On most Samsung Galaxy phones, press the Side or Power button and Volume Down at the same time, then release both. The screen briefly flashes or shows a toolbar when the capture succeeds. If your model has a physical Home button, it may use Power and Home instead.
Take a screenshot with the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Side/Power button and Volume Down together briefly, then release. Avoid holding them down, which can trigger other controls on some devices.
- Look for the screenshot preview or toolbar. From there, available options may let you edit, crop, draw on, or share the image.

Other ways to capture the screen
Use Palm swipe to capture
Some Galaxy phones support capturing a screen by swiping the edge of your hand across it. If the option is available, enable it in Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures → Palm swipe to capture. Menu labels and availability depend on the model and software version. If you do not see the setting, your phone may not support the gesture.
Capture a long page with Scroll capture
For content that continues below the visible screen, take a regular screenshot first. If the Scroll capture control appears in the screenshot toolbar, tap it to extend the image; tap again to capture more of the page. The control is shown only when the content can scroll, and some apps or websites may not support it.

Capture and annotate with an S Pen
On compatible devices with an S Pen, open Air Command and choose Screen write to capture the display and annotate it. This option requires a supported device; an S Pen is not included with every Galaxy phone.
Ask a voice assistant
Bixby or Google Assistant may be able to take a screenshot on a device where the assistant is configured. Availability depends on the phone, assistant setup, and settings. Samsung’s Canada support guide describes these options alongside the other capture methods.

Find, edit, or share the screenshot
Samsung says screenshots are saved in Gallery. Its Canada guidance also points to My Files. Open the screenshot preview or toolbar after capture to see which editing and sharing controls your device offers; the options can differ by model and software.

- Check your button combination. Confirm which buttons your model uses, press them together briefly, and release. Devices with a physical Home button may use a different combination.
- Check whether the screen is protected. Apps or screens that handle sensitive information, including some banking apps, may block screenshots for privacy or security. A refusal can be expected, and there may be no permitted capture method.
- Check gesture support. Search Settings for “Palm swipe to capture.” If the setting is absent, the gesture may not be supported on your device.
- Check the content before looking for Scroll capture. The control appears only when the current screen has supported scrollable content.
- Account for software and provider differences. Samsung notes that feature availability and menu details, including for Secure Folder, can depend on the model, software version, and service provider. Consult the support page for your exact model if the instructions do not match.
Samsung’s US screenshot support page also covers device-dependent behavior and limits. The Gulf-region guidance was updated June 11, 2026, and the Canada guidance June 25, 2026; menu names can change with software updates and region.
