To check SCCM client push installation status, start with Configuration Manager’s client deployment and assignment reports. Use CCM.log on the site server and CCMSetup.log on the target to diagnose a specific failure. Microsoft documents SQL status and alert views, but the available documentation does not establish a universal client-push status query or a canonical mapping of SQL values to push success and failure.

How to check SCCM client push status

  1. Start or confirm the push. Client push can run automatically for discovered computers when configured, or you can initiate it for selected devices or collections with the Client Push Installation Wizard. See Microsoft’s client deployment guidance.
  2. Track deployment progress in the console. Use the client deployment and assignment reports to review installation progress.
  3. Investigate a device that is not installing. Check CCM.log on the site server for connection problems, then inspect CCMSetup.log on the client for installation activity and errors.

These sources answer different questions: reports help track deployment progress, while logs provide the detail needed to understand what happened on an individual target.

Is there a supported client push status SQL query?

Microsoft’s Configuration Manager status and alert views reference documents SQL views that include status-message timing information. That documentation does not establish a client-push-specific status view, a universal query, or an official mapping that labels query results as push success or failure.

For that reason, avoid treating an unverified query found online as a canonical ConfigMgr report. SQL results depend on the views and schema in the installed release, and status-based reporting depends on relevant status messages being sent and processed. A query can be useful for custom reporting only when its provenance, tested Configuration Manager version, returned states, and limitations are understood and validated against the target site’s supported views.

Reports, SQL, and logs: which should you use?

Method Best use Important limitation
Client deployment and assignment reports Review installation progress through the Configuration Manager console. They report progress; use device logs to investigate the cause of an individual failure.
SQL status and alert views Build custom reporting from documented status and alert data. The Microsoft view reference does not define a universal client-push query or push-state mapping; status-message reporting depends on message data.
CCM.log and CCMSetup.log Diagnose an individual push: site-server connection activity and client installation activity, respectively. These are device-level troubleshooting logs, not a fleet progress report.

Why did the ConfigMgr client push fail?

Check prerequisites before assuming a reported status indicates a SQL problem. Microsoft specifies that a configured client push installation account must have local administrator rights on the target computer. Review the deployment guidance for the relevant requirements, then use CCM.log to identify connection issues and CCMSetup.log to inspect client-side installation activity.

For broader client health context after installation, Microsoft also documents Configuration Manager client health checks. Health checks can inform client-health troubleshooting, but they do not replace the push logs when diagnosing how an installation attempt failed.

When to use a custom query

  • Use console reports when the immediate need is supported progress tracking.
  • Use the documented SQL views as the starting point for custom status reporting, and verify view availability and meaning against the installed Configuration Manager release.
  • Use the site-server and client logs when you need to explain a particular device’s failed or stalled installation.
