To search an image on a Samsung Galaxy, use Circle to Search when the picture or object is already on your screen; use Bixby Vision to look for similar images from a saved Gallery photo, where that feature is available. The two tools have different device requirements and controls, so the right method depends on where the image is.
Choose the method that matches where the image is
| What you want to search | Starting point | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|
| An object in an app, video, webpage, or camera view | Circle to Search | Available only on select Galaxy devices and software versions; requires internet and may be blocked in apps that restrict screen capture. |
| A photo already saved in Gallery | Bixby Vision, if your device offers it | The documented Gallery steps are in Samsung’s Galaxy S23-series manual; controls and results vary by region, carrier, and image characteristics. |
These are separate workflows, not a universal ranking. Samsung documents Circle to Search for supported devices and Bixby Vision’s saved-image search in a specific model-series manual.
Search something currently on your screen with Circle to Search
Circle to Search lets you select an object or area without first leaving the compatible app. You can circle, tap, or highlight the item and review the resulting search information. Examples include identifying a dog in a photo or finding where a jacket is sold.

Samsung describes Circle to Search on select Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 14 with One UI 6.1 or later. That baseline does not mean every device running those versions is eligible. On a supported device, check Settings > Display > Navigation bar for the Circle to Search control. Samsung’s US support guide and Canada support guide describe the feature and setup.

Use Circle to Search
- Update your device and confirm that Circle to Search is available in the navigation-bar settings.
- Open the screen containing the object you want to look up. For a camera search, open Camera and point the phone at the subject before activating the feature.
- Activate Circle to Search by pressing and holding the Home icon in three-button navigation, or the navigation handle in gesture navigation.
- If prompted on first use, complete setup or grant the requested permissions.
- Circle, tap, or highlight the object or area. Use a finger, or a compatible S Pen on a device that supports it, then inspect the search results.
Circle to Search requires an internet connection. Samsung Canada also states that a Google account is required. The feature may not work in apps that prevent screen capture.
If Circle to Search is missing or unavailable
- Look for it under Settings > Display > Navigation bar; availability depends on the device and software.
- If Samsung says the feature is unavailable because of settings, check Settings > Apps > Choose default apps > Digital assistant app and enable Analyze on-screen images, if that option is present.
- Menu names can differ by software version. If the option is absent after checking, your device may not be eligible or the feature may not be available in its current configuration.
- If it works on some screens but not others, the app may restrict screen capture.
Search for similar images from a saved Gallery photo
Samsung’s Galaxy S23-series user manual describes opening an image in Gallery and tapping the Bixby Vision control. Its Discover function searches for similar images online and related information. The manual also documents Bixby Vision in Camera, and in Samsung Internet by touching and holding an image and choosing Search with Bixby Vision.

Those Gallery steps are documented for the Galaxy S23 series, not as a universal path for every Galaxy. Check your device for equivalent controls. Samsung notes that functions and results may vary by region or carrier, and that an image’s size, format, or resolution can affect availability or correctness. See the Galaxy S23-series manual.
What multi-object image search can do
In an announcement dated February 25, 2026, Google said multi-object search in Circle to Search was available on the Samsung Galaxy S26 series and Pixel 10 devices, with more Android devices to follow. Google’s example is circling an outfit to find its clothing, accessories, and shoes together. That announcement does not establish availability on every Galaxy device; check your device for the feature. Google also says virtual try-on is limited to countries where Google shopping listings already support that experience and to select devices. Availability can change as the rollout expands. Google’s announcement is by Harsh Kharbanda, Director, Product Management, Search.
