In most Samsung soundbar systems, the included wireless subwoofer pairs automatically: connect both power cords, turn on the soundbar, and wait for the subwoofer’s LINK light to turn solid blue. A blinking LINK light means pairing is still in progress or has not completed. If it keeps blinking, use the ID SET procedure for your exact soundbar model; Samsung uses different remote buttons and timings across models and regions.

What the LINK light tells you

The subwoofer’s LINK indicator is the quickest way to determine whether setup succeeded.

LINK indicator Meaning What to do
Solid blue The subwoofer and soundbar are linked. Play audio and confirm that bass is present.
Blinking blue The subwoofer is attempting to pair, recovering the connection, or has not completed pairing. Allow the automatic process time to finish. If it continues blinking, perform manual ID SET pairing.
No expected change after power-up The unit may not be receiving power, or the model-specific pairing process may be required. Check both power connections, then follow the exact manual for the soundbar model.

Samsung describes a successful connection as the LINK LED stopping its blink and glowing solid blue. The light is more reliable than judging the connection by volume alone, because a source can be playing quietly or with little bass.

Prepare the soundbar and subwoofer

You do not normally need an audio cable between the soundbar and its compatible wireless subwoofer. Start with the supplied power cords and a clear path between the units. Ordinary pairing does not require buying an accessory or subscribing to a service.

  • PICK UP EVERY PIECE OF DIALOGUE: Hear voices more clearly with automatically amplified dialogue allowing it to stand out so you don't miss a word, no matter what you're watching.

Check these prerequisites

  • Use the subwoofer intended for the exact soundbar model, especially if the unit is a replacement.
  • Plug the soundbar and subwoofer into working wall outlets. If an indicator never lights, test the outlet with another appliance and reseat each power cord.
  • Remove packaging, shipping locks, or protective film that could obstruct a recessed ID SET control.
  • Keep the remote within range of the soundbar for manual pairing and install working batteries.
  • Have the soundbar’s model number available. It is usually printed on a label on the rear, underside, or original documentation.
  • For the first attempt, place the two units in the same room and relatively close together. You can optimize placement after the link is stable.

Do not assume that a Samsung-branded wireless subwoofer is interchangeable with every Samsung soundbar. Compatibility is model-specific, and the manual or Samsung support specification for your soundbar is the authority.

Automatic pairing: the normal setup

  1. Connect power. Plug the soundbar’s power cord into a wall outlet, then plug the subwoofer’s cord into a wall outlet.
  2. Turn on the soundbar. Use the soundbar’s power button or remote. The subwoofer should begin trying to establish its wireless link.
  3. Wait for the indicator. Watch the subwoofer’s LINK light. Allow several minutes for the initial attempt or for a connection to recover after power has been interrupted. Samsung advises allowing about five minutes when a connection is recovering.
  4. Confirm solid blue. When LINK is solid blue, the wireless connection is established.
  5. Test with audio. Play a program or music track with audible low frequencies. Keep the soundbar’s volume at a normal listening level while testing.

If LINK remains blinking after the waiting period, automatic pairing has not completed. Check the power cable first, then move to the manual procedure rather than repeatedly cycling power without changing anything. A brief blink immediately after startup is normal while the units search for one another.

Manual pairing with ID SET

ID SET puts the subwoofer and soundbar into a deliberate pairing mode. The controls are not identical on every Samsung soundbar, so use the sequence in the manual for your exact model. The following procedures illustrate the model and regional differences you may encounter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Sequence used by many models

  1. Leave the subwoofer connected to power.
  2. Press and hold the subwoofer’s ID SET control until its standby indicator turns off and the LINK light begins blinking quickly. A recessed button may require a small pointed household object; do not force it or insert anything into an unrelated opening.
  3. Turn the soundbar off.
  4. On the soundbar remote, press and hold Mute until the soundbar display shows ID SET.
  5. Turn the soundbar on while the subwoofer’s LINK light is still blinking.
  6. Wait for LINK to stop blinking and become solid blue.

The order matters: the subwoofer must be in its fast-blinking ID SET state when the soundbar receives the pairing command. If the light returns to its previous state before you turn the soundbar on, repeat the button hold for your model.

Some soundbars have an ID SET button on the soundbar itself, and some use a different remote button. If the display does not show ID SET, stop and consult the model manual instead of substituting a random button combination. Holding the wrong key can change another setting without pairing the subwoofer.

Another sequence used on some regional models

Samsung Australia documents a different sequence for some soundbars:

  1. Turn the soundbar off.
  2. Press and hold the subwoofer’s ID SET button for at least five seconds.
  3. Press and hold Up on the remote for five seconds, until the display shows ID SET.
  4. Allow the soundbar and subwoofer to complete the link, then check for a solid blue LINK light.

The difference is not an error in your equipment. Samsung changes the button assignment and timing by model and, in some cases, by regional instructions. The exact manual takes precedence over either generic sequence. Do not combine the Mute timing from one model with the Up-button timing from another.

  • PICK UP EVERY PIECE OF DIALOGUE: Hear voices more clearly with dialogue automatically amplified so you don't miss a word.

How to verify that bass is actually working

A solid blue LINK light confirms the wireless link, but a short listening test verifies the complete audio path.

  1. Start a movie, television program, or music track known to contain bass. Spoken dialogue or a quiet news program may not produce an obvious subwoofer response.
  2. Raise the soundbar volume gradually to a comfortable level.
  3. Listen near the subwoofer for low-frequency output, without placing your ear directly against the cabinet.
  4. If your soundbar has a bass or woofer-level control, make a small adjustment and listen for a clear difference.
  5. Return the control to a comfortable setting after testing.

If LINK is solid blue but the sound is thin, check the soundbar’s sound mode and bass level before repeating the pairing process. A wireless link can be established even when the source material contains little bass or the woofer level is set low. Confirm that the television or source is actually sending audio to the soundbar, rather than relying on the subwoofer light to diagnose the entire system.

Troubleshoot a blinking LINK light

Symptom Likely cause Action
LINK blinks immediately after turning on The automatic link is still being attempted. Leave both units powered and wait several minutes. Check that the soundbar power cord is firmly connected.
LINK still blinks after about five minutes Automatic recovery did not complete. Turn the soundbar off and perform the model-specific ID SET sequence.
Pairing fails after a reset, service visit, or unit replacement The previous wireless relationship was cleared or the replacement needs to be registered. Use ID SET pairing and verify that the subwoofer is compatible with the exact soundbar model.
Connection drops, audio jitters, or bass arrives late Distance, an obstruction, or radio interference is weakening the wireless path. Move the subwoofer closer, clear objects between the units, and relocate nearby wireless equipment such as a router.
The stated button sequence does not work Your model uses another button, an on-device ID SET control, or different timing. Read the manual for the model number printed on your soundbar; do not rely on a sequence for another model.
LINK is solid blue but no bass is audible The wireless link is complete, but source content, sound mode, or woofer level may provide little low-frequency output. Test with bass-rich content and check the soundbar’s bass or woofer setting.
The light never illuminates The subwoofer may not be receiving power. Reseat the cord, try a known-working wall outlet, and check the model manual for the normal standby indication.

After every change, give the system enough time to show a result. Rapidly switching power, pressing several remote keys, and moving the units at the same time makes it difficult to identify the cause.

Improve wireless reliability

Samsung identifies physical obstructions, excessive separation, and nearby radio interference as causes of an unstable wireless connection. Make changes one at a time so you can tell which change helped.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Placement checklist

  • Place the subwoofer in the same room as the soundbar during initial pairing.
  • Move it closer to the soundbar if LINK repeatedly loses connection.
  • Clear furniture, large objects, and other equipment from the direct area between the units.
  • Keep the system away from a nearby wireless router or another strong radio source when troubleshooting noise or dropouts.
  • Once the LINK light is stable, move the subwoofer only a small distance at a time and retest.
  • Avoid hiding the subwoofer inside a tightly enclosed cabinet while diagnosing the connection; open placement makes the wireless path easier to assess.

The goal is not a particular measured distance; Samsung’s guidance is to reduce separation and interference when symptoms appear. A placement that works in one room may not work in another because walls, furniture, and wireless equipment differ.

What to do after a failed attempt

  1. Turn the soundbar off.
  2. Confirm that both power cords are fully seated and that the outlets work.
  3. Place the subwoofer nearer to the soundbar and remove obvious obstructions.
  4. Press the subwoofer’s ID SET control using the timing specified for your model.
  5. Use the correct remote button sequence for that model, such as Mute or Up where documented.
  6. Turn the soundbar on while the subwoofer’s LINK light is blinking quickly.
  7. Wait for solid blue LINK.
  8. If it still fails, repeat the procedure once with the units close together. Persistent failure after a correct retry points to a compatibility, control-sequence, power, or hardware issue that requires Samsung’s model-specific support guidance.

Do not buy a replacement solely because the light blinks. First rule out a loose power connection, incorrect ID SET sequence, and wireless interference. If the subwoofer was recently serviced or replaced, manual registration is especially likely to be required.

Replacing a missing or failed subwoofer

Samsung states that subwoofers can be purchased separately, but that does not mean every wireless subwoofer works with every soundbar. Compatibility must be checked against the exact soundbar model. There is no universal replacement part number or universal price that applies across the range.

Verify before purchasing

  • Record the complete soundbar model number, including suffixes that identify a regional or package variant.
  • Check the soundbar’s manual or Samsung support specification for compatible subwoofer information.
  • Confirm that the replacement uses the pairing method supported by your soundbar.
  • Make sure the seller identifies the unit as compatible with your exact model, not merely as a generic Samsung subwoofer.
  • Ask whether the unit is an original compatible component or a third-party replacement, and retain the seller’s compatibility statement.
  • After receiving it, pair it with the model-specific ID SET procedure before assuming the unit is defective.

No universal replacement part number can be given without the soundbar model. A listing that omits compatibility evidence is not enough to establish that the subwoofer will pair. For a normally functioning included subwoofer, no replacement purchase is needed at all.

Find the correct model instructions

Look for the model label on the rear or underside of the soundbar and write down every letter and number. Package names can resemble one another while using different remote controls or ID SET behavior. Search Samsung’s support area or the user manual using that complete identifier.

When reading the instructions, pay particular attention to:

  • Which unit must be off before ID SET begins.
  • Whether the subwoofer uses a recessed button or a standard button.
  • Which remote key starts ID SET.
  • How long each key must be held.
  • What the display and LINK light should show during pairing.
  • Whether the instructions are written for your region and exact package configuration.

If the manual’s wording conflicts with a generic online sequence, follow the manual for your model and region. Keep the manual available while pairing so you can compare the expected indicator behavior in real time.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to pair the subwoofer every time I turn on the system?

No. Once the compatible units are linked, they normally reconnect when powered. Manual ID SET is generally needed after a failed automatic connection, a reset, service, or replacement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use any Samsung wireless subwoofer as a replacement?

No universal interchangeability is established. Check the exact soundbar model and its documented compatible subwoofer before purchasing.

Is a blinking light always proof that the subwoofer is broken?

No. Blinking can mean the units are still attempting to connect, recovering, too far apart, obstructed, affected by radio interference, or using the wrong model-specific sequence.

What if I cannot find an ID SET button?

Some controls are recessed, and some soundbars place ID SET on the soundbar or assign a different remote key. Use the model label to locate the correct manual rather than forcing a hidden control.

How long should automatic pairing take?

Allow several minutes. Samsung advises waiting about five minutes when the subwoofer is recovering a connection. If LINK continues blinking after that, proceed to the exact manual pairing method.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I connect the subwoofer with an optical, HDMI, or speaker cable?

The compatible Samsung subwoofer is designed to link wirelessly to the soundbar, so an audio cable is not normally part of setup. Both units still require their own power cords.

Will moving my router fix intermittent bass?

It can help when radio interference is involved. Move the router or the soundbar system farther apart, clear obstructions, and retest. There is no guaranteed distance for every room.

Should I buy a new subwoofer when ID SET fails once?

No. First verify power, model compatibility, the correct button sequence, timing, and placement. A single failed attempt does not establish that the hardware has failed.

What information should I give Samsung support?

Provide the complete soundbar model number, the subwoofer model if shown, the LINK-light behavior, whether the system was reset or serviced, and the exact ID SET steps you tried. This lets support apply the correct regional and model-specific procedure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why is my Samsung subwoofer LINK light blinking?

It may still be pairing or recovering. Wait several minutes, check power, reduce distance and interference, then use the exact ID SET procedure for your model if it keeps blinking.

Do all Samsung soundbars use the same ID SET buttons?

No. Models and regions can use different remote keys, timings, or an ID SET button on the soundbar itself. Follow the manual for the complete model number.

Can I buy a replacement subwoofer separately?

Samsung says separate subwoofers are available, but compatibility is model-specific. Verify the exact soundbar model before buying; ordinary pairing requires no purchase.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I try if the LINK light is solid but bass is weak?

Test content with clear low frequencies, check the soundbar’s sound mode and woofer or bass level, and confirm that the source is sending audio to the soundbar.

Could a wireless router cause dropouts?

Nearby radio interference can affect wireless performance. Move the router or soundbar system apart and clear objects between the soundbar and subwoofer.

The Bottom Line

Connect both units, wait for automatic pairing, and use the solid blue LINK light as confirmation. If LINK keeps blinking, move the units closer, check power and interference, then follow the exact ID SET sequence for your soundbar model. Compatibility must be verified before buying a replacement subwoofer.
