Unlock Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing, build a Manufacturer, and feed it 4 Circuit Boards, 8 Cable, and 16 Plastic. The standard recipe produces 1 Computer every 24 seconds, or 2.5 Computers per minute. The Computer item page also lists a Crafting Bench option for manual production, but a Manufacturer is the practical choice for an automated factory.
Two Hard Drive alternatives are available after their matching MAM research: Caterium Computer is faster in a Manufacturer, while Crystal Computer uses an Assembler and a Crystal Oscillator chain. The best choice depends on which input network your factory can supply consistently.

The cycle rate is calculated from one Computer every 24 seconds: 60 divided by 24 equals 2.5. At a continuously running machine, the corresponding input demand is 10 Circuit Boards, 20 Cable, and 40 Plastic per minute.
How to unlock the Computer recipe
Reach Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing
The normal Computer recipe becomes available through the Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing milestone. Until that tier is unlocked, the Manufacturer recipe is not available for your production line.

- Progress through the tier milestones until Tier 6 is available.
- Complete the Industrial Manufacturing milestone.
- Open the build menu and select a Manufacturer.
- Open the Manufacturer’s recipe list and choose Computer.
The tier unlock is separate from the alternate recipes. You can produce Computers with the standard formula as soon as Industrial Manufacturing is complete; you do not need a Hard Drive for that version.
Manual crafting versus automation
The Computer page lists a Crafting Bench option, so a Computer can be made manually when that option is enabled for your current progression. Manual production is useful for an isolated item or an immediate milestone, but it does not provide a repeatable factory rate. Automated Computer production uses the Manufacturer.
How to craft Computers in a Manufacturer
1. Place and power the Manufacturer
Build a Manufacturer in a location where four input belts or lifts can reach it and one output connection can carry Computers away. Connect it to your factory’s power grid, then open its interface and select the Computer recipe.
2. Supply the three ingredients
Each standard craft consumes 4 Circuit Boards, 8 Cable, and 16 Plastic. Keep all three inputs supplied; a missing ingredient pauses the entire cycle even if the other two buffers are full.

3. Collect the output
The Manufacturer outputs 1 Computer at the end of each 24-second cycle. Connect the output to storage, a transportation line, or the next production stage. A continuously supplied machine makes 150 Computers per hour before any downtime.
4. Balance upstream production
Use the per-minute figures rather than only the per-craft recipe when sizing your factory. One fully supplied standard Manufacturer needs upstream capacity for at least 10 Circuit Boards, 20 Cable, and 40 Plastic each minute. If any supplier runs below its required rate, Computer production drops below 2.5 per minute.

Materials and factory planning
Circuit Boards
Circuit Boards are the first input listed in every Computer recipe in this guide. For the standard formula, plan for 4 per cycle. The alternate formulas change the board requirement and therefore change the load on your electronics line.
Cable
The normal recipe uses 8 Cable per Computer. Cable is not used by either of the two alternate Computer recipes described below, so switching away from the standard formula removes this demand but introduces a different input chain.

Plastic
The standard formula consumes 16 Plastic per cycle. Caterium Computer and Crystal Computer do not list Plastic as an input; they instead use Rubber or Crystal Oscillators, respectively.

At a continuously running machine, Caterium Computer consumes 15 Circuit Boards, 52.5 Quickwire, and 22.5 Rubber per minute. It produces 1 Computer every 16 seconds, so it is faster per Manufacturer than the standard 24-second recipe.
When Caterium Computer fits best
- Use it when your factory has reliable Quickwire and Rubber production.
- Keep it in a Manufacturer-based layout; it does not require the building change used by Crystal Computer.
- Plan for the higher Circuit Board rate: 15 per minute instead of 10 per minute for one continuously running machine.
The faster output is not automatically an advantage if Quickwire, Rubber, or Circuit Boards are the bottleneck. The recipe is valuable when those three streams are easier for your existing factory to maintain than Cable and Plastic.

Because one cycle makes two Computers, a 36-second cycle yields about 3.333 Computers per minute. The corresponding input demand is 5 Circuit Boards and about 1.667 Crystal Oscillators per minute for one continuously running Assembler.

What changes with Crystal Computer
- The production building changes from a Manufacturer to an Assembler.
- The recipe removes Cable and Plastic from the input list.
- The factory must supply Crystal Oscillators, which become the key intermediate component.
- The output rate is higher than the standard recipe but lower than Caterium Computer’s 3.75 per minute.
How to unlock either alternate recipe
Complete the matching MAM research first
Hard Drive scans can offer alternate recipes only after the relevant prerequisites are available. For Caterium Computer, complete MAM Caterium Research – Caterium Ingots. For Crystal Computer, complete MAM Quartz Research – Quartz Crystals. Both also require Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing.
Scan a Hard Drive
- Confirm that Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing is unlocked.
- Complete the Caterium or Quartz MAM research that matches the alternate you want to make eligible.
- Process a collected Hard Drive through the MAM’s Hard Drive research option.
- Wait for the alternate-recipe selection and inspect the offered choices.
- Select Caterium Computer or Crystal Computer when it appears as an available option.
A Hard Drive scan does not guarantee a specific alternate on a particular attempt. The important eligibility rule is that the tier and matching MAM prerequisite must be available before the scan can offer the recipe.

Which Computer recipe should you use?
Choose the standard recipe for the simplest setup
The standard recipe is the easiest starting point after Tier 6 because it uses a direct combination of Circuit Boards, Cable, and Plastic and keeps production in a Manufacturer. Choose it when those inputs are already available and you want to avoid rebuilding your intermediate-product network.
Choose Caterium Computer for the highest listed rate
Caterium Computer produces 3.75 Computers per minute, the highest of the three listed rates. Its trade-off is the 14 Quickwire and 6 Rubber requirement per cycle. It is a strong option when those materials are abundant and your Circuit Board line can handle 15 boards per minute for each continuously operating Manufacturer.

Choose Crystal Computer to use Crystal Oscillators
Crystal Computer makes about 3.333 Computers per minute and uses only 3 Circuit Boards plus 1 Crystal Oscillator per cycle. It can be attractive when Cable and Plastic are constrained but Crystal Oscillator production is dependable. Remember that it requires an Assembler rather than a Manufacturer.
Make the decision from supply reliability, not rate alone
There is no universally best alternate recipe in the available recipe data. Compare the input chain you can sustain, the building space required, and the downstream demand for Computers. A faster recipe that frequently starves produces fewer usable Computers than a slower recipe with stable inputs.
What Computers are used for
Computers are a mid-game component used in several MAM research paths, including Caterium, Alien Technology, Sulfur, and Quartz. They are also ingredients for Adaptive Control Unit, Path Signal, Programmable Splitter, and Radar Tower.
These uses make Computers a recurring requirement rather than a one-time milestone item. Before selecting an alternate, estimate whether your factory needs a steady supply for research, construction, or multiple production chains.
Troubleshooting a Computer line
The Computer recipe is missing
- Check that Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing is complete.
- Verify that you are looking in a Manufacturer for the automated recipe.
- If you are checking a Hard Drive alternate, confirm the matching MAM prerequisite has been completed.
The Manufacturer is idle
- Inspect all three input buffers; the standard recipe requires Circuit Boards, Cable, and Plastic simultaneously.
- Compare supplier rates with the demand of 10 Circuit Boards, 20 Cable, and 40 Plastic per minute for one standard machine.
- Check the output connection and storage so a blocked output does not stop the cycle.
An alternate recipe is not offered
- Confirm Tier 6 is unlocked.
- For Caterium Computer, complete MAM Caterium Research – Caterium Ingots.
- For Crystal Computer, complete MAM Quartz Research – Quartz Crystals.
- Run another eligible Hard Drive scan if the desired recipe was not among the offered choices.
The factory produces less than the displayed rate
The published rates assume uninterrupted cycles and sufficient inputs. Any pause caused by missing materials, a blocked output, or a disconnected power supply lowers the real production rate. Check the machine’s clock and each upstream line before replacing the recipe.
Patch and version considerations
Recipe values and tier placement can change with major Satisfactory updates. The figures in this guide are the values listed for the current Computer and Recipes data used here: standard Computer at 4 Circuit Boards, 8 Cable, and 16 Plastic for 1 output every 24 seconds; Caterium Computer at 4 Circuit Boards, 14 Quickwire, and 6 Rubber for 1 output every 16 seconds; and Crystal Computer at 3 Circuit Boards plus 1 Crystal Oscillator for 2 outputs every 36 seconds. Recheck the in-game recipe panel after a major patch before redesigning a large production line.
