To reset most Samsung top-load washers, turn the washer off at the outlet or circuit breaker, leave it without power for about one minute, then restore power. Samsung does not describe a universal reset button; it calls a power cycle the general reset-like action. If an error or fault returns, diagnose that problem instead of repeatedly resetting the washer.
Choose the right kind of reset

Samsung US says there is not a dedicated way to reset the washer and recommends a power cycle instead: Samsung’s washer reset guidance. Samsung Canada advises resetting only once unless troubleshooting specifically calls for another reset: Samsung Canada’s reset guidance, updated July 2, 2026.
Power-cycle the washer
- Record any displayed error first. A reset may clear the code or error history, which could be useful when diagnosing a recurring problem.
- Turn off power. Unplug the washer if the plug is safely accessible, or switch off the circuit breaker supplying it.
- Wait about one minute. Samsung Canada recommends about one minute; Samsung US gives a usual wait of 1–5 minutes. Follow your model’s manual if it specifies a different procedure.
- Restore power and try the washer again. If it works, treat that as a possible temporary recovery, not proof that the original fault is fixed.
- If the same code or symptom returns, stop resetting. Use Samsung’s troubleshooting for that code or symptom, or request service.
Samsung’s guidance on washing-machine information and error codes explains that codes identify issues requiring troubleshooting. For example, 4E/4C can indicate a water-fill problem. A reset may clear the displayed code temporarily, but it will not correct a supply or installation issue.

Reset Wi-Fi on a supported smart washer
Use this separate procedure only if your washer has Wi-Fi capability and you are trying to refresh its network connection. The controls are model-dependent, so check your manual first.

- Hold Smart Control until “AP” appears, about 3 seconds.
- Hold Temp until “OK” appears, about 7 seconds. The display returns to “AP.”
- Turn the washer off. The next connection attempt can refresh network information.
This procedure erases network information; it does not address a washer error or mechanical fault. See Samsung’s reset instructions and verify the controls against the manual for your model.
If the washer buttons do not respond
- Check whether Child Lock is active.
- Confirm the selected cycle allows the setting you are trying to change; some options are unavailable in particular cycles.
- If appropriate, unplug the washer for 60 seconds, reconnect it, and try again.
- If controls remain unresponsive, follow Samsung’s troubleshooting for washing-machine buttons that do not work or request service.
Why your model’s manual matters
Button names, available features, and control sequences vary across Samsung washers. Do not assume a procedure shown for one top-load model applies to another. For example, Samsung’s support page for the WA54M8750AV/A4 provides that model’s own user manual: WA54M8750AV/A4 support and manual. Use the manual for your exact model when its instructions differ from general guidance.
