Samsung TV Plus is a free, internet-delivered television service funded by advertising. It is available on eligible Samsung televisions and projectors, Galaxy phones and tablets, Smart Monitors, and Family Hub refrigerators, but the exact device and channel lineup depends on your country, model, software, and network. You do not pay a TV Plus subscription, although streaming uses bandwidth and mobile viewing can create carrier data charges.
What Samsung TV Plus is
Samsung TV Plus is a FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) and AVOD (advertising-based video-on-demand) service built into many Samsung products. It combines scheduled linear channels with available on-demand programming. Samsung describes it as “completely free, ad-supported,” so access does not require a TV Plus subscription or a credit card under the cited US support FAQ. Internet access is required.
“Free” refers to the service fee, not to connectivity. Your home broadband plan, mobile plan, or any data allowance remains your responsibility. The service can also show advertising in Samsung device surfaces and, where available, inside applications; the location and format of those ads vary by region, model, and model year.

Is Samsung TV Plus really free, and why are there ads?
What you pay
- There is no separate TV Plus subscription charge identified in Samsung’s US FAQ.
- The service is funded by advertising rather than a monthly viewing fee.
- Internet service is still necessary, and mobile operators may charge for streamed data.
What to expect from advertising
Commercial breaks are part of the programming model. Samsung’s Smart Hub information also says ads may appear on device surfaces and, where available, within apps such as TV Plus. Ad availability, placement, and format can differ by country, device, and model year. The cited Samsung material does not establish a universal ad-free TV Plus tier, so do not assume that a paid option will remove commercials.

Which channels are available in your country?
There is no single worldwide channel list. TV Plus programming is regional and can also be affected by the device and operating system you use. A channel shown on a Samsung television in one country may not be offered on a Galaxy phone in another market, and lineups can change as rights and programming schedules change.
How to check the current lineup
- Connect the Samsung device to the internet.
- Open the TV Plus application or tile from the device’s Home or launcher screen.
- Open the Guide to see the channels currently delivered to that device and location.
- For a country-level overview, consult Samsung’s regional TV Plus page; the Guide on your own device is the more useful check for actual availability.
Samsung’s US support FAQ warns that channels may change or disappear without prior notice. A missing channel therefore does not necessarily indicate a fault; it may have been removed, renamed, or restricted in your market.
How large is the service?
Samsung’s 2026 newsroom and advertising pages claim more than 3,500 ad-supported linear channels in 30 countries and availability on more than 630 million devices worldwide. These are Samsung’s global, time-sensitive company figures, not an independent measurement or a promise that any particular country or model receives every channel.

Which devices support Samsung TV Plus?
Samsung identifies the following supported categories. Eligibility within a category depends on the exact model, country, operating system, and service rollout.
| Device category | What Samsung’s support information says | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Smart TVs | Smart TVs released after 2016; the US FAQ describes 2016-and-newer models in select areas. | Model, country, software, and network support vary. |
| Samsung projectors | Supported on eligible models and in eligible markets. | Not every projector includes the service. |
| Galaxy phones and tablets | Supported Galaxy devices can use TV Plus; Samsung directs users to Galaxy Store or Google Play when the app is not already installed. | Availability depends on Galaxy model, country, and app support. |
| Samsung Smart Monitors | Listed by Samsung as a supported category. | Specific model and regional limitations apply. |
| Family Hub refrigerators | Listed as a supported category. | Market and model limits apply; a Family Hub product is not automatically eligible everywhere. |
Samsung’s terms also state that features and content can vary with country, device, operating system, network operator, bandwidth, and connection speed. Treat a category listing as an eligibility guide, not a guarantee for a particular model.
How to start watching
On a Samsung Smart TV or projector
- Connect the television or projector to a working internet connection.
- Press Home on the Samsung remote.
- Select the TV Plus tile or app. On some models it appears in the launcher or channel row rather than as a separate downloadable app.
- Open Guide to browse live channels, then select a program to watch.
If TV Plus is absent, first check the model year and country, confirm that the device is online, and install available system updates. A supported product can still lack the service when Samsung has not enabled it for that market.

On a Galaxy phone or tablet
- Connect over Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Look for the Samsung TV Plus app. If it is not preinstalled, Samsung’s Help Center directs you to Galaxy Store or Google Play.
- Open the app and use its channel guide to select a stream.
- When using mobile data, verify your carrier allowance before watching for long periods.
On a Smart Monitor or Family Hub refrigerator
Open the TV Plus app or launcher entry supplied with the eligible device, then use its guide. The exact controls differ by model. If no TV Plus entry appears, verify the product’s regional eligibility and software version rather than assuming the service has been discontinued.
Does TV Plus use mobile data?
Yes. Streaming on a Galaxy phone or tablet transfers video data, and Samsung specifically warns that mobile data-usage rates may apply. The amount consumed is not a fixed number: it changes with video quality, viewing time, device, network conditions, and the terms of your mobile or broadband plan. Samsung’s terms identify bandwidth and connection speed as factors that affect service quality.
Ways to avoid an unexpected bill
- Use Wi-Fi for routine viewing, especially live channels watched for an hour or more.
- Check your carrier’s data policy and any streaming limits before using cellular data.
- Watch your device’s data-usage meter while testing TV Plus on mobile.
- If playback quality changes on a congested connection, remember that lower quality may reduce data use but can also reduce picture clarity.
Samsung does not publish one universal data-per-hour figure in the cited support material, so any estimate that ignores resolution, device, and watch time would be misleading.

Does Samsung TV Plus track what you watch?
Some viewing-related collection is optional, while other information is covered by Samsung’s general privacy disclosures. Samsung’s privacy policy says service use may involve device information and identifiers, including an IP address, advertising IDs, and Samsung visual-display identifiers, as well as cookies or similar technologies, settings, and analytics data. Samsung says this information can be used to provide the service, customize content, and deliver personalized or generalized advertising where permitted.
Automatic Content Recognition (ACR)
Samsung’s ACR FAQ describes ACR as an optional feature that can collect viewing history, including programs viewed and the amount of time spent watching. It may also use a Personalized Service ID and IP address. Samsung says ACR runs only when enabled, can be turned off in TV settings, and does not mean Samsung records or watches the content displayed on the television.

Samsung states that you have the right to opt out of ACR and collection of viewing history at any time. Turn the relevant viewing-information or interest-based options off in your television’s privacy settings; menu names and locations vary by model and software version. Less viewing information can mean less personalized recommendations or advertising. Samsung’s disclosures indicate that generalized advertising can still appear after those choices are disabled.
Troubleshooting common TV Plus problems
| Symptom | Likely explanation | Checks to make |
|---|---|---|
| TV Plus does not appear | The model, country, or software is not eligible, or the device is offline. | Confirm internet access, model-year eligibility, regional support, and system updates. |
| A familiar channel is missing | Lineups are regional and can change or disappear without notice. | Refresh the Guide and check the regional lineup; do not assume the device is defective. |
| Video buffers or quality drops | Bandwidth or connection speed is insufficient or fluctuating. | Test the network on the device, reduce other network traffic, and try a more stable connection. |
| Mobile data is used faster than expected | Long viewing sessions and higher video quality consume more data. | Switch to Wi-Fi, review the carrier’s data meter, and limit cellular streaming. |
| Ads still appear after privacy changes | Turning off personalization does not necessarily remove generalized advertising. | Review the privacy choices again and distinguish ad personalization from the presence of ads. |
| The app is missing on a Galaxy device | The model or market may not support it, or the app is not preinstalled. | Check Galaxy Store or Google Play and verify the device’s regional eligibility. |
How TV Plus compares with another free streaming service
If you are deciding whether to use TV Plus alongside another FAST service, compare the attributes that actually affect your device and bill rather than relying on a worldwide channel-count headline.
Quick Recap
| Comparison question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Is it available in your country and on your exact device? | A service can be broad globally but unavailable on your model or in your market. |
| Does it offer the live channels and on-demand catalog you want? | Channel names and rights differ by region, and catalogs change. |
| How are ads delivered? | Check commercial load, ad placement, and whether personalization controls are offered. |
| What happens on mobile data? | Streaming may count against a carrier allowance regardless of whether the service itself is free. |
| What viewing-history controls exist? | Look for clear ACR, recommendation, advertising, and opt-out settings. |
| Is a separate subscription or account required? | Account requirements and payment terms differ even among free-to-view services. |
