If your Samsung TV switches to an HDMI input when you turn on another device, the usual cause is Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC): it lets connected devices tell the TV to select their input. To stop unwanted switching, update the TV, then use Samsung’s remote-specific procedure to disable automatic HDMI switching. If that does not work, identify the device sending the signal or turn Anynet+ off in the TV settings if your model offers that option.
Why your Samsung TV changes sources by itself
Anynet+ is Samsung’s name for HDMI Consumer Electronics Control (HDMI-CEC). When it is enabled, compatible devices connected over HDMI can communicate with the TV. A device turning on or beginning playback may prompt the TV to turn on and select that device’s input. Samsung also notes that an external device can send an erroneous signal and trigger a switch even when it is not in use. Samsung’s source-switching guide describes both behaviors.
This is expected CEC behavior, but it can be disruptive if you want to keep watching another source. Anynet+ is available on most Samsung Smart TVs made after 2008, but availability and controls are not universal; menu names and behavior can vary by model, software version, region, and remote.

| Option | Use it when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Disable automatic HDMI switching with the remote procedure | You want to stop source changes but keep other Anynet+ features if your TV permits that separation. | The button sequence depends on whether you have an IR remote or a Smart Remote; the TV provides no confirmation message. |
| Turn off Anynet+ in TV settings | Your model exposes the Anynet+ setting and you want to stop HDMI-CEC communication generally. | Compatible HDMI devices may no longer be controlled or powered on and off through the TV’s HDMI control features. |
If only one device appears to trigger switching, start by checking that device rather than disabling useful controls for every HDMI connection.

Update the TV before changing the setting
Samsung says some models gained the ability to turn automatic HDMI switching on or off through a TV software update. Check for and install available TV software updates before trying the remote sequence. Menu labels for updates vary by model; consult the TV’s model-specific manual if the path is not obvious.
Disable automatic switching with your remote
Use only the sequence that matches your remote. Point it at the TV. Samsung says there is no on-screen confirmation for either procedure, so verify the result by turning on a connected HDMI device afterward.

For an IR remote
- Point the remote at the TV and press Mute → 7 → 2 → 9 → Exit.
- Turn on a connected HDMI device and see whether the TV switches to its input.
- If it still switches, enter the sequence again more quickly.
For a Smart Remote
- Make sure the TV is on the TV source, not an HDMI input.
- Point the Smart Remote at the TV and press Mute → Volume Down → Channel Down → Mute. On this remote, activate Mute by pressing inward on the volume control.
- Turn on a connected HDMI device and check whether the TV changes to its input.
- If it still switches, repeat the sequence more quickly.
Samsung distinguishes Bluetooth-paired Smart Remotes from IR remotes, so do not combine the two button sequences. See Samsung’s instructions for source switching if you need to identify which procedure applies.
Turn off Anynet+ in the TV settings
If the remote procedure does not solve the problem, or you prefer to disable HDMI-CEC altogether, look for Anynet+ in External Device Manager. Samsung lists these paths for different generations of TVs:

- Many newer models: Settings → All Settings → Connection → External Device Manager → Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC).
- Earlier models: Settings → General → External Device Manager → Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC).
Turn Anynet+ off if the option is available. The setting may be absent or located elsewhere on some models. Samsung’s Anynet+ guide notes that model menus differ. The US support page also describes a separate workaround for Samsung TVs and the Odyssey Ark, so settings are not identical across every product.
If the TV still switches, isolate the device sending the command
Check one HDMI device at a time
If the switching seems tied to one console, streaming device, or other HDMI component, update that device’s firmware and check its manufacturer’s support guidance. Samsung attributes some unwanted switching to erroneous signals from external devices and recommends firmware checks or contacting the device manufacturer. If the device has its own HDMI-CEC setting, turning CEC off there may stop its commands while leaving Anynet+ available for other devices.

Check the HDMI connection if CEC is unreliable generally
- Confirm that the connected devices support Anynet+.
- Check that the devices use a high-speed HDMI cable. Samsung notes that some HDMI cables may not support Anynet+; try another cable if communication is unreliable. A cable change is not a guaranteed fix for a device sending unwanted CEC commands.
- Unplug connected devices for a few minutes, then reconnect them.
- Check for firmware updates for the TV and connected devices.
Samsung lists a TV factory reset as a later option if Anynet+ problems persist. Since resetting can affect other TV settings, consult the model-specific instructions before using it. These connection checks are intended for broader HDMI-CEC reliability issues, not as the first response to a single device causing unwanted input changes. See Samsung’s Anynet+ troubleshooting guidance.

How to confirm the change worked
After applying the remote procedure or changing the setting, turn on a connected HDMI device while the TV is on a different source. If the TV stays on that source, the unwanted automatic switch has stopped. Samsung does not display a confirmation message for the remote sequences, so this real-world check is the way to verify the result.

If the TV still changes sources, note the TV’s model code, software version, remote type, and which device was powered on when the switch occurred. Those details help you find the correct manual or get model-specific guidance from Samsung Support. Samsung Gulf’s source-switching guidance also emphasizes that available controls can vary by model.
