Yes. You can stop an active screen-mirroring session, and some devices let you limit automatic connections or revoke a device’s access. The exact control depends on whether you are using AirPlay, iPhone Mirroring, Google Cast, Windows wireless projection, or Samsung Smart View; there is no single switch that disables them all.
First identify the feature and your goal
Before changing settings, identify the sending device, the receiving screen, and the feature name shown on the device. “Screen mirroring” can refer to several different connection types, and stopping a session is not the same as preventing future connections or changing who can control playback.
- Stop a current session: end the connection that is active now.
- Limit automatic connections: change whether a device connects or prompts automatically.
- Revoke access: remove a previously configured device’s permission to connect.
- Restrict playback controls: prevent other people on the same Wi-Fi network from controlling cast media without necessarily ending the cast.
Stop AirPlay screen mirroring on an iPhone or iPad
- Open Control Center. On newer iPhone and iPad models, swipe down from the upper-right corner; on some older models, swipe up from the bottom edge.
- Tap Screen Mirroring.
- Tap Stop Mirroring.
Apple’s AirPlay instructions give this same stop sequence. It ends the current mirroring session; it does not turn off every form of screen sharing on the device.
Change automatic AirPlay behavior
To change how the iPhone or iPad handles nearby AirPlay devices, go to Settings > General > AirPlay & Continuity > Automatically AirPlay. Choose Never, Ask, or Automatic. Never means you must choose a device manually; it changes automatic connection behavior rather than disabling all manual AirPlay use. Menu wording can vary by software version.

Stop or revoke access to iPhone Mirroring on a Mac
iPhone Mirroring is Apple’s interactive Mac feature for working with an iPhone and its apps. It is separate from AirPlay screen mirroring.
End the current session
Quit the iPhone Mirroring app on the Mac, or unlock the iPhone. Apple’s iPhone Mirroring guidance lists supported operating-system versions, the same Apple Account with two-factor authentication, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and a nearby locked iPhone among the prerequisites. The cited Apple page says the feature is unavailable in the European Union; check the current page for any availability changes.

Remove a Mac’s configured access
To prevent a particular Mac from using its configured access, use one of Apple’s documented removal controls:

- On the iPhone, open Settings > General > AirPlay & Continuity > iPhone Mirroring, select the Mac, and remove it.
- In the iPhone Mirroring app settings on the Mac, choose Revoke Access to the iPhone.
These actions revoke configured access; they do more than close the session that is currently open. See Apple’s safety and access guidance for details.

Manage Google Cast controls
Google’s cited Cast media-control guidance covers notifications and who can control cast media, not a universal way to stop a casting session. To end casting, use the Cast control in the app or device interface that started it.
If your goal is to stop other people on the same Wi-Fi network from controlling cast media, turn off Let others control your cast media on the streaming device. Google also documents disabling Cast media controls on an Android phone. Dismissing a control notification only hides it temporarily; it is not the same as ending the cast.

Disconnect Samsung Smart View
For a Samsung phone connected through Smart View, tap the Smart View icon on the phone, then tap Disconnect. Samsung’s Smart View instructions are specific to that feature. Some TVs may also require a change of input or a screen-mirroring setting to connect; those setup details do not change the phone’s disconnect steps.
Windows wireless projection: what the documented controls cover
Microsoft’s projection guidance documents connecting a Windows 11 PC to a Miracast display with Windows+K and configuring a Windows PC as a receiver in Settings > System > Projecting to this PC. It does not establish a single disconnect shortcut for every active projection session, so use the controls shown by the connected PC or display rather than relying on an unverified universal key sequence.

If mirroring keeps returning
- Check whether you stopped the active session or only dismissed a notification.
- Confirm the feature name: AirPlay, iPhone Mirroring, Cast, Miracast projection, and Smart View have different controls.
- If the connection is automatic, look for that feature’s automatic-connection setting rather than a session stop command.
- If a previously trusted device reconnects, look for a device-specific removal or revoke-access option where the platform provides one.
- Check the sender as well as the receiver. A receiving TV or PC may have its own connection or input controls.
