If your Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 will not connect, disappears from a device’s Bluetooth list, or repeatedly announces “Lost connection,” start with a fresh pairing attempt at close range. Turn the headphones off, hold the multi-function button for five seconds, select MOMENTUM 4 on the source device, and enter 0000 only if a PIN is requested. If that fails, work through stale Bluetooth entries, range and interference checks, a hardware reset, firmware updating, and finally a pairing-list deletion or factory reset.
The order matters because some fixes preserve your saved connections while others erase them. The steps below separate headphone-side problems from phone, computer, television, and environmental causes.
What the connection symptoms usually mean
Several different conditions can look like “Bluetooth is broken.” A headset that never appears in a scan is usually not in pairing mode, is already trying its last connections, has a full or stale profile list, or is too far from the source. A headset that connects and then drops may be leaving Bluetooth range, encountering walls or radio interference, losing power, or running outdated firmware. A source device can also retain a damaged old entry or connect to another nearby device first.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Not visible: the headphones may be off, outside pairing mode, already occupied with another connection, or no longer have room for the expected profile.
- Connects briefly, then disconnects: check distance, obstacles, competing connections, battery state, and firmware.
- Only one phone or computer fails: focus on that source’s Bluetooth entry, operating system, driver, or competing connections rather than immediately resetting the headset.
- Every source fails: use the hardware reset, update firmware, then clear pairing data or perform a factory reset.
Sennheiser rates Bluetooth range at up to 10 m for most phones and Bluetooth devices when there is clear line of sight. Walls, furniture, people, other radio devices, and the source’s own antenna can reduce that distance.

Before changing settings: check power and the source
Give a fully discharged headset time to wake
Charge the MOMENTUM 4 before troubleshooting. If its battery has been completely depleted, the manual says the LED can remain dark for several minutes after the cable is connected. Leave it charging for at least 30 minutes if the LED still shows no immediate response, then try powering it on again. A headset that shuts down during pairing can appear to have a Bluetooth fault when it is actually out of charge.
Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on the source
Turn Bluetooth on for the phone, tablet, computer, game console, or television. Keep the source unlocked and on its Bluetooth settings page so you can see a new-device scan. Temporarily turn off Bluetooth on other nearby devices that have previously used the headphones; the MOMENTUM 4 attempts to connect to its last two connected devices when it starts. This is especially important if a family member’s phone is nearby and has been used with the headset.
Move the devices close together
For initial pairing, keep the headphones within about 20 cm of the source. Remove the source from a bag or desk drawer and test without a wall, monitor, metal cabinet, or other obstruction between it and the headset. Close-range testing gives you a reliable baseline before you diagnose a longer-distance dropout.

- Switch the headphones off.
- Place them within about 20 cm of the phone, tablet, computer, or other source.
- Press and hold the multi-function button for five seconds.
- Wait for the pairing indication, then open the source’s Bluetooth device list and choose MOMENTUM 4.
- Type
0000only if the source specifically asks for a PIN. Most modern Bluetooth menus will not request one. - Start playback or make a short test call before moving away from the source.
Pairing mode ends after two minutes if no connection is made. If the listing disappears, switch the headphones off and repeat the five-second procedure instead of leaving the Bluetooth screen open indefinitely. Do not select a similarly named device unless you have confirmed it is the headphones; a neighboring Bluetooth product can otherwise receive the connection attempt.
Understand the MOMENTUM 4 connection memory
The headphones store up to six Bluetooth connection profiles and try the last two connected devices at startup. A seventh pairing replaces the least-used saved profile. Consequently, an older phone or laptop can stop appearing as a familiar connection even though the headset itself is working; pair that source again. The six-profile limit is separate from the source device’s own list of remembered accessories.
Remove stale entries on the source
- Open the source device’s Bluetooth settings.
- Find every old MOMENTUM 4 entry, including duplicate or “LE” entries if your operating system displays them.
- Choose Forget, Remove device, or the equivalent command.
- Turn Bluetooth off, wait a few seconds, turn it back on, and search again.
- Put the headphones into the five-second pairing mode and select the newly discovered MOMENTUM 4 entry.
Do this first on the source that fails. It avoids erasing working pairings on all your other devices. If the missing source was the seventh device added, deleting an entry on the source will not restore the headset’s displaced profile by itself; you must complete a new pairing.
Rule out range, walls, and competing connections
Test at close range
With the source beside the headphones, play audio for several minutes. Then walk away gradually while keeping a clear line of sight. If the connection fails only at distance, the behavior is consistent with a range or obstruction problem rather than a pairing-memory fault.
Sennheiser describes the out-of-range behavior as an audible “Lost connection” announcement. Returning within range can allow the link to reconnect automatically. If it does not, stop playback, wait a few seconds, and select MOMENTUM 4 again in the source’s Bluetooth menu. A brief loss while walking behind several walls is not evidence that the headset needs a factory reset.
Reduce radio and physical interference
- Do not test through multiple walls, inside a closed bag, or beside large metal objects.
- Move away from crowded wireless equipment and temporarily disable nearby devices that are trying to connect to the headphones.
- On a computer, test with the source’s built-in Bluetooth rather than a second adapter, or test the adapter in a different USB position if its antenna is blocked by the case.
- For a television or computer with unreliable Bluetooth hardware, a compatible Bluetooth transmitter can improve the source side; it does not repair a defective MOMENTUM 4.
Compare the same headphones with a phone at close range. If the phone remains stable but the computer or television drops, concentrate on that source’s adapter, driver, Bluetooth service, or audio implementation instead of repeatedly resetting the headphones.
Perform the non-destructive hardware reset
Use this reset when the headphones are powered but their behavior is disturbed, buttons do not respond normally, or a connection remains stuck. It does not delete individual settings such as saved pairing settings.
- Keep the headphones powered on.
- Hold the multi-function button for approximately 20 seconds.
- Release it after the short confirmation sound.
- Wait for the headset to restart, then try the source again.
Sennheiser’s troubleshooting checklist also mentions a 15-second reset step, while the detailed reset instructions specify approximately 20 seconds. Treat the detailed 20-second timing as the operational instruction; do not assume that a separate, guaranteed 15-second reset mode exists. If the button hold produces no confirmation, charge the headset and repeat it rather than guessing at a different button combination.

Update firmware in Sennheiser Smart Control
Firmware updates address headset-side behavior and should be installed before erasing all connection data. The process is wireless over Bluetooth.
- Pair the MOMENTUM 4 with a smartphone that has the Sennheiser Smart Control app installed.
- Open Smart Control and allow it to connect to the headphones.
- Look for the firmware-update notification or update control in the app.
- Follow the app’s instructions until installation completes. Keep the phone and headphones close, and do not power either one off during the update.
- Afterward, test the existing connection. If it still fails, continue to the pairing-data steps below.
The app guides the installation and sends the firmware wirelessly through the Bluetooth connection. Keeping the headphones current is Sennheiser’s recommended practice for best performance. If the app cannot see the headset, first establish a normal phone pairing; firmware installation cannot be used as a substitute for pairing mode.
Delete pairing information or factory-reset the headphones
Delete the Bluetooth pairing list
Choose this when several old devices are stored, the headset connects to the wrong device, or re-pairing one source has not solved the problem. In Smart Control, open the headphones’ connection settings and use the control to delete Bluetooth pairing information. Then place the headset in pairing mode and pair each source you still use.
Deleting the list is more disruptive than forgetting one source but less comprehensive than restoring factory defaults. Before doing it, note the phones, computers, tablets, and televisions that need to be connected again.

Restore factory default settings
Use a factory reset only after the hardware reset and firmware update, or when the saved connection state is clearly corrupted. Connect the headphones in Smart Control, open the device settings, and select Factory default settings. Confirm the operation in the app.
A factory reset removes pairing settings. It is normal for every phone, computer, tablet, and television to require pairing again afterward. Keep a list of the sources you need before starting so you can restore them in an orderly way. Do not factory-reset simply because a connection drops at the far end of a room; check the documented range first.
Fixes for a computer, television, or phone that still refuses to connect
Windows or macOS computer
- Forget the MOMENTUM 4 entry and add it again after the five-second pairing procedure.
- Disconnect other Bluetooth audio devices temporarily so the computer does not select a different output.
- Check that MOMENTUM 4 is selected as the active output device after pairing; a successful Bluetooth connection does not always switch audio automatically.
- Restart the computer after removing a corrupted entry. If the computer uses a separate Bluetooth adapter, verify that its driver and operating-system Bluetooth service are functioning.
- If a Windows driver appears to be the cause, use the computer maker’s or adapter maker’s supported driver tools first. Third-party driver utilities are optional and are not endorsed by Sennheiser.
Phone or tablet
- Toggle Bluetooth off and on, then retry with the phone next to the headphones.
- Remove duplicate MOMENTUM 4 entries before searching again.
- Check whether another phone or tablet nearby is one of the headset’s last two connected devices; disable Bluetooth on that device during setup.
- After a factory reset, pair the phone as a new device rather than tapping an obsolete saved entry.
Television or other source with limited Bluetooth controls
- Delete the television’s old MOMENTUM 4 record if its menu offers that option.
- Keep the headset within clear line of sight while testing.
- If the television’s Bluetooth implementation is weak or lacks a reliable audio profile, consider a compatible transmitter such as Sennheiser’s BTD 600. This addresses the source’s Bluetooth capability, not a fault inside the headphones.
Use the symptom to choose the next step
| What you observe | Most likely area | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| MOMENTUM 4 never appears in a scan | Pairing mode, stale source entry, or another device taking the connection | Forget old entries, disable nearby Bluetooth devices, then hold the multi-function button for five seconds |
| It connects beside the source but drops across a room | Range or obstacles | Test with clear line of sight; Sennheiser’s favorable-condition figure is up to 10 m |
| Several sources fail after normal use | Headset state or firmware | Apply the approximately 20-second hardware reset, then update in Smart Control |
| Only one old device disappeared | Six-profile memory limit | Pair that device again; a seventh pairing can replace the least-used profile |
| Nothing works after firmware and reset | Persistent software or hardware fault | Delete pairing data, factory-reset, and escalate if the fault remains |
Accessories and replacement choices
If the headset itself works with a phone but a particular source does not, a source accessory may be more appropriate than replacing the headphones. Sennheiser lists the BTD 600 Bluetooth transmitter among MOMENTUM 4 accessories for computers, televisions, and other sources with poor or limited Bluetooth. Confirm that the transmitter supports your source and audio setup; it improves the source side and does not fix a damaged headset radio.
For worn physical parts, Sennheiser documents MOMENTUM 4 replacement ear pads and their replacement procedure. Ear pads address comfort and wear, not pairing dropouts. If you are considering replacement headphones, verify the exact model is “Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless headphones,” along with regional warranty and repair availability.
When to contact support
Contact a Sonova Consumer Hearing partner if the MOMENTUM 4 still will not pair with any source after the hardware reset, current firmware, and factory reset. Also seek service for suspected battery defects, failure to charge after the charging check, physical damage, or a headset that repeatedly shuts down despite adequate charge.
Have the purchase region, serial information, source devices tested, and the steps already completed ready for the support representative. Warranty and authorized-repair availability depend on your country, so use the partner serving your region. There is no single worldwide repair price: any service or battery cost depends on the regional authorized provider and warranty status. Avoid unverified battery work when the headset may still be covered.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why won’t my Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 connect?
Turn the headphones off, hold the multi-function button for five seconds within about 20 cm of the source, select MOMENTUM 4, and enter 0000 only if requested. If it still fails, forget old entries, disable nearby previously paired devices, check charge and range, then perform the approximately 20-second hardware reset.

Why does my MOMENTUM 4 keep disconnecting?
Test beside the source first. Sennheiser documents up to 10 m with clear line of sight; walls and other conditions reduce that distance. Returning to range may reconnect automatically. If drops occur at close range on several sources, update firmware and continue through the reset sequence.
Why is MOMENTUM 4 not showing in Bluetooth?
Make sure the headphones are off before holding the multi-function button for five seconds. Pairing mode lasts two minutes. Forget stale MOMENTUM 4 entries, turn off Bluetooth on nearby devices that used the headset, and search again at close range.
How do I reset MOMENTUM 4 pairing?
For a clean re-pair, use Smart Control’s connection settings to delete Bluetooth pairing information, then pair each source again. A factory-default reset in Smart Control also removes pairing settings and requires every source to be paired again.
Does the 20-second hardware reset erase my pairings?
No. The approximately 20-second hardware reset is non-destructive and preserves individual settings such as pairing settings. Pairing-list deletion and factory reset are the destructive steps.
Is the reset 15 seconds or 20 seconds?
The detailed reset instruction specifies approximately 20 seconds and a short confirmation sound. Use that as the operational timing; do not treat the checklist’s 15-second mention as a separate guaranteed reset mode.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How many devices can MOMENTUM 4 remember?
It stores up to six Bluetooth profiles and tries the last two connected devices when starting. Pairing a seventh device can overwrite the least-used profile, so an older source may need to be paired again.
Will a factory reset fix every Bluetooth dropout?
Not necessarily. A factory reset helps when saved connection data is corrupted, but it cannot correct walls, out-of-range use, a failing source adapter, or defective hardware. Check power, source settings, close-range behavior, firmware, and the non-destructive reset first.
Should I buy a BTD 600 to fix MOMENTUM 4?
Only when the computer, television, or other source has poor Bluetooth capability. BTD 600 is a source-side transmitter; it does not repair a defective MOMENTUM 4 or replace the need for correct pairing.
When should I request authorized repair?
Escalate to a Sonova Consumer Hearing partner after reset, firmware update, and factory reset fail across sources, or sooner for suspected battery defects, charging failure, physical damage, or repeated shutdowns. Warranty and service availability vary by region.

The Bottom Line
Start with charge, close-range pairing, and stale-entry cleanup. Then test range and competing connections, perform the approximately 20-second hardware reset, update firmware in Smart Control, and only afterward delete pairing data or restore factory defaults. If every source still fails, use a regional Sonova Consumer Hearing partner rather than guessing at unsupported repairs.
