To add Samsung’s Weather widget, touch and hold an empty area of your Galaxy Home screen, tap Widgets, choose Weather, select a style or size, and add it. If Samsung asks for a location, choose one then. You can later move the widget, switch it to another saved city, or use your current location when location services are enabled.
What the Samsung Weather widget does
The Weather widget places a live summary from Samsung’s Weather feature on a Galaxy Home screen. It saves you from opening the Weather app for a quick look and can represent either a saved city or your current location. Samsung documents the widget across many Galaxy devices, including models in the Galaxy S, Galaxy Z and Galaxy A families.
The exact cards, icons, labels and available sizes depend on your phone model, regional software build and One UI version. Samsung’s support instructions use the same basic path across devices, but screenshots and menu names can differ. Follow the control that matches what your phone displays rather than looking for an identical screen.

1. Open the Home-screen widget picker
- Go to the Galaxy Home screen where you want the forecast to appear.
- Touch and hold an empty area of the screen. Do not press and hold an existing app icon or widget.
- Tap Widgets in the Home-screen editing controls.
If the editing controls do not appear, repeat the gesture on an unused section of the Home screen. A brief tap opens an app; the widget picker requires a press-and-hold.

2. Find Samsung Weather
- Scroll through the widget list, or use its search control if your software provides one.
- Find and tap Weather.
Samsung may show more than one Weather layout. The previews represent different shapes or amounts of information, so choose the one that fits the space you have available.
3. Choose a style or size
- Swipe through the available Weather widget previews, when more than one is offered.
- Tap the preferred style or size, then tap Add (or the equivalent add control shown on your phone).
A larger layout can occupy more Home-screen space, while a smaller layout may show less information. Samsung’s setup flow lets you make this choice before the widget is placed; the exact choices vary by model and software version.
4. Select a location if prompted
- When the widget asks for a location, select a city that you want it to display.
- Complete the on-screen confirmation. The widget then appears on the selected Home-screen page.
If no location prompt appears, the widget may use a location already configured in Samsung’s Weather feature. You can change the displayed city after adding it.
Move, resize or remove the widget
Move it to a different position
Touch and hold the Weather widget, then drag it to an open position on the same Home-screen page or to another page. Release it when the placement outline appears. If the destination is full, move an icon or another widget first so the Weather widget has enough room.
Change its size or layout
On Galaxy software that supports resizing, touch and hold the widget until its controls or outline appear, then drag the handles to the desired dimensions. Some Samsung versions offer separate fixed layouts instead; remove the existing widget and add the Weather style or size that better fits your page.

Remove it without uninstalling Weather
Touch and hold the widget and tap Remove. This removes the Home-screen shortcut only; it does not uninstall Samsung’s Weather app or erase the cities saved there. You can add the widget again through Home screen → Widgets → Weather.
Choose the city or current location shown
Add a city in the Weather app first
Samsung’s location guidance uses the Weather app to create the list of available cities:

- Use the app’s + control to add a city.
- Search for or select the city and save it to the Weather app’s locations.
The city must be saved in Weather before the Home-screen widget can select it from the available locations.
Switch an existing widget to another saved city
- Touch and hold the Weather widget on the Home screen.
- Open the widget’s settings.
- Tap Change beside the currently selected location.
- Choose another saved city.
- Save the change using the control shown on your device.
This changes the location for that widget; it does not require you to add a second widget. If the city is not listed, add it in the Weather app first, then return to the widget settings.
Use the phone’s current location
A current-location display depends on Samsung’s location services being enabled. Turn on Location in the phone’s quick settings or Settings, then allow the Weather app to use location when Android presents its permission control. The wording and permission screen can vary by One UI version.

When location is disabled, Samsung cannot keep the widget tied to where you are. Select a saved city instead if you want a fixed location that does not depend on location services.

Keep weather information refreshed
Understand “Auto refresh on the go”
Samsung documents an Auto refresh on the go option for its Weather feature in an Android 13 (One UI 5) context. In that documented interface, a visible refresh icon means automatic refresh is turned off. Enabling Auto refresh on the go removes the manual refresh icon and allows weather information to refresh when movement is detected.
This behavior is not guaranteed to appear on every Galaxy model or software version. If your Weather settings do not show that option, use the controls available in your build rather than assuming the feature is missing from the phone entirely.
Refresh manually when the information is old
If your version shows a refresh icon, tap it in the Weather app or the widget’s available controls. A manual refresh is useful when automatic updating is disabled or when you have changed cities and want the new forecast to appear. The icon and its location differ by device.
Fix a wrong city or stale forecast
When the widget shows the wrong location
- Touch and hold the widget, open its settings and check the selected location.
- If the desired city is absent, open Weather, add it with the + control, save it, then select it from the widget settings.
- For a current-location widget, confirm that the phone’s Location service is on.
- Check the Weather app’s location permission and allow the access required by your Android version.
When the forecast is stale
- Check whether your software presents Auto refresh on the go and enable it if you want movement-based updates.
- If a refresh icon is visible, use it to request an update.
- Check for updates for the Weather app and install any available update through the update mechanism on your phone.
- Remove the Weather widget and add it again from Widgets if its display remains stuck.
These are Samsung’s support recommendations. They address location access, app currency and the widget connection, but the result can still depend on the phone model, software build and network conditions.

When the Weather widget is missing
Most Galaxy devices have a Weather widget, but the list can differ by model, region and software version. Confirm that you are opening the widget picker from a Galaxy Home screen, then look under Weather. If it is still absent, check for system or app updates and try again after the phone finishes installing them. Samsung’s support material does not promise an identical widget catalog for every Galaxy device.
Galaxy foldables: front screen and FlexWindow placement
Samsung’s U.S. support guidance also covers adding the Weather widget to supported Galaxy Z Fold front screens and Galaxy Z Flip FlexWindows. The controls shown on the cover display can differ from those on the main Home screen, so open the cover-screen or FlexWindow editing controls on the specific foldable and follow the widget choices presented there.
A widget available on the main display is not automatically guaranteed to be available on the cover display. Samsung’s support instructions are device-specific, so use the model’s own edit and widget controls when configuring a foldable.

Pick the location that matches your routine
- Saved city: Choose this when you want a stable forecast for a home city, workplace or travel destination. It continues to show that city even when you move.
- Current location: Choose this when you travel frequently and want the widget to follow you. It requires location services and the Weather app’s location permission.
Choose a size that preserves useful space
Use a compact style when you primarily need a quick weather glance and want to keep app icons visible. Use a larger style when the available preview provides information you want to see without opening Weather. Because Samsung’s layouts differ between models, judge the choice from the previews in your own widget picker.
Place it where a swipe will not move it accidentally
After adding the widget, drag it to an open area that you can reach comfortably. Avoid placing it over frequently used icons or on a page you rarely open. If you later change the Home-screen arrangement, move the widget with the same touch-and-hold gesture rather than creating duplicates.

Model and software differences to expect
Samsung’s instructions are published for different regions, including India, the United States, the United Kingdom and Gulf-region support pages. The common sequence is consistent, but the labels, screenshots, available layouts and permission prompts can change with a regional build, Galaxy model or One UI release.

When a label in this table is not present on your phone, look for the equivalent control in the same part of the Home-screen or Weather settings. Do not treat a screenshot from another Galaxy model as a promise that your phone has the same options.
A reliable setup checklist
- Start from an empty area of the Galaxy Home screen.
- Open Widgets, then Weather.
- Select the style or size that fits the page.
- Add the widget and choose a location if prompted.
- Open Weather and save any additional cities with the + control.
- Use the widget settings to select the saved city you actually want displayed.
- Enable Location and Weather permission if the widget should follow your current position.
- Check the refresh controls available on your software version.
- Update Weather or remove and re-add the widget if the location or forecast remains incorrect.
What you need—and what you do not
You need a supported Samsung Galaxy phone with Samsung’s Home screen and Weather feature. The process does not require buying an accessory, replacement part or separate subscription. A Galaxy device is the only physical product involved, and the exact widget experience depends on its model, region and installed software.
Bottom line
The Samsung Weather widget is added from the Galaxy Home-screen Widgets menu, not from the Weather app’s main screen. Choose a layout, place it where you want, then select a saved city or use current location with location services enabled. If the display is wrong or stale, verify the city, location permission and available refresh setting before updating or re-adding the widget. Samsung’s menu names and features can change across Galaxy models and software versions, so the controls visible on your phone are the authoritative ones.
