Wondering what parts of your infrastructure are accidentally visible to the internet? Scan only systems you own or are authorized to assess, then compare reachable services with what you expect to be public. A listening port is a reason to investigate—not proof of a vulnerability. Confirm who owns the asset and whether the exposure is needed before changing it.
What ScanSearch can reveal
ScanSearch describes its on-demand scanner as performing live SYN scans and service detection. Its homepage says it can scan IP addresses, CIDR ranges, ASNs, countries, domains, and uploaded target lists, and return open ports, service banners, software versions, TLS details, and CVE matches. These are ScanSearch’s descriptions of its service, not independent test results. Check the ScanSearch homepage for current free-tier limits and paid-plan terms; those details can change.
ScanSearch also describes a separate external attack surface management (EASM) product for continuous asset discovery and rescanning of registered domains, ASNs, or netblocks. Its product page lists subdomains, IPs, cloud resources, certificates, ports, services, software fingerprints, security headers, CVE exposure, and changes between scans. Scan cadence and email or webhook alerts depend on plan, so check the current EASM plan details rather than assuming a particular refresh interval.

Confirm authorization and scope
Scan only infrastructure you own or have explicit permission to assess. For networks owned by someone else, ScanSearch’s guide recommends written authorization and a clearly defined scope. Record the approved domains, IP ranges, ports, scan types, timing, and any rate limits before starting. See the ScanSearch scanning guide.
-
Write down what should be public
Make a baseline inventory of expected public hosts, applications, ports, and responsible owners. This practical step gives you something to compare scan results against, helping distinguish required services from forgotten development systems or accidental exposures.

Scan only the authorized targets
Select targets and a port range within the approved scope. ScanSearch’s guide describes results that can include open ports, service versions, CVE matches, TLS details, and HTTP headers. Treat a detected version or vulnerability match as a lead to validate: a banner may not establish the software actually running, and a match alone does not prove exploitability.
-
Triage each result
For every reachable service, identify the asset owner and ask whether it is meant to be accessible from the internet. Check whether authentication and network restrictions are appropriate, whether the software is maintained, and whether the result is current. Reachability is an exposure to review, not automatically a security flaw.

Remove, restrict, or secure the service
If public access is unnecessary, disable or remove the service, or restrict access with your organization’s network controls. If it must remain public, patch outdated software, review its configuration, and limit access to intended users. Confirm ownership and business need before making a change so you do not interrupt a required service.

-
Rescan and monitor changes
Rescan the authorized target after remediation to check whether the port or service is still reachable. For recurring checks, ScanSearch says its EASM product tracks changes; the actual cadence and alert options vary by plan. Review the current EASM details before relying on it for ongoing monitoring.
What an external scan cannot establish
The UK National Cyber Security Centre explains that infrastructure scanners can discover accessible services, fingerprint software, and compare service details with vulnerability knowledge libraries. It also cautions that these tools tend to favor breadth over depth: they may identify outdated software or weak encryption, but generally do not navigate complex web applications or find vulnerabilities that require specialized interactions. Read the NCSC guidance on infrastructure scanners.

- 【Up to 1100 Mbps VPN Speed 】 Hardware-accelerated WireGuard and OpenVPN-DCO deliver up to 1100 Mbps VPN throughput, over 3× faster than Brume 2 for smooth remote access and file transfers.
- 【Three 2.5G Ports & Multi-WAN】Tri-port 2.5GbE design with flexible WAN LAN configuration supports multi-gigabit wired setups, dual-ISP Multi-WAN and failover to keep home and SOHO networks online.
- 【Stealth VPN Obfuscation】VPN obfuscation disguises VPN traffic as regular HTTPS, helping you evade blocking, bypass restrictive networks and maintain stable, private connections.
- 【DPI protection】Deep Packet Inspection with visual dashboards blocks adult/gambling/malicious sites, while SQM and QoS prioritize gaming, calls, and video when bandwidth is tight
- 【OpenWrt & USB 3.0 Expansion】OpenWrt with 1GB DDR4 and 8GB eMMC lets you install plugins and build VPN, ad-blocking or NAS, while USB 3.0 Type‑C connects high-speed storage or 4G/5G dongles
If custom web applications are in scope, pair network discovery with appropriate application security testing. An external port scan is not a complete security assessment, and a clean result does not establish that an application or system is secure.

Choosing a scanning approach
A one-time scan can help establish what is reachable now; recurring discovery can help surface newly exposed assets or changes. ScanSearch’s official API documentation describes launching scans programmatically, polling their status, and retrieving results, and identifies a Python SDK and CLI. For integrations, use the official ScanSearch API documentation; it supersedes older community material that says official API documentation is unavailable.

Google Cloud Security Command Center’s External Exposure feature is one cloud-native comparison point. Its documentation lists supported cloud resources and a predefined set of common ports, with custom-port configuration and coverage limitations. When deciding between a dedicated external scanner and a cloud-provider feature, compare the assets covered, supported ports, scan freshness, change monitoring, integration needs, and whether you must include infrastructure outside that cloud. See Google Cloud’s External Exposure documentation.
