CVE-2026-89111 is a critical server-side request forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in the SAP Cloud SDK for Python. SAP’s October 13, 2026 Security Patch Day bulletin lists releases below 0.45.2 as affected. The linked maintainer advisory identifies 0.45.2 as the patched release. Upgrade every affected deployment to 0.45.2 or later. If an upgrade must wait, validate tenant_subdomain against an allowlist of registered tenant subdomains before the value reaches an SDK call.
What is the SAP OAuth2 SSRF vulnerability?
CVE-2026-89111 affects the sap-cloud-sdk package, also described as SAP Cloud SDK for Python, when it is used by multi-tenant SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) applications. In the affected code path, an attacker who can control the tenant_subdomain parameter can influence where the SDK sends an OAuth2 token request. Instead of reaching the intended tenant authorization endpoint, the request can be redirected to an attacker-controlled server.
That redirection can expose OAuth2 client credentials. The maintainer advisory classifies the flaw as CWE-918, the Common Weakness Enumeration for server-side request forgery. The issue is in the Python SDK dependency and its handling of tenant input; the advisory does not establish that every SAP product, every BTP application, or every deployment is affected.
SAP rates the issue Critical with a CVSS base score of 10.0. The GitHub maintainer advisory also reports a CVSS 3.1 base score of 10.0 and the vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N. In plain language, the described attack is network-reachable, has low complexity, requires no privileges or user interaction, crosses a security scope, and can have high confidentiality and integrity impact, while no availability impact is assigned.

Which SAP Cloud SDK for Python versions are affected?
| Package version | Status | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Earlier than 0.45.2 | Affected according to SAP and the maintainer advisory | Upgrade as a priority; apply the input-validation workaround if an immediate upgrade is impossible |
| 0.45.2 | Patched version identified by the maintainer advisory | Deploy through the application’s normal testing and release process |
| Later than 0.45.2 | At or beyond the stated fixed release | Confirm the exact artifact in production and review later vendor advisories |
The relevant fact is the version of sap-cloud-sdk actually installed in the application and deployment artifact. A system name, BTP subaccount name, or SAP product version alone cannot establish whether this CVE is present. Lock files, container images, build manifests, and the running environment can contain different versions, so check the artifact that serves production traffic.
How the attack works
1. An application accepts tenant input
A multi-tenant application receives or derives a tenant_subdomain value. The security issue requires an attacker to control that value in the affected application context. The value might arrive through a request parameter, a tenant-selection workflow, a message, or another application-controlled data path; the advisory does not prescribe one particular input channel.

2. The SDK builds an OAuth2 destination
The vulnerable SDK uses the subdomain while constructing the endpoint for an OAuth2 token request. In the vulnerable versions, the application can therefore cause the SDK to target a host chosen by the attacker rather than a registered SAP tenant.

3. Client credentials leave the intended trust boundary
The SDK sends the token request using the application’s OAuth2 client authentication. A malicious endpoint can collect those credentials. Depending on the client and granted permissions, stolen credentials could allow unauthorized access or changes; the advisory describes possible credential exfiltration but does not document a compromise in any named deployment.
What should administrators do first?
- Inventory use of the package. Search application source, dependency manifests, lock files, build pipelines, container layers, and runtime environments for
sap-cloud-sdk. Include development and staging projects that can be promoted to production. - Determine the deployed version. Inspect the production artifact rather than relying on a repository declaration. For a Python environment, a command such as
python -m pip show sap-cloud-sdkcan display the installed package version; also record the image digest or deployment revision that produced it. - Map the input path. Identify every place where
tenant_subdomainis read, transformed, logged, cached, or passed to an SDK function. Confirm whether an untrusted caller can influence it. - Prioritize internet-reachable applications. Network-reachable applications with attacker-controlled tenant input fit the attack conditions described by the advisory and should be handled first.
- Preserve evidence before changing a suspected compromise. Retain relevant application, identity, proxy, and outbound-DNS logs according to your incident-response policy. Do not assume that a failed request proves that credentials were safe.
How to fix CVE-2026-89111
Upgrade to the patched SDK
Update the dependency to 0.45.2 or later, rebuild the application, run the project’s normal automated and integration tests, and deploy the resulting artifact. Do not stop after editing a requirements file: verify that the running process imports the intended version and that old virtual environments, cached wheels, and container layers are not being reused.
- Change the application’s dependency constraint or lock file so it resolves to
sap-cloud-sdk0.45.2 or newer. - Regenerate the lock file or build environment under the project’s normal reproducible-build procedure.
- Run tests covering tenant resolution, OAuth2 token acquisition, destination handling, and failure responses.
- Build a new deployment artifact and record its package version.
- Deploy through the approved promotion path, then verify the package version inside the running instance.
- Remove temporary workarounds only after the patched artifact is confirmed in every relevant environment.
SAP’s bulletin says customers should apply its security corrections on priority. SAP’s security-notes overview explains that Security Patch Day is scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month and that support-package age and maintenance status affect some high- and very-high-severity corrections. Those lifecycle statements do not replace the package-specific instruction here: the stated fix for this SDK issue is 0.45.2 or later.
Apply the documented workaround when an upgrade is delayed
The maintainer advisory’s workaround is to validate tenant_subdomain against an allowlist of registered tenant subdomains before passing it to any SDK call. The allowlist should be maintained as trusted configuration, not supplied by the same request that carries the tenant value.

# Pass only the validated value to the SAP Cloud SDK call.
This example illustrates the control; adapt it to the application’s framework and tenant registry. Exact string matching is safer than accepting arbitrary hostnames, suffixes, regular expressions, or user-provided URLs. Normalize the value consistently, reject unexpected types and empty values, and fail closed when the registry is unavailable. Keep the registry current when tenants are added or removed, and test that a syntactically valid but unregistered value is rejected.
How to verify that the workaround is effective
- Send a request containing a registered subdomain and confirm that normal OAuth2 behavior still works.
- Send an unregistered but plausible subdomain and confirm that validation stops processing before the SDK call.
- Try uppercase, surrounding whitespace, trailing dots, alternate encodings, and unusually long values.
- Attempt values that resemble complete URLs, hostnames outside the registry, and internal network names.
- Check outbound proxy, DNS, and firewall logs to ensure rejected values do not trigger a network request.
- Repeat the tests in each deployment mode, including background jobs and administrative workflows that may bypass the main request handler.
What to do if credentials may have been exposed
If logs, telemetry, or an investigation show that an attacker could control tenant_subdomain while a vulnerable version was running, treat the OAuth2 client credentials used by that flow as potentially exposed. Follow the application owner’s incident procedure and coordinate with the identity and SAP platform teams.
- Identify which client IDs, secrets, certificates, scopes, and destinations were available to the affected process.
- Review token-issuance, API-access, proxy, DNS, and application logs for unexpected destinations or activity.
- Rotate or revoke affected client credentials using the organization’s approved identity-management process.
- Assess whether issued tokens remain valid and invalidate them where the platform supports it.
- Check for unauthorized reads or changes performed with the client’s permissions.
- Document the timeline, evidence, containment steps, and package versions for incident and compliance records.
Do not claim that a compromise occurred solely because a vulnerable version was installed. Conversely, do not dismiss the risk because no obvious error appeared: SSRF requests can look like ordinary outbound token traffic unless destination and identity telemetry is retained.

The technical advisory names the SAP Cloud SDK for Python package in multi-tenant BTP applications. It does not state that all SAP products, SAP Java libraries, on-premises systems, or applications that never use this package are affected. Determine scope by tracing the package and the vulnerable parameter in the deployed application. If your environment uses another SDK or a different language, consult the advisory for that component rather than assuming this CVE applies.

Why the CVSS 10.0 score matters
The score reflects the attack characteristics reported by SAP and the maintainer, not a promise that every deployment has identical exposure. “Network” and “no privileges required” describe the scoring scenario; your own authentication layers, network controls, tenant registry, and code paths can change practical exploitability. The score still warrants urgent remediation because the stated impact includes high confidentiality and integrity consequences and possible theft of OAuth2 client credentials.
Frequently asked questions
Does CVSS 10.0 mean my system is already compromised?
No. CVSS measures severity under the published attack scenario. The available advisories do not report exploitation or compromise in a specific deployment. Investigate logs if untrusted tenant input could reach a vulnerable SDK, and rotate credentials when exposure is plausible.
Is version 0.45.2 the minimum safe version?
It is the patched version identified by the maintainer advisory, and SAP lists versions below it as affected. Use 0.45.2 or a later release, then continue monitoring vendor advisories for subsequent issues.
Recommended Free Tools
Can a firewall alone mitigate the vulnerability?
Not reliably. The documented temporary mitigation is application-level allowlisting of registered tenant_subdomain values. Network controls can add defense in depth, but they do not replace rejecting attacker-controlled tenant input before the SDK constructs the token request.

What if the application has no user-facing tenant parameter?
Trace all sources of the value, including message consumers, scheduled jobs, administrative APIs, and configuration services. If the value is genuinely fixed to a trusted registry entry and cannot be influenced by an attacker, the described attack path may not exist; still verify the installed version and patch where possible.
Should generic security hardware or a separate appliance be purchased?
No product purchase is established as a remedy by the advisories. The corrective actions are updating the Python dependency and, temporarily, validating tenant input against a trusted allowlist.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I prove which version is running in production?
Inspect the running environment or container image, record the resolved sap-cloud-sdk version, and compare it with the deployment manifest or lock file. A source repository declaration alone is not proof of the runtime version.
What evidence should be retained during remediation?
Keep the affected artifact identifier, package version, deployment times, validation changes, outbound-request logs, OAuth2 issuance records, and any credential-rotation or incident-response actions.
