Samsung Secure Wi-Fi is a built-in feature on some Galaxy phones that encrypts Wi-Fi traffic, particularly when you connect to public or unreliable networks. Samsung says it can activate protection automatically, but availability, settings, and data allowances vary by device, software version, and region. Here’s how to find it, choose a protection mode, and understand its limits.
What Samsung Secure Wi-Fi does
Secure Wi-Fi is Samsung’s service for protecting internet traffic over a Wi-Fi connection. Samsung says it creates an encrypted tunnel using AES symmetric encryption and ECC-based asymmetric encryption. Samsung Knox describes the feature as intended to protect data from attacks over wireless networks. These are Samsung’s descriptions; the sources cited here do not independently measure how effectively the service prevents attacks.
Samsung also describes Enhanced Privacy Protection, which can route traffic through two separate relays so that no single relay can access your IP address. The feature’s availability can differ by phone and region. In 2025, Samsung announced an upgrade involving post-quantum cryptography for Secure Wi-Fi. That announcement describes a rollout; it does not establish that every supported Galaxy phone currently has the upgrade.
How to turn it on
- Open Settings and tap Security and privacy > Secure Wi-Fi. On some software versions, the setting may be in an additional security menu. If you cannot find it, search Settings for “Secure Wi-Fi.”
- Sign in to your Samsung account if prompted. Samsung also requires a stable Wi-Fi connection to start the service.
- Review the available protection plan and settings on your phone, then enable Secure Wi-Fi or choose a protection mode.
Samsung says Secure Wi-Fi is not supported on every Galaxy phone. Availability can depend on country, carrier, and network, so the setting may be absent even on a Galaxy device.

Choose a protection mode
Samsung UK documents three automatic protection modes. The exact labels and availability may vary by model, software version, and market.
| Mode | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Adaptive protection | Public or unreliable Wi-Fi networks. |
| Public Wi-Fi protection only | Public Wi-Fi networks. |
| DNS protection only | DNS requests, rather than the broader traffic protection described for the other modes. |
You can also manage trusted Wi-Fi networks, review protection activity, and select which apps use protection where those controls are available. If a particular app or website stops working, per-app controls may help you identify whether Secure Wi-Fi is causing a compatibility issue.

Check your plan and data allowance
Published plan details differ between Samsung’s regional support pages, so do not assume a figure from another country applies to your phone. Samsung says a Samsung account is required. Its US guidance says a purchased plan is for one device.

What Secure Wi-Fi does not guarantee
- It does not make you completely anonymous. Samsung’s relay description is a specific privacy feature, not a guarantee that no one can identify or track you.
- It is not a guarantee against account theft or every online threat. It protects the connection path as Samsung describes it; it does not replace strong account security, careful handling of links and messages, or device updates.
- It may affect speed or compatibility. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 manual warns that Wi-Fi may slow down and that some apps may not support the feature. Samsung also notes that some apps and websites may not work with a protected connection.
- Its availability and behavior vary. Device, country, carrier, network, and software version can affect whether the feature and its controls are available.
If Secure Wi-Fi is missing or an app will not connect
- Search Settings for “Secure Wi-Fi” in case your phone places it somewhere other than the documented menu.
- Check that your Galaxy model, carrier, country, and current network support the feature.
- Confirm that you are signed in to a Samsung account and connected to stable Wi-Fi when starting it.
- If only one app or site has a problem, review protected-app settings and try changing that app’s protection setting.
- If you are planning to rely on a particular allowance, verify the Protection plan screen on the device before you travel or connect.
