessarily indicate a problem. Samsung US Support
Creative and Galaxy AI options are not universal
Samsung describes Creative wallpaper options for One UI 6.1 devices. Its Galaxy AI wallpaper features are limited to select phones and tablets running Android 14 with One UI 6.1 or later, and compatibility varies by device. Samsung says basic Galaxy AI features it provides are free, while enhanced Samsung AI features and third-party AI features may have different terms or fees. Samsung US Support

Wallpaper services, themes, and rotating images
A wallpaper service can offer or rotate Lock screen images. Samsung describes Dynamic Lock screen as changing the Lock screen image when the screen turns on. Instructions on Samsung’s UK page for downloading wallpaper choices explicitly refer to Android 10, so those steps may not match current menus. Samsung US Support Samsung UK Support

Fix common wallpaper problems
The menu labels or choices are different
Samsung’s instructions vary by model and software. Samsung Japan’s steps are for One UI Home and notes that some functions may be unavailable in another home app. If you use a third-party launcher, try the built-in Samsung Home app or look for the launcher’s own wallpaper settings. The picture looks too zoomed in or cuts off the subject
Reopen the preview and reposition or pinch the image. Because the phone crops the image to fit the display, a source photo with more space around the subject can make it easier to frame.

You cannot assign a different wallpaper to each Home screen page
Samsung Japan says its One UI Home workflow does not support page-specific Home screen wallpapers. That guidance allows multiple images for the Lock screen, but does not establish that every Galaxy model or software version has the same options. Samsung Japan Support
The Home screen choice is missing for a video or set of images
Some documented workflows limit video or multiple-image selections to the Lock screen, while others show different destination choices. Follow the destinations in the preview for the media and device you selected. Samsung Japan Support Samsung US Support

A Lock screen edit asks you to unlock
Authenticate when prompted. Samsung’s Lock screen edit instructions may require credentials, and the feature requires an existing Lock screen setup. Samsung US Support
