Choose the Saucony Hurricane 26 first if you want the brand’s maximum cushioning, a high protective platform, and a shoe intended for comfortable daily training or walking. Choose the Saucony Guide 18 if you prefer a lower stack, PWRRUN cushioning, and Saucony’s CenterPath guidance geometry for everyday movement. Both list a 6 mm offset, but that shared number does not make their rides equivalent. Your preferred cushioning feel, fit, width, running habits, and local price should decide the final purchase; neither shoe is a medical treatment or a guaranteed way to prevent injury.
Hurricane 26 vs. Guide 18 at a glance
The two shoes occupy different points in Saucony’s stability-oriented range. The Hurricane 26 builds around maximum cushioning and a tall platform. The Guide 18 is a lower-stack daily trainer whose broad base and CenterPath geometry are designed to guide the foot through a smooth roll.
| Attribute | Saucony Hurricane 26 | Saucony Guide 18 |
|---|---|---|
| Best starting point for | Runners and walkers who prioritize maximum softness, impact absorption, and a high, protective platform | Daily training and movement with a lower stack and CenterPath guidance |

| Published weight figures | 232 g on Saucony’s UK listing; Tom’s Guide reports 9.7 oz for its US men’s size 10 reviewer sample | Men’s 9.7 oz (272 g); women’s 8.6 oz (245 g) |
| Width information | Wide width availability is shown in Saucony’s buyer guide and product listings | An official Guide 18 Wide listing appears in Saucony UK results; stock and colors vary |
| Price evidence | Tom’s Guide reports a $170 US and £170 UK launch price in its October 2026 review | No comparable current price is established by the cited official page |
The specifications come from different regions and sizing conventions. Treat the weight figures as separate references, not as a controlled head-to-head test.

Saucony positions the Hurricane 26 as its max-cushion option, with broad-based comfort for daily training and walking. The UK product material lists a 41 mm heel, a 35 mm forefoot, and a 6 mm offset. That produces a 6 mm heel-to-toe difference while placing substantially more material under the foot than the Guide 18.

The cushioning construction combines an IncrediLUX core with a PWRRUN frame, according to Saucony’s product information. An independent Tom’s Guide reviewer described the updated foam as softer and springier after 35 miles, but that is one reviewer’s experience rather than a laboratory measurement or a promise that every runner will feel the same change.
The high platform is the main reason to investigate the Hurricane 26. It gives the shoe a pronounced protective profile for easy miles, longer outings at comfortable paces, and walking when underfoot cushioning matters more than a close-to-the-ground feel. The extra height can also change how stable or agile the shoe feels to you, so a try-on remains valuable even if the specifications look right.
What the Guide 18 changes
The Guide 18 uses a 35 mm heel and 29 mm forefoot, again with a 6 mm offset. It therefore has 6 mm less material at both measured ends than the Hurricane 26. Saucony lists a PWRRUN midsole and a PWRRUN+ sockliner rather than the Hurricane’s IncrediLUX-and-frame arrangement.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIts defining feature is CenterPath geometry. Saucony describes a broad base and higher sidewalls that cradle the foot and encourage a smooth roll. The company’s product page says, The Guide 18 elevates comfort to new heights with enhanced PWRRUN cushioning, providing more protection than ever before.
That is manufacturer positioning: it explains the intended design, not a clinically demonstrated outcome.
For a runner who wants guidance without the tallest possible platform, the Guide 18 is the logical shoe to try first. Its lower stack may feel more connected to the ground than the Hurricane, although perceived ground contact and firmness depend on your weight, pace, gait, socks, and the surface you run on.

Which is softer: the Hurricane 26 or Guide 18?
The Hurricane 26 is the stronger candidate if “soft” means the greatest amount of cushioning underfoot. Its listed stack is 41/35 mm versus 35/29 mm for the Guide 18, and Saucony explicitly markets it as a max-cushion shoe. The IncrediLUX core is also a different cushioning element from the Guide’s PWRRUN midsole and PWRRUN+ sockliner.
That does not establish a universal softness ranking. Foam feel changes with temperature, pace, runner weight, and break-in time. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer reported a softer, springier Hurricane ride after 35 miles, but that observation should be read as an individual review impression. If you dislike a deeply cushioned or tall shoe, the Guide’s lower platform may be more comfortable even if it is not objectively “softer.”

How their stability and guidance differ
Hurricane 26: a broad, protective platform
Saucony’s buyer material describes the Hurricane 26 as a broad-comfort, max-cushion model for daily training and walking. The product page also describes it as a max-cushion shoe designed for runners who prioritize comfort, protection, and fatigue-free movement. Those are design and marketing statements, not evidence that it corrects pronation or prevents an injury.
Guide 18: CenterPath guidance
The Guide 18’s CenterPath system uses a broad base and raised sidewalls to cradle the foot and guide the transition through the stride. That geometry is the reason to consider it when you want a more structured daily trainer. It does not diagnose a foot condition, and a shoe should not be selected as a substitute for advice from a qualified clinician about pain or an injury.
Both models can be considered by runners seeking a stability-oriented daily shoe, but “stability” is not a guarantee of a particular correction. The practical question is whether the shoe feels centered, secure, and comfortable for your stride.

Fit, width, and upper comfort
Fit can outweigh a small specification difference. Start with your usual running-shoe size, then check whether your longest toe has usable room, your heel stays seated without pressure, and the midfoot feels held rather than squeezed. Run or walk in both shoes if a retailer permits it; a few minutes of standing is not enough to reveal forefoot pressure or heel movement.
Saucony’s buyer guide and Hurricane listings show wide-width availability. That makes the Hurricane worth investigating if standard shoes compress your forefoot. An official Guide 18 Wide listing appears in Saucony UK search results, but the available sizes, colors, and stock can change by country. Confirm the exact width and return policy on the local product page before ordering.
Do not infer that a wide version has the same fit as the regular version with extra room everywhere. Width changes can alter how the upper holds the midfoot and how the platform feels under the outside of your foot. Try the specific width you intend to buy, with the socks you normally run in.
Weight: why the published numbers are not a simple winner
The Hurricane 26 has conflicting-looking published figures because they describe different references. Saucony’s UK page lists 232 g, while Tom’s Guide reports 9.7 oz for its reviewer’s US men’s size 10. The Guide 18 listing gives 9.7 oz (272 g) for men’s shoes and 8.6 oz (245 g) for women’s shoes.
| Model | Published figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Hurricane 26 | 232 g on Saucony UK | Regional product-listing figure; the cited page does not establish the same size and gender basis as the review sample |
| Hurricane 26 | 9.7 oz | Tom’s Guide reviewer’s US men’s size 10 |
| Guide 18 | 9.7 oz / 272 g | Saucony’s men’s figure |
| Guide 18 | 8.6 oz / 245 g | Saucony’s women’s figure |
Because size, gender, and region are not controlled, the evidence does not support saying one model is lighter. If weight is a deciding factor, compare the same gender and size from one consistent source.

Which shoe suits different running and walking patterns?
Choose the Hurricane 26 as your first trial when cushioning is the priority
- You want Saucony’s maximum-cushion design rather than a lower daily trainer.
- You spend many sessions at easy or moderate effort and value a protective, high platform.
- You also want a shoe for comfortable walking, not only running.
- You prefer a softer, more substantial ride and do not mind a taller shoe.
These are use-case matches, not guarantees about pace, distance, or injury risk. A high-stack shoe can feel secure to one runner and cumbersome to another.
Choose the Guide 18 as your first trial when guidance and a lower profile matter
- You want a daily trainer with PWRRUN cushioning and CenterPath geometry.
- You prefer 35/29 mm of listed stack over the Hurricane’s 41/35 mm.
- You want a broad base and higher sidewalls that cradle the foot through the roll.
- You find very tall max-cushion shoes unstable, bulky, or disconnected from the ground.
The Guide 18 is not automatically the better choice for short runs, fast runs, or a particular foot shape. Those decisions depend on how the shoe fits and moves with you.
Price and availability: what can actually be compared
Tom’s Guide reported a US launch price of $170 and a UK launch price of £170 for the Hurricane 26 in its October 2026 review. Those are launch figures, not a promise of today’s sale price. Regional taxes, promotions, color availability, and remaining sizes can change the amount you see at checkout.
The cited official Guide 18 page does not establish a comparable current price. Check the local Saucony listing and reputable retailers for the price in your currency, then compare the exact width and size rather than comparing a discounted Hurricane with a full-price Guide. Return shipping and the ability to run-test the shoe can be as important as a small price difference.
A step-by-step way to choose
- Decide how much cushioning you actually want. If the answer is “as much as possible,” begin with the Hurricane 26. If you want a lower platform, begin with the Guide 18.
- Identify the guidance feel you prefer. The Guide 18’s CenterPath geometry is the more explicit guidance concept. The Hurricane emphasizes a broad, protective max-cushion platform with a PWRRUN frame.
- Check your usable width. Measure or note where your current shoes feel tight, then locate the corresponding regular or wide version. Confirm that the exact size and width are in stock locally.
- Compare like-for-like prices. Use the same country, currency, size, width, and return terms. Treat the Hurricane’s $170 and £170 figures as reported launch prices, not current universal prices.
- Try both on if possible. Walk, jog, and make several turns. Look for heel lift, toe contact, arch pressure, or a feeling that the platform tips you outward or inward.
- Keep the shoe that remains comfortable after several minutes. Specifications narrow the choice; your fit and ride preference make the final decision.
In-store and at-home fit checklist
- Try shoes later in the day, when feet are often slightly larger than in the morning.
- Wear the socks you normally use for running or walking.
- Leave enough toe room to avoid contacting the front when descending or stopping.
- Confirm that the heel does not slip when you walk quickly or jog lightly.
- Check that the forefoot can spread without the upper pressing on the little toe.
- Use the same width in both models before judging their feel.
- If ordering online, keep the shoes clean indoors until you know the retailer’s return conditions.
Common comparison mistakes
Assuming the shared 6 mm offset makes them interchangeable
Offset measures the heel-to-forefoot difference, not the total amount of cushioning or the shape of the platform. Both shoes list 6 mm, yet their stack heights and foam constructions differ substantially.

Calling a specification a medical outcome
Neither the listed stack, CenterPath geometry, IncrediLUX cushioning, nor a broad base proves injury prevention, treatment, or correction of a diagnosed condition. Stop running and seek professional advice if a shoe causes persistent pain.
Declaring a weight winner from mismatched samples
The Hurricane figures and Guide figures use different size, gender, and regional references. Compare equivalent samples or treat weight as unknown rather than announcing a winner.
Buying a width without checking local stock
Wide availability is shown for the Hurricane, and a Guide 18 Wide listing appears in Saucony UK results, but assortment is not identical in every market. Confirm the actual product page before relying on a width or color.
Final decision
Start with the Hurricane 26 when maximum cushioning, a high protective platform, and walking-friendly comfort are your priorities. Start with the Guide 18 when you want a lower-stack daily trainer with PWRRUN cushioning and CenterPath guidance. Because both list a 6 mm offset but deliver different stacks and constructions, the right choice is the one whose fit and ride remain comfortable for your typical use—not a universal winner and not a prescription.
