The Samsung SRF886SCLS is a discontinued Australian-market, 886-litre French-door refrigerator. Its historical specifications show a large four-door layout and 2.5-star energy rating, but the public listing does not reveal the independent test scores needed to judge cooling, noise or reliability. It is best assessed today as a legacy or second-hand appliance—not as a currently available new model.
What the SRF886SCLS is—and what its capacity figures mean
CHOICE lists the SRF886SCLS as a stainless-steel French-door refrigerator with 886 L total volume. Its listing gives claimed capacities of 470 L for the refrigerator and 275 L for the freezer. A historical launch report instead calls it an “886L Four-door French Door Showcase” and gives the same compartment figures. The 470 L and 275 L figures add to 745 L, not 886 L; the available listings do not explain the difference, so treat the figures as source-reported rather than as a reconciled usable-capacity measurement. Layout and features described at launch
The launch report describes removable shelving, a one-touch drawer and smart guard, two easy-slide freezer drawers, internal lighting and Samsung Space Max technology. These are historical product descriptions, not independent evidence of storage usability or performance.

CHOICE lists a 2015 test year, but its Expert Rating and detailed category scores are available to members only. The categories include food freshness, temperature stability and evenness, temperature range, response to outside temperature, default setting, heat-load processing, running cost and noise. Without those results, the public listing cannot support a verdict on how well this refrigerator cools, keeps an even temperature, handles warm conditions, or how noisy it is.

CHOICE’s public listing identifies the test year and the member-only status of the results. It does not justify inferring a positive or negative test outcome.

These numbers have different contexts: two are listing values, one is a claimed annual energy-use figure, and one is a historical launch price. None establishes the cost or terms of buying or operating an SRF886SCLS today.
Will it fit? Check the conflicting depth measurements
The reported dimensions are not consistent on depth. CHOICE lists external dimensions of 178 cm high, 91 cm wide and 97 cm deep, with recommended installation dimensions of 188 cm high, 101 cm wide and 107 cm deep. The historical launch report gives 1,777 mm high, 908 mm wide and 788 mm deep without the door. The available sources do not resolve whether different measurement conventions explain the depth gap. Use the exact installation documentation for the unit you are considering rather than assuming the figures are interchangeable.

Before arranging delivery or installation, measure the opening and the full route into the home, including turns and doorways. Check door swing, required clearance and ventilation space against the model’s installation instructions. The CHOICE figures are listing data, not a substitute for the appliance’s original installation requirements.
Water filter and maintenance checks
An archived manual page for a Samsung French-door refrigerator identifies a water filter and an optional ice maker, but it does not verify the replacement cartridge for this exact model. Samsung Australia’s general refrigerator guidance says: “Check and replace the water filter every 6 months or if you notice sediment, discolouration, or unusual taste or smell.” That is general advice; use the SRF886SCLS manual for model-specific instructions. Samsung Australia’s filter guidance recommends genuine filters but does not identify a compatible SRF886SCLS cartridge.
Before buying a replacement, check the model and serial label, the marking on the filter currently installed, and the original manual or Samsung support. Compatibility, current cartridge availability and local service coverage are not established by the public information cited here. What owners and second-hand shoppers should verify
