If Auto Program is unavailable or finds no channels, first switch the Samsung TV to its TV or live-TV source. The scan uses the TV’s own tuner, so it will not configure channels delivered by an HDMI-connected cable or satellite box. For an antenna, make sure its coaxial cable is connected securely to the TV’s ANT IN input, then run the scan with the signal type that matches your setup.
Why Auto Program may not work
The right fix depends on whether the menu is disabled, the scan finds no channels, or you receive channels through a separate receiver.

- Broadcasting is greyed out: The TV may be on a streaming device, app, or set-top-box input instead of its own TV tuner. Samsung U.S. Support says, “The Broadcasting menu will be greyed out if you do not change the source to TV.” (Samsung U.S. Support.)
- The scan finds no channels or too few: The coax connection may be loose, the selected scan type may not match the signal, or reception may be weak or unavailable where you are.
- You use a cable or satellite box: The box handles channel selection. The TV’s tuner scan does not set up the box; use its HDMI input and follow the provider’s or receiver’s setup instructions.
Check the connection and select the right source
- Identify how you receive channels: an antenna connected to the TV, a cable wall connection directly to the TV, or a cable or satellite receiver connected over HDMI.
- If you use a receiver, select its HDMI input and set up channels through that device or your provider. A TV tuner scan is for broadcast signals received by the TV itself.
- For an antenna or direct-to-TV coax connection, check that the cable is firmly seated in the TV’s ANT IN input. Some Samsung setups use the antenna input on a One Connect Box instead.
- If you are scanning with the TV’s tuner, change the source to TV or live TV. The exact source-menu wording varies by model and software version.
Run Auto Program or Auto Tuning
Once the TV is on its tuner source and the signal cable is connected, look for Settings > Broadcasting > Auto Program or Auto Tuning. Select Start and choose the option that matches the connection offered by your TV. Samsung’s U.S. guidance describes Air for antenna and Cable for cable reception; labels and steps can differ by region and model. See Samsung’s U.S. channel-scan instructions.

If the scan finds nothing or misses channels
- Reseat the coax cable at the TV or One Connect Box and at the antenna or wall connection.
- Confirm that you chose the option matching the signal. If channels come through a receiver, use that device rather than scanning the TV tuner.
- If your TV provides signal-strength information, check it and adjust the antenna’s position before scanning again.
- Remember that reception depends on your location, local stations, and signal conditions. Samsung UK notes that channel counts vary by location and station, and that weak signals or local signal work can affect reception. (Samsung UK channel troubleshooting, updated June 14, 2022.)
- Check whether a software update is available. Samsung lists updates as a possible troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix.
When Samsung’s menu path does not match
Samsung’s menu names and screens vary by model, region, and software version. If you cannot find Broadcasting, Auto Program, or Auto Tuning after selecting the TV source, use the manual for your exact model rather than assuming every Samsung TV has the same path. Samsung’s U.S. scan guide and India setup guide illustrate regional differences; the 2018 Frame Series manual applies to that model family and is not a universal menu guide.
If source selection, cable checks, and reception checks do not resolve the problem, consult the model-specific manual or contact Samsung support. For a receiver-based service, contact the provider or receiver manufacturer.
