Seaopolis: Submerged 4.1 is an underwater survival and questing modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. Install the official CurseForge profile, launch it once, and use the matching Seaopolis- Submerged-4.1_server_pack.zip when creating a multiplayer server. Every client and the server must use the same pack release, Minecraft version, and Forge loader.

Seaopolis: Submerged is an ocean-based survival questing pack by benbenlaw. Its official description calls it “an ocean based survival questing modpack” and presents a customized underwater world rather than a normal overworld start. The project is categorized as skyblock, quests, tech, exploration, and multiplayer, so it combines constrained survival with guided progression, automation, discovery, and cooperative play.

An underwater starting point
You begin in a room beneath the sea. That changes the early game from ordinary surface survival: safe movement, access to air, water management, and finding workable space are immediate concerns. The pack is designed around building and progressing in that environment instead of treating the ocean as scenery around a conventional base.
Questing and progression
Quests provide the progression structure. The official description says the world includes mobs and structures and that progression eventually reaches the Nether. Your route therefore has two parts: completing the guided stages and expanding the resources, technology, and exploration options available to your base.

Technology and building tools
Named components include Thermal Series, Opolis Utilities, and Strainers. The pack also includes Roomopolis, a custom mod intended to make underwater room construction easier. The point of Roomopolis is practical: the project description specifically identifies underwater building as a major difficulty and presents the mod as a way to create rooms more easily under the ocean.
Current release, Minecraft version, and loader
The current files listing identifies release 4.1 as the target for new installations. The client and server files were uploaded on August 31, 2026, and both target Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge.

Older files remain visible on the project page, which makes it easy to select the wrong profile accidentally. Read the complete filename and verify the Minecraft and Forge values before installing. A server that runs 4.1 will not be made compatible merely by changing its folder name or copying an older client configuration.

What you need before installing
- A launcher that can import CurseForge modpacks. The documented route is the CurseForge app.
- A Minecraft installation that can run Forge 1.20.1.
- The same Seaopolis: Submerged release for all clients and, if applicable, the dedicated server.
- Enough free storage for the modpack files, configuration, and generated world. The project materials do not state a universal disk-size requirement.
- For a server, permission to run the Forge server process and to accept Mojang’s EULA through the normal server setup.
No universal RAM flag, Java runtime version, or control-panel procedure is published for this pack in the available project information. Those values vary by host and installation method. Use the current documentation for the launcher or hosting service you choose rather than copying a memory or Java setting from an unrelated pack.
Install the client with CurseForge
- Install a compatible launcher. Install the CurseForge app, or another launcher that explicitly supports importing CurseForge modpacks. Sign in if that launcher requires an account.
- Find the official project. Search for Seaopolis: Submerged and select the project by benbenlaw. Check the author and title so you do not install a similarly named pack.
- Select release 4.1. Choose the profile for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge. If you are joining an existing server, select the server’s exact release instead of automatically choosing the newest file.
- Install the profile. Let the launcher download the pack and create its instance. Do not manually replace individual mods while the launcher is still creating the profile.
- Launch once. Start the profile and allow Minecraft to reach the title screen. This first run creates configuration files and confirms that the launcher can load the Forge instance.
- Check the instance before joining. In the launcher’s profile details, verify the displayed Minecraft version, Forge loader, and Seaopolis release. If the profile shows a different release from the server, stop and correct it before attempting to connect.
Is Seaopolis: Submerged on Modrinth?
The independent setup guide reports that this pack is not on Modrinth and identifies CurseForge as the installation route. If a third-party launcher offers an import option, use the official CurseForge project and its exact file version as the reference; do not assume that a similarly titled Modrinth entry is the same pack.
Set up a Seaopolis: Submerged server
The project publishes a dedicated server pack, so multiplayer is an intended use case. The safest setup is to treat the server ZIP and client ZIP as a matched pair.

- Choose the release first. For a new installation, obtain the 4.1 server pack and record that the server will run Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. If you are migrating an existing world, identify its current pack version before downloading anything.
- Download the matching server ZIP. Use
Seaopolis- Submerged-4.1_server_pack.zipfor a 4.1 server. Do not substitute the client ZIP; a client profile and a dedicated-server pack serve different purposes. - Prepare a clean server directory. Extract the server pack into its own directory with the permissions needed by your operating system or hosting panel. Keeping each pack version in a separate directory makes rollback and backups safer.
- Install or select Forge 1.20.1. The server must use the Forge loader targeted by the pack. Follow the startup instructions supplied with the server pack or your host’s current Forge documentation rather than guessing a filename or command.
- Start the server once. Run the supplied Forge server startup process. The first launch normally creates or validates the files the server needs; watch the console for the point at which it stops because the EULA has not been accepted.
- Accept the EULA as required by Mojang’s server process. Read the EULA and complete the normal acceptance step in the server directory. Restart the server using the same Forge startup process.
- Wait for a complete startup. Do not connect while the world and mod list are still loading. A successful startup should leave the server process running without a fatal mod-loading error.
- Install the client profile for every player. Each player should install the 4.1 Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge profile through CurseForge or a compatible importer. A vanilla client, a different Forge build, or a different Seaopolis release is not an equivalent client.
- Connect from Minecraft. Open the Multiplayer screen, add the server address supplied by the host or administrator, and join after the server reports that it is ready. Keep the address private if the server is not intended to be public.
Using a hosted server
A managed host can simplify installation, automatic restarts, permissions, and backups, but support is not universal. Before paying for a plan, verify that the provider currently supports Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge, allows installation of a custom server pack, and documents how to upload or select the Seaopolis files. The available project information does not verify a particular provider, price, performance level, affiliate arrangement, or endorsement.
Ask the host specifically how it handles the Forge startup process, world backups, file uploads, and changing modpack versions. If the answer assumes a vanilla or Fabric server, it is not a suitable procedure for this pack.
How multiplayer compatibility works
The dedicated server pack establishes the server-side mod and configuration set, while each player’s client supplies the matching client-side files. Multiplayer is reliable only when the two sides agree on the pack release, Minecraft version, Forge loader, and relevant configuration.

- Use 4.1 on the server and 4.1 on every client when starting a new 4.1 world.
- Do not let one player “update only a few mods” inside the profile. A manually altered mod list can produce recipe, registry, or connection errors even when the headline version looks correct.
- Keep a backup before changing the server pack or opening an existing world with a newer release.
- Give players the exact release number and loader in your server instructions so they do not install the wrong older file.
Troubleshoot by identifying the installed version first
Features and recipes changed between releases. The official B3.0 changelog, for example, records additions including FTB Chunks, FTB Essentials, Polymorph, Polymorphic Energistics, Visual Workbenches, Packet Fixer, and Pipez. It also records extra Curios slots and Water Curio, which lets a player remain in water without always wearing a diving suit. Those changes are why a fix that applies to B3.0 may be irrelevant or wrong for 4.1.

A repeatable version check
- Read the client instance name and file version in the launcher.
- Read the server pack filename in the server directory or download history.
- Confirm that both identify Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Confirm that both use Forge rather than a different loader.
- Compare the server’s mod and configuration files with a fresh copy of the same official server pack if the mismatch persists.
If all five checks pass and the problem remains, collect the client and server logs and ask for help through the project’s official support channel. Describe the exact pack release and loader; “Seaopolis does not work” is not enough information to distinguish a version problem from a world or host problem.

Survival pressure
The underwater start makes base design part of survival. You must think about where rooms can be built, how you move between them, and how you maintain safe working areas. This is a different decision pattern from a surface skyblock pack, where the main constraint is usually platform space rather than an ocean surrounding every build.

Automation
Thermal Series, Opolis Utilities, and Strainers provide the technology-oriented side of the pack. Expect the quest path to move from basic survival tasks toward processing and automation, but do not assume that a guide written for another Seaopolis release has identical recipes or unlock order.
Exploration
The customized world includes mobs and structures, and the progression extends into the Nether. Exploration therefore supplements automation: the resources and encounters available away from the starting room are part of the intended advancement rather than optional decoration.
Underwater construction
Roomopolis is the pack’s custom response to the difficulty of building rooms underwater. Its presence signals that constructing a usable base is a central activity, not merely a cosmetic challenge. Plan your first rooms around access and expansion so that later technology does not require dismantling the entire starting area.

Updating an existing world safely
- Record the current client and server release, Minecraft version, Forge loader, and any administrator changes.
- Stop the server cleanly and make a complete backup of the world, configuration, and server files.
- Read the target release information and confirm that a matching client and server pack exist.
- Test the update in a separate copy of the world before replacing the live installation.
- Install the same target release on the server and every client. Do not update only the server or only one player’s profile.
- Keep the old backup and old server directory until the group has verified quests, recipes, spawn behavior, and important bases.
Because the visible files include multiple 4.x, 3.x, and B-series releases, assume that version changes can affect recipes, quests, and mod behavior. The pack’s changelog history demonstrates that its contents are not static.
Project size and download-count context
The project page displayed 677,601 total downloads, while the files page displayed 680,005, both accessed October 15, 2026. These are volatile counters shown by CurseForge at that time, not a stable measure of active players, server population, or quality. They are useful only as a snapshot that the project has substantial public distribution.
