Godlike.Host offers hosted Satisfactory servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
Most Satisfactory Server Manager failures are network-path failures, not damaged saves. First prove that the dedicated-server process is running and connect from Server Manager on the same LAN. If that works, the server and local configuration are generally healthy; concentrate on the router, public address, port forwarding, and TLS/API path. If the LAN test fails, stay on the host and check the process, firewall, bind address, multihoming arguments, service definition, and logs before changing Internet settings.
Identify which kind of failure you have
“Not working” describes several different faults. Classifying the symptom prevents random changes that can hide the original cause.

- The server appears, but joining never completes: the standard game path is usually incomplete, especially when 7777/UDP is not passing end to end.
- Server Manager reports an API connectivity error: inspect the Reliable Messaging path on 8888/TCP, then TLS reachability and certificate-name matching.
- LAN clients connect, but players on the Internet cannot: the dedicated server is probably healthy; investigate the router, NAT, public address, and forwarding rules.
- Settings seem to disappear after a restart: the server may have been terminated hard, before it could write configuration files and close the save cleanly.
- The service starts and immediately stops: check the executable path, working directory, permissions, journal output, and the current
FactoryGame.log.
Use the first successful boundary as your stopping point. A successful LAN connection means you should not reinstall the game or replace the save while the remaining fault is on the external network or TLS path.
The fastest diagnostic: a local LAN test
The official troubleshooting sequence separates local reachability from Internet reachability because networking is the most common reason a server that appears healthy cannot be joined.

- [Games need exclusions and runtimes, not malware]Some customers ask why our retro game drives can trigger Windows Security warnings. Many game files are older DLLs that Windows Defender sometimes flags as threats. They are not viruses or malware—just old or uncommon code causing false positives. We temporarily add them to the exclusion list so they aren't blocked, then re-enable Security to keep your PC protected. Many classic games also need legacy VC++ and DirectX runtimes, which modern Windows doesn't include by default. Installing them ensures compatibility and smooth play. Your safety matters to us—these are safe, standard steps for retro games.

- Confirm the dedicated-server process is running. On Linux, inspect the service state and journal. On any host, verify that the server has completed startup rather than merely leaving a launcher window open.
- Find the host’s current private LAN address. Use the address assigned to the server’s active adapter, not an old address copied from a previous router lease.
- Open Server Manager from a computer on the same LAN. Add the server using its private address and the configured standard port.
- Attempt a connection before testing from outside. Record whether the server is undiscoverable, appears but will not join, or connects successfully.
If the LAN attempt fails, Internet port forwarding is not the next step. Work through the local process, firewall, bind address, service unit, and log checks below. If LAN access succeeds, leave the save and gameplay configuration alone and move to the router and public-path checks.
Required ports and what each symptom suggests
For Satisfactory 1.1-era dedicated servers, the documented network requirements are:

| Standard dedicated-server traffic | 7777 | TCP and UDP | Server process, host firewall, router forwarding, and any upstream firewall | Missing UDP commonly lets the server appear while joining never completes |
| Reliable Messaging/API path | 8888 | TCP | Server process, host firewall, router forwarding, and any upstream firewall | Server Manager API connectivity errors or failed management requests |
The standard port cannot be redirected to a different internal port. The external and internal values in the router rule must both be 7777. Create forwarding rules for 7777/TCP, 7777/UDP, and 8888/TCP. Allow the same traffic in the operating system firewall; a router rule cannot override a host-level block.
Port labels in a router interface vary. Choose separate protocol entries when the router does not provide a combined TCP/UDP option, and apply the rules to the server’s current private address. A DHCP lease change can silently invalidate an otherwise correct rule, so reserve the address in DHCP or configure a stable LAN address before testing from the Internet.
If the LAN test fails
1. Verify the process and listening state
A service can be “running” while the game process has crashed during initialization or is listening only on a loopback or inactive adapter. Check the service status, then inspect the log rather than repeatedly restarting it.
On a systemd host, these commands provide the first evidence (substitute the unit name used on your machine):

journalctl -u satisfactory.service --no-pager -n 200
Look for a clean startup message, a fatal error, a permission failure, or a bind/listen error. If the unit reports a restart loop, stop changing router rules until the process remains up locally.
2. Check the host firewall on both transports
Permit inbound 7777/TCP, 7777/UDP, and 8888/TCP on the network profile used by the server. If the firewall has separate inbound rules for IPv4 and IPv6, make sure the address family used by the LAN test is covered. Temporarily disabling a firewall can be a diagnostic experiment, but restore it and create narrow port rules after the test; do not leave the host unprotected.
When a firewall rule already exists, verify that it targets the actual server executable or listening ports and applies to the active interface. A rule tied to an old installation path, an old network profile, or a previous private address may look correct while matching no traffic.
3. Check bind-address and multihoming arguments
Servers with more than one network adapter, a VPN interface, or a changed private address can bind to the wrong interface. The dedicated-server history records a fix for Server Manager binding to an incorrect address when one adapter or multihoming was involved. Inspect startup arguments and service environment settings for an explicit bind or multihome value that points to an interface no longer present.
For diagnosis, simplify the host: disconnect an unnecessary VPN, identify the adapter carrying the LAN route, and ensure the service starts after that interface is available. Do not add multiple competing bind arguments. After changing one value, restart the service gracefully and repeat the LAN test.
4. Read the current server log before restarting again
The primary file is FactoryGame/Saved/Logs/FactoryGame.log beneath the installation directory. Older files use the form FactoryGame-backup-DATE-TIME.log, and crash reports are stored under FactoryGame/Saved/Crashes.

Logs are rotated when the server starts, with the newest file named FactoryGame.log. If you need evidence from the failed run, copy the current log and any crash report before another restart. Search around the end of the file for the first fatal error, bind failure, missing dependency, or orderly shutdown message; later warnings may only be consequences of that first failure.
If LAN works but remote players cannot connect
A successful private-address connection proves that the process, save, and local game path can work. The remaining path is the router and Internet edge.
- Confirm the forwarding destination. Point all three rules—7777/TCP, 7777/UDP, and 8888/TCP—to the server’s current private address.
- Match the standard port. Set both external and internal values to 7777 for the standard traffic rules; redirection to another internal port is not supported for this port.
- Check the router’s public-facing address. Use the address actually assigned to the Internet-facing router interface, not a stale value saved in Server Manager or a private RFC1918 address.
- Inspect every NAT layer. If the server sits behind more than one router or gateway, the forward must exist on the device receiving the public connection and on the downstream device that owns the server’s LAN.
- Retest after the rule applies. Router changes can require saving, applying, or restarting the forwarding service. Test from a genuinely external connection rather than another device that is still on the same LAN.
Do not infer that a visible server proves all ports are open. Discovery and the actual join exchange can use different traffic, which is why missing 7777/UDP can produce the “appears but never joins” symptom. Likewise, a failed API request does not prove that 7777 is wrong; 8888/TCP and TLS have their own path.
Fixing Server Manager API and certificate errors
The dedicated-server API is always wrapped in TLS. When Server Manager reports an API or certificate error even though a port appears reachable, validate the management path rather than changing the save.
Check 8888/TCP end to end
Allow 8888/TCP in the host firewall and forward it to the same private address. Verify that the server process is listening on the expected interface. A router rule for 7777 does not carry API traffic automatically; it is a separate transport and port.
Match the entered hostname to the certificate name
The hostname players or Server Manager enter must match the name presented by the server certificate. A LAN address may work while a public hostname fails if the certificate was issued for a different name, or if the public name resolves through a path that does not return to the server correctly.

Inspect any custom certificate configuration for an incorrect file, expired certificate, wrong key, or name mismatch. Keep the test controlled: first connect over the private LAN address, then test the exact public hostname intended for players. If private access succeeds and the public-hostname test fails, the evidence points to the external path, TLS name, or NAT behavior—not the game save.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Correct a Linux systemd service
The service definition must launch the dedicated-server script from the installation directory. Compare your unit with the documented pattern and correct these four items:
ExecStart: use the absolute path ending inFactoryServer.sh, with execute permission for the service account.WorkingDirectory: set it to the directory that contains the server installation, not the parent directory or a shell user’s home directory.- Restart policy: use
Restart=on-failurewith a restart delay so a transient crash does not become an uncontrolled tight loop. - Shutdown signal: use
KillSignal=SIGINTso systemd requests the same graceful shutdown path as the Server Manager console.
After editing a unit, reload systemd, restart the service, and immediately inspect its status and journal:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
systemctl daemon-reload
systemctl restart satisfactory.service
systemctl status satisfactory.service
journalctl -u satisfactory.service --no-pager -n 200
If the service fails only under systemd but works when launched interactively, compare the service user’s permissions, environment, working directory, and access to the installation and save folders. A shell launch may inherit variables or a path that the unit does not have.
The service guide places output in both the system journal and the installation’s FactoryGame/Saved/Logs directory. Use both: the journal explains process and permission failures, while the game log usually contains engine, save, and network initialization details.
Shut down gracefully before changing configuration
Use the Server Manager console command quit, send SIGINT, or stop the systemd unit. Avoid a hard kill while diagnosing configuration or save problems. The configuration guide warns that server INI files may not be generated until the server closes gracefully, so an abrupt termination can make a valid setting appear to be ignored or leave no file to inspect.
A safe sequence is:
- Tell players to leave and wait for active writes to finish.
- Run
quitin the Server Manager console, send SIGINT, or use the systemd stop command. - Confirm that the process has exited and that the log records an orderly shutdown.
- Back up the relevant INI files and save before editing.
- Make one configuration change, start the server, and test the same LAN or remote boundary that previously failed.
Changing several settings at once makes it impossible to know which change fixed or introduced the fault.

Recovery playbooks for common cases
“It worked until I changed the network”
- Record the host’s new private address and the adapter currently carrying traffic.
- Review bind and multihome arguments for the old address or interface.
- Update DHCP reservation or the static LAN assignment.
- Change router forwards to the current address and apply the rules.
- Gracefully restart the service, then run the LAN test before trying the public hostname.
“The server is listed, but nobody can join”
- Test from the same LAN to separate local and remote variables.
- If LAN fails, resolve process, firewall, and bind issues first.
- If LAN succeeds, verify 7777/TCP and 7777/UDP, with no port redirection.
- Retest from outside the LAN after confirming the router’s public address and forwarding destination.
“Server Manager says API connectivity or certificate error”
- Confirm the process stays running and inspect
FactoryGame.log. - Allow and forward 8888/TCP separately from 7777.
- Use the hostname that matches the TLS certificate.
- Compare a private-address test with the public-hostname test. A difference isolates the fault to NAT, external routing, or TLS naming.
Prevent the next outage
- Reserve a stable LAN address for the server so DHCP changes do not invalidate forwarding.
- Document three separate rules: 7777/TCP, 7777/UDP, and 8888/TCP.
- Keep external and internal 7777 values identical.
- Save a known-good copy of the systemd unit, server arguments, certificate settings, and INI files.
- After upgrades or network changes, perform one private-LAN test before inviting remote players.
- Copy
FactoryGame.logand any crash report before restarting when you need to preserve evidence. - Use graceful shutdown so configuration files and saves are written normally.
This order turns “Server Manager not working” into a bounded decision: local process and LAN, then standard game traffic, then remote NAT, and finally the separate API/TLS path. Fix the first boundary that fails and leave every later layer unchanged until it is actually implicated.
