“Usage data access” can mean four different things on a Samsung device: permissions an app has on your phone, information Samsung services collect, an app’s permission to read Samsung Health data, or a request to see or delete data Samsung holds. The right control depends on which one you mean.
Check what an individual app can access on your Galaxy
To review permissions granted to an app, open Settings > Apps > select the app > Permissions. From there, you can review and change or deny permissions. Samsung notes that the screens and settings can differ by carrier, device model and software version, so labels or paths may not match exactly on every Galaxy device. See Samsung’s Galaxy app-permissions guidance.
This screen concerns an individual app’s access to things on your device. It is not a complete inventory of information collected by Samsung services. Samsung’s practical advice is: “When in doubt, if an app seems fishy, don’t grant it access.”

Samsung’s general privacy policy describes “Usage and Log information” as diagnostic, technical, error and usage information associated with Samsung services. Examples include when and how long a person uses a service, services installed on a device, search terms entered in connection with a particular service, cookies, error reports and dump logs.

The policy describes device, location, voice and keyboard information separately. These categories should not be treated as one undifferentiated set of “usage data,” and the examples above are not an inventory of everything every app can access.
Diagnostic and usage collection in Samsung’s US computing terms
Samsung’s US computing terms say that if a user opts into diagnostic and usage collection, Samsung and its affiliates may collect and use diagnostic, technical and usage-related information to provide and improve products and services and facilitate updates and support. This opt-in description is specific to the cited US terms; it should not be assumed to describe every Samsung service or regional choice.

Samsung Health data access is a separate permission
An app using Samsung Health’s Data SDK needs the user’s consent to access health data. Permission requests identify the data type and access type. For example, an app can receive heart-rate data only after the user grants the corresponding read permission. Samsung’s Data SDK permission guide says apps using the SDK appear in Samsung Health settings and advises developers to give users a way to change their data allowance in the app.

Request a copy or deletion of data Samsung holds
A device permission setting does not make a request to Samsung for data it holds. For that, use the privacy process that applies to your country, account and service. Samsung’s UK privacy page, for example, describes usage and log information; regional notices and choices can differ.
Samsung’s US Consumer Health Data Privacy Statement, last updated July 1, 2025, describes access and deletion requests for covered consumer health data. It also describes withdrawing consent where consent was required and provided. Those rights are scoped to the statement and applicable law: they do not establish a universal process for all Samsung account or device data, or for consumers in every country.

Choose the control that matches your concern
- An app can use a device feature or information: review that app’s permissions in Settings.
- Samsung services collect information about service use: read the privacy notice and service or device choices applicable to your region.
- An app reads Samsung Health data: review its user-granted data permissions for the relevant data type and access type.
- You want data Samsung holds copied or deleted: use the privacy request process applicable to your country and the data involved.
Changing an app permission does not by itself show that Samsung service diagnostics or usage collection are disabled. Likewise, a diagnostic choice is not a data-access or deletion request. The cited sources do not establish one universal opt-out switch covering every Samsung service and region.
