Samsung TV Plus is the better pick for owners of a compatible Samsung television who want immediate, no-cost access. It is built into supported Samsung devices and combines hundreds of live channels with a large on-demand library.
Pluto TV is the more flexible choice for mixed-device households. It runs on many smart TVs, streaming devices, mobile platforms and the web, and its programming includes Paramount franchises as well as partner channels. Both services are free and ad-supported, and both change their lineups by market and over time.
Quick verdict
The right service depends less on a universal channel-count winner than on the devices and programming you already use. Choose Samsung TV Plus when you have a supported Samsung Smart TV, Galaxy device, Smart Monitor or Family Hub refrigerator and value the shortest path to live television. What Samsung TV Plus includes
Samsung’s Help Center describes TV Plus as “100% free,” with live channels and on-demand movies and shows. The service is available on Samsung Smart TVs released after 2016, Galaxy devices, Smart Monitors and Family Hub refrigerators. Galaxy mobile support is limited to the United States according to Samsung’s mobile support information.

Samsung describes hundreds of live channels spanning news, sports, entertainment and other genres, alongside a large on-demand catalog. Its service presentation gives examples including ABC, CBS, FOX News, MLB, Formula 1, Hallmark Movies & More and Vevo. These are examples, not a promise that every title or channel appears for every viewer: Samsung notes that availability is market-dependent and can change.
Where TV Plus is strongest
- Immediate access on Samsung hardware: On a supported Samsung television, TV Plus is integrated into the device rather than requiring a separate streaming box.
- Broad genre mix: The published examples cover news, sports, movies, music, kids and family programming.
- Live and on-demand in one service: You can move between a scheduled channel guide and an on-demand catalog without paying a subscription.
Important TV Plus limits
- Support is tied to Samsung product families and model year. A Samsung television released before 2017 is outside the stated Smart TV support range.
- Galaxy mobile support is specifically identified as United States-only.
- Channel names, individual programs and sports availability can differ by country and can be withdrawn or replaced.
What Pluto TV includes
Pluto TV’s service page advertises “100s of free channels,” “1000s of on-demand movies” and full seasons of shows. Its basic viewing experience does not require an account; signing in is optional and can add personalization features.
Pluto’s published device list includes Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Android mobile devices and other smart-TV and streaming-device platforms, as well as desktop and web viewing. That breadth makes it practical when a household does not use one television manufacturer exclusively.

Skydance describes Pluto TV as operating across connected TV, mobile and web in more than 35 markets. Paramount’s Pluto TV information highlights access to franchises such as Survivor, CSI, SpongeBob SquarePants, iCarly, Yellowstone, Tracker and Ghosts. Paramount also says Pluto works with more than 400 international media-company partners and carries movies, series, sports, news, lifestyle and kids programming.
Those figures and examples are corporate descriptions rather than a permanent, worldwide catalog. Licensing windows, local partners and regional rights determine what a viewer actually sees. A show listed in one country may be absent, moved to another channel or offered only on demand elsewhere.

The table’s “not established” entries are deliberate. TV Plus being available on Samsung hardware does not imply that it runs on Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV or a general web browser. Conversely, installing Pluto on a Fire TV does not create Samsung TV Plus support. If a device is central to your setup, verify the current app listing for that exact model before buying hardware.

Live channels and on-demand libraries
Channel counts are not an apples-to-apples ranking
Samsung describes “hundreds” of live channels and a large on-demand selection. Pluto describes “100s” of free channels and “1000s” of on-demand movies, plus full seasons of shows. The wording does not define identical counting methods: a channel may be a branded feed, a genre stream or a local-market service, while an on-demand count may include individual films and episodes. Therefore, neither figure proves that one service has more total viewing choices for your household.
Use the numbers as scale indicators. Both services offer substantially more than a handful of free channels, but the useful comparison is the guide visible in your country on the device you plan to use.
News and sports
TV Plus highlights news and sports among its genres and gives FOX News, MLB and Formula 1 as examples. Pluto also carries sports and news through its own channels and media partners. Free live rights are especially volatile: a league, event or news feed can be available in one market, moved to a different channel or removed when a license expires. For a specific team, league or local station, open the current guide in your country rather than relying on a global channel list.
Movies, series and family viewing
TV Plus combines movies and shows on demand with channels such as Hallmark Movies & More, music feeds such as Vevo and kids and family categories. Pluto combines on-demand movies and full seasons with a large partner network and Paramount-related franchises. If a particular series matters, search the service at the time you intend to watch; a corporate franchise relationship does not guarantee every season or episode in every territory.
Ads, accounts and cost
Both services are free to watch and supported by advertising. “Free” means there is no stated subscription charge for the core service; it does not mean an ad-free experience or guaranteed access to every premium sports event. The available evidence does not establish a universal ad-load comparison, so claims that one service always shows fewer or shorter commercials would be misleading.

Availability outside the United States
Pluto TV is described by Skydance as available in more than 35 markets across connected TV, mobile and web. That is a corporate global figure, not a guarantee that every channel or title travels to every market.
Samsung’s cited support information confirms TV Plus on specified Samsung devices and identifies Galaxy mobile support only in the United States. It does not establish a single worldwide channel list or a universal availability rule for every country. Before relying on either service while traveling or living abroad, check the service app and channel guide for your country and device model.
How to choose in five minutes
- List the screens you will actually use. Include the television model, phones, tablets, streaming boxes and computers. If any important screen is not Samsung hardware, Pluto’s broader published device reach is the safer starting point.
- Check the exact Samsung model year. TV Plus support is stated for Samsung Smart TVs released after 2016. Do not infer compatibility from the brand name alone.
- Open the current channel guide in your market. Search for the news, sports, movie, kids or franchise programming that matters to you. Genre labels alone cannot confirm a specific feed.
- Decide whether Paramount programming changes the choice. If shows such as Survivor, CSI or SpongeBob SquarePants are a major reason to watch, Pluto deserves the first trial.

- Install or open Pluto TV, then browse the live channel guide or on-demand library.
- Watch without signing in if you only need basic viewing. Create or use an account only if you want the personalization features Pluto associates with sign-in.
- Check the local guide for the programs you expect; the available lineup depends on market and licensing.
Common decision scenarios
You already own a Samsung television
Start with Samsung TV Plus. It avoids adding another device and is the most direct way to use the service Samsung designed for its televisions. Install Pluto as a second option if its franchise catalog or device portability matters; owning a Samsung TV does not prevent you from using another service.

Start with Pluto because those destinations are explicitly included in its published where-to-watch information. TV Plus support for those platforms is not established by the cited Samsung information, so do not buy one expecting TV Plus to appear.
Your household has several television brands
Pluto is usually simpler to standardize because its published reach spans multiple connected-TV and streaming-device ecosystems, plus mobile and web. TV Plus remains useful on the Samsung screens that support it, but it is not presented as a cross-brand service.
You mainly want live sports or breaking news
Compare the current country-specific guides immediately before watching. TV Plus lists sports and news examples, and Pluto carries both genres, but neither service promises a permanent package of premium live rights. A free channel may show highlights, studio coverage or selected events rather than every game or race.

The app is missing
