There is no evidence-based universal winner between SAP SuccessFactors and UKG Pro. SuccessFactors may suit organizations seeking a broad HCM suite that spans core HR, talent, employee experience, analytics and workforce planning. UKG Pro may be a stronger fit when payroll, time and attendance, scheduling and workforce management are central. “UltiPro” is the older name used in the comparison query; UKG currently markets the suite as UKG Pro, so the comparison below uses its current name. The right choice depends on your modules, countries, systems, implementation capacity, support needs and written total cost.

How the suites differ

Both products cover overlapping human capital management needs, but public feature descriptions do not establish that every capability is included in every package. The scope of a specific offer can depend on modules, configuration and contract terms. Compare proposals against the workflows your organization actually needs, rather than treating either suite name as a fixed bundle.

Nucleus Research’s Enterprise HCM Technology Value Matrix 2025, dated March 2025, describes SuccessFactors as covering core HR and payroll, talent management, sales performance management, employee experience, HR analytics and workforce planning. It also notes third-party add-ons through SAP Store. UKG’s product page lists HR, payroll, time and attendance, scheduling, talent management, HR service delivery, strategic workforce planning, compliance, reporting and analytics, and employee communication and collaboration. Which one fits your requirements?

Decision area SAP SuccessFactors UKG Pro What to confirm
Suite breadth Nucleus Research describes core HR and payroll, talent, employee experience, analytics and workforce planning; third-party add-ons may extend the suite. UKG lists HR, payroll, time and attendance, scheduling, talent, HR service delivery, workforce planning, compliance, analytics and employee communication. Which modules are included in the proposed package, which cost extra, and whether each meets the required workflow.
Time and workforce management The sources reviewed do not establish a matched feature-by-feature result for time and attendance or workforce management. UKG explicitly lists time and attendance and scheduling in its product description. Demonstrate shift patterns, union rules, timekeeping, labor rules, clocks and any required integrations using your scenarios.
Payroll by country The cited 2025 report establishes broad suite scope, but does not confirm current country-level payroll availability. UKG’s product page claims global payroll coverage, but does not by itself settle which countries or services fit a particular configuration. Country-by-country availability, local tax and regulatory support, languages, data location and the division of responsibilities.
Integrations and ecosystem The Nucleus report mentions third-party add-ons and supported integrations for the talent intelligence hub. UKG describes a connected platform; the product page does not establish integration details for every buyer’s systems. ERP, finance, identity, recruiting, benefits, time clocks, data warehouse, APIs, implementation ownership and ongoing maintenance.
Implementation and usability TechRadar characterizes SuccessFactors as powerful, with a steep learning curve and potentially lengthy implementation. That review is not a project estimate for your organization. The available comparison page includes user reviews, but those are not a controlled assessment of implementation effort. Migration scope, partner experience, internal staffing, timeline, change management, support and demonstrations using realistic workflows.
Price and total cost TechRadar says pricing varies with licensing volume, modules and contract length; review-site figures are not a current quote for your configuration. Software Advice lists UKG Pro pricing as available upon request. Compare written quotes with the same employee count, countries, modules, contract term, implementation, support, integration and renewal assumptions.

Choose based on the work your HR team needs to do

Consider SuccessFactors when breadth across HR and talent matters

SuccessFactors is a plausible candidate when the buying requirement spans core HR and payroll alongside talent management, employee experience, analytics or workforce planning. Its breadth does not guarantee that a particular module, integration or country requirement is included in the proposed package. Ask the vendor to map each required workflow to a named module and demonstrate it in the configuration being offered.

Consider UKG Pro when workforce operations are central

UKG Pro is a plausible candidate when time and attendance, scheduling, payroll, workforce management, compliance, reporting or employee communication are prominent in day-to-day operations. UKG’s published feature list is vendor-authored, so treat it as a starting point for evaluation rather than confirmation that every listed capability is included or configured for your needs.

Let geography and existing systems break a tie

For either platform, validate country coverage and service scope directly for each location where employees are paid. Also test the connections to your current ERP, recruiting, benefits, identity, finance and timekeeping systems. A broad product description cannot establish whether a specific integration is available, supported or included in your contract.

What public pricing and ratings can—and cannot—tell you

There is no matched public price comparison here. Software Advice’s comparison page, which it says was updated March 6, 2026, lists UKG Pro pricing as available upon request and displays a starting price for SuccessFactors. TechRadar’s 2026 review says SuccessFactors pricing varies by license volume, modules and contract length and reports per-user amounts for selected configurations. Those figures are not equivalent offers, may be package-specific or stale, and do not show which platform will cost less for your organization. Request current written proposals directly from both vendors. See Software Advice’s comparison listing and TechRadar’s SuccessFactors review.

Software Advice’s same March 6, 2026 page snapshot shows ratings of 4.0 from 288 reviews for SAP SuccessFactors HCM and 4.3 from 698 reviews for UKG Pro. Review counts and ratings can change; they are platform metadata, not controlled evidence of implementation outcomes or proof that one product performs better for your organization.

Procurement checklist: make the comparison concrete

  1. Write down required workflows. List the HR, payroll, talent, scheduling, timekeeping, analytics and employee-service tasks the platform must support. Separate must-haves from optional capabilities.
  2. Map requirements to the proposed package. For each workflow, identify the module, whether it is included or an add-on, and any dependencies on another product or service.
  3. Run scenario-based demonstrations. Use your real examples: a complex shift, a time correction, a payroll exception, an employee change, a manager approval or a compliance report. Ask the vendor to show the proposed configuration, not a generic overview.
  4. Confirm payroll country by country. Get written confirmation of supported countries, local service scope, regulatory responsibilities, languages and data-location arrangements for your employee population.
  5. Inventory integrations and migration work. Document source systems, interfaces, data ownership, migration tasks, testing responsibility and who will maintain each connection after launch.
  6. Agree on implementation and support responsibilities. Ask for a project plan, staffing assumptions, milestones, change-management expectations, support terms and escalation routes. Treat generic review commentary as context, not a delivery estimate.
  7. Compare like-for-like written quotes. Hold employee count, countries, modules, contract duration, implementation, support, integrations and renewal assumptions constant so the cost comparison reflects the same scope.

Bottom line

Choose the platform that demonstrates the required workflows in the package and countries you will actually use, with integrations, delivery responsibilities and total cost confirmed in writing. SuccessFactors is a reasonable candidate for broad HCM and talent needs; UKG Pro is a reasonable candidate when payroll and workforce management are especially important. Neither public feature lists nor headline ratings settle the choice for a specific employer.
