Yes. The MOMENTUM 5 Wireless has a user-replaceable battery. Sennheiser identifies the compatible replacement as the BA 500. Replacing it requires removing the left ear pad and four screws with a PH0 Phillips screwdriver, then disconnecting the battery from the main circuit board. The job is intended to be done carefully: the speaker cable, acoustic seal, battery orientation and ear-pad fit all matter.
A replacement battery makes five-year ownership technically more realistic than it is with sealed headphones, but it is not a five-year guarantee. Sennheiser does not publish a guaranteed service life, battery-cycle count, worldwide BA 500 stock commitment or replacement price. Actual longevity depends on battery aging, physical wear, support, regional warranty terms and the cost and availability of parts.
What battery does the MOMENTUM 5 use?
Sennheiser calls the compatible replacement the BA 500. The published specification describes the installed pack as a 700 mAh exchangeable lithium-ion battery. “Exchangeable” is significant: the battery is designed to be removed rather than permanently sealed inside the ear cup.

Those statements establish replaceability, not a promise that every third-party battery will work safely.

The 57-hour figure comes from Sonova Consumer Hearing GmbH/Sennheiser’s 2026 product information. It should be treated as an upper-end operating claim rather than as a prediction of capacity after several years. Lithium-ion cells gradually lose capacity with use, storage time, heat and charging conditions.
What you need before opening the ear cup
- A compatible battery: Start with an original BA 500 where it is available. If considering another pack, verify that it demonstrably meets Sennheiser’s published electrical, physical and connector specifications for MOMENTUM 5. Do not assume that a battery with the same nominal voltage or a similar connector is safe.
- A PH0 Phillips screwdriver: The official manual specifies this driver for the ear-cup screws. A poorly fitting bit can damage the screw heads and make reassembly difficult.
- A clean, well-lit work area: Keep screws, the ear pad and the replacement pack organized. Avoid metal tools that could short contacts or damage the board.
- Time to inspect the seal: The acoustic unit, baffle and ear-pad interface must sit correctly when closed. A visible gap can affect acoustics and may allow dust or moisture into the cup.
Sennheiser warns that replacing the battery with a non-compatible model can defeat a safety safeguard, damage the headphones or reduce operating time. The manual’s wording is direct: “Replacing with a non-compatible battery can defeat safeguard!”

Obtain the correct BA 500 replacement
Use an original Sennheiser BA 500 when possible. Before ordering, confirm the model, connector, physical dimensions and regional availability. Sennheiser does not state a universal stock commitment or a standard replacement price, so availability can differ by country and over time.

Remove the left ear pad
Work on the left ear cup, following the orientation shown in the official manual. Remove the ear pad carefully rather than pulling aggressively on its mounting ring or cushion material. Set it aside where it will not collect dust or deform.

Remove the four Phillips screws
Use the PH0 Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the ear-cup assembly. Keep the screws in order and apply steady downward pressure so the driver does not slip.

Lift the acoustic unit and disconnect the battery
Lift the acoustic unit slowly. The manual warns about the speaker cable; do not tug, twist or pull it. Once the unit is safely accessible, disconnect the battery plug from the main circuit board. Pull the plug by its connector rather than by the wires.

Install and orient the new battery
Seat the replacement pack in its holder. The printed arrows on the battery should point upward toward the headband, as shown in Sennheiser’s procedure. Reconnect the plug fully to the main circuit board without forcing it at an angle.

Close the ear cup and refit the pad
Return the acoustic unit to its original position, check that the baffle is seated correctly, and tighten all four screws evenly. Refit the ear pad so its mounting edge is fully engaged around the ear cup.

Inspect before powering on
Look around the entire ear-pad and ear-cup joint. Sennheiser’s support guidance says there should be no visible gaps. If the baffle is misaligned, a cable is pinched or the pad is not fully attached, reopen the cup and correct the fit before use.
Checks after installation and common problems
The headphones do not turn on
Do not repeatedly press the power button or connect a charger while the cup is open. Recheck that the battery plug is fully seated and that the replacement pack is the correct BA 500-compatible type. Inspect for a pinched cable or a connector that has been inserted off-center.
Runtime is much shorter than expected
The “up to 57 hours” claim is a maximum operating figure, not a minimum. A non-compatible or aged pack can reduce runtime further. Confirm that the battery is the specified type, charge it fully for approximately two hours, and compare results over more than one listening session. If the pack becomes unusually hot, swells or smells abnormal, stop using the headphones and seek service.

Check the acoustic unit, baffle and ear pad. A small gap or an incorrectly seated cushion can alter the seal around the ear and change perceived bass and ANC performance. Reassemble only after the speaker cable is routed as it was originally and no material is trapped under the baffle.

A screw will not tighten or the pad will not stay attached
Stop before stripping the screw or forcing the mounting ring. Confirm that the acoustic unit is aligned and that each screw is engaging its original threaded point. A damaged fastener, pad ring or enclosure may require Sennheiser service rather than further home repair.
Can it realistically last five years?
It can, but replaceability is only one part of the calculation. A changeable battery removes the most obvious end-of-life failure mode for wireless headphones: a cell that no longer holds enough charge. It does not guarantee that the replacement will remain available, affordable or easy to install throughout five years.

For a five-year plan, keep the purchase record, retain the original battery until a replacement is confirmed, and check regional spare-part channels before the installed pack becomes unusable. Budget separately for consumables such as ear pads and for possible service if the enclosure, cable or charging circuit fails.

Warranty and when to use a service center
Warranty terms are market-specific. The detailed regional table retrieved for this model lists a 12-month warranty category, but that figure should not be generalized to every country or sales channel. Check the warranty document applicable to the place of purchase before opening a unit that may still be covered; user disassembly can affect how a claim is handled under local terms.

Use the official Sennheiser spare-parts or support route when you cannot verify a battery’s compatibility, when the battery is swollen or damaged, when a connector or circuit board has been harmed, or when the ear cup will not close with a uniform seal. A service center is also the safer choice if you do not have a PH0 driver or are uncomfortable handling the speaker cable.
How to compare long-term battery ownership with other ANC headphones
Do not compare only the largest advertised runtime number. For a meaningful ownership decision, record each model’s information in the same order:

An advertised maximum runtime should never be treated as a guaranteed five-year capacity. A model with a lower new-battery figure may be the better long-term choice if its replacement parts are documented and obtainable, while a high-runtime model with a sealed cell may require a costly service intervention when the battery ages.

Bottom line for a five-year owner
The MOMENTUM 5 is a stronger five-year ownership candidate than sealed wireless headphones because its 700 mAh battery is exchangeable and Sennheiser documents a user replacement procedure using the BA 500. Plan on careful disassembly, verify the part before buying, protect the speaker cable and restore the ear-cup seal. Treat five years as a reasonable ownership goal rather than a promised lifespan, because Sennheiser does not guarantee battery cycles, part pricing, worldwide availability or total product service life.
