A Samsung Smart Monitor is a display that combines traditional monitor use with built-in streaming apps and connected-device features. It can run supported services without a PC attached, while newer models add selected productivity and smart-home tools. The exact screen specifications and features depend on the model and country.
What makes a Samsung Smart Monitor different?
A conventional monitor displays video from a connected computer or other device. A Samsung Smart Monitor can also access supported streaming apps directly, so you can watch content without leaving a PC connected. Samsung includes its TV software and services on the display; internet access is required, and some features require a Samsung Account. App availability, subscriptions, and other terms vary by region and service. Samsung’s US product page and its UK lineup page describe these qualifications.
That combination can suit a desk where you want one screen for computer work and entertainment. It does not mean every Smart Monitor replaces a computer: Samsung describes access to particular apps and productivity features, not a complete substitute for every desktop workflow.

How the 2025 models differ
Samsung’s June 25, 2025 announcement covers the M9, M8, and M7. Samsung’s UK comparison also lists the M5, illustrating that lineup and specifications vary by market. The table uses the specifications stated in those sources; check the exact regional SKU before choosing.

The M9’s 165Hz refresh rate and gaming features make it the model to examine if fast-paced gaming matters. The cited M8 and M7 specifications are 60Hz, while the UK-listed M5 is Full HD at 60Hz. Those figures describe listed specifications, not independent comparative test results. Samsung’s 2025 announcement and UK comparison are the sources for the model details.
What you can do with its smart features
Stream without a connected computer
Supported streaming apps can run on the monitor itself, and Samsung identifies Samsung TV Plus as a source of live TV and on-demand content. Internet access is needed. App and service availability varies by country, and a subscription may be required for some services; the inclusion of smart features does not mean paid services are bundled. Check the local product page and the service’s terms.

Use selected productivity and connected-device tools
Samsung says newer models support access to Microsoft 365, Multi View, Multi Control, and SmartThings integration. These features can help combine work, device control, and entertainment on one screen, but availability depends on the model, region, accounts, connected devices, and service terms. They should not be read as a promise that the monitor can perform every task a computer can.

Samsung says the M9’s Gaming Hub supports cloud-based gaming without a connected console or PC. That does not establish that every game or service is available in every country, or that a subscription and peripherals are unnecessary. Confirm supported services and requirements for your location.

Expect model-specific AI and hardware
Samsung’s 2025 announcement assigns AI-powered discovery features to the M8 and M7, while the M9 is described with its own set of picture and upscaling tools. Camera, connection, and other hardware details also need checking by SKU rather than assuming they are common to the entire range. Samsung describes the M9 as Pantone Validated and says its coverage includes over 2,100 colors and more than 110 SkinTone shades; that is the manufacturer’s stated certification and coverage, not an independent measurement presented here.
How to choose the right model
Start with the display you need for your main task, then verify the exact model suffix and local feature list. Samsung’s regional pages are useful for listed specifications, but they do not provide an independent performance comparison.

- Screen size and resolution: The cited M9, M8, and M7 versions are 32-inch 4K models. The UK-listed M5 comes in 27- and 32-inch Full HD versions.
- Panel and refresh rate: The M9 uses QD-OLED and is listed at 165Hz. Samsung UK lists the M8 and M7 as VA at 60Hz, and the M5 as IPS at 27 inches or VA at 32 inches, both at 60Hz.
- Gaming needs: Consider refresh rate, response time, and the M9’s listed gaming features if you play fast-action games. Cloud gaming availability and requirements are service- and region-dependent.
- Connections and ergonomics: Check ports, USB-C, stand adjustment, and camera hardware on the exact SKU. The cited lineup information does not establish that these are identical across models.
- Smart features and accounts: Confirm that the apps and integrations you want are available in your country, and whether they require an account, subscription, compatible device, or particular network environment.
- Local support and availability: Samsung says model availability can vary by market. Verify the product page and support terms for the country where you plan to use it.
Software support and regional caveats
Samsung says eligible Smart Monitor models released in 2023 and onward receive up to seven years of free One UI Tizen upgrades. This is Samsung’s stated policy; confirm the current terms for the specific model. It is an operating-system upgrade statement, not a guarantee that every app or service will remain available for that period.
Samsung’s product notes also warn that features and apps can vary by country, model, provider, and network environment. The US and UK pages may therefore show different models or capabilities. The cited material describes manufacturer claims and specifications; it does not establish hands-on performance, comparative latency, long-term reliability, or whether a Smart Monitor is better for a particular person than separate monitor and TV devices.
