Choose the LG C6 if your priority is film and streaming performance, Dolby Vision support, higher measured SDR brightness, and a theater-style room. Choose the Samsung S90H if lights or windows create direct reflections on your screen; its matte finish is the stronger practical solution. Both are 2026 4K OLED televisions with four HDMI 2.1 ports and a 165Hz refresh rate, so the decision is mainly about HDR formats, room lighting, picture behavior, size availability, and the smart platform your household prefers.

Neither TV is the universal winner. Compare the same screen size in the same country, confirm the complete model suffix, and check the current retailer price before ordering. The comparison below uses the published evaluations from RTINGS and Tom’s Guide, plus official model information from LG and Samsung.

What the 2026 models are—and why model numbers matter

The C6 and S90H are current 2026 OLED families rather than older televisions with similar names. A model name alone is not enough for a safe purchase: screen size, country, tuner configuration, and the final suffix can change the product sold in a listing.

LG C6 sizes and US identity

LG’s US 2026 announcement lists six C6 sizes: 42, 48, 55, 65, 77, and 83 inches. LG gives a US launch starting MSRP of $1,399. That is announcement context, not a current sale price or a promise of stock. LG’s US 65-inch product page identifies the television as OLED65C6PUA: LG OLED65C6PUA specifications. Availability can differ outside the United States.

Samsung S90H sizes and US identity

Samsung’s US 65-inch listing identifies the S90H as QN65S90HAEXZA: Samsung QN65S90HAEXZA product page. Samsung uses different suffixes internationally, so do not assume a US code applies to an imported or locally sold set.

Why published size lists can conflict

Tom’s Guide lists the C6 in 42, 48, 55, and 65 inches and the S90H in 42, 48, 55, 65, 77, and 83 inches. That table reflects the models covered in its comparison, not a definitive statement that larger C6 televisions do not exist. The official LG announcement is the stronger reference for the announced US C6 range. Always open the local listing for the exact diagonal and suffix you intend to buy.

HDR formats: the clearest feature difference

LG C6: Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG

The C6 supports Dolby Vision, the base HDR10 format, and HLG. Dolby Vision is used by many major streaming services and discs and can carry dynamic scene-by-scene or frame-by-frame instructions when the source and playback chain support them. If your movie library, streaming subscriptions, or disc player specifically labels Dolby Vision, the LG avoids falling back to another HDR format.

Samsung S90H: HDR10, HDR10+, HDR10+ Advanced, and HLG

The S90H lists HDR10, HDR10+ and HDR10+ Advanced, plus HLG. HDR10+ is Samsung’s dynamic-metadata alternative to Dolby Vision. A title mastered in HDR10+ can use changing instructions through a film or episode when the application, source device, and television all support that format.

How to make the format decision

  • Choose the C6 when Dolby Vision availability is a deciding requirement for your streaming or disc setup.
  • Choose the S90H when your preferred services and devices are centered on HDR10+ and you do not need Dolby Vision.
  • Do not treat the format logo as a complete picture-quality verdict. Brightness, tone mapping, mastering quality, room reflections, and the source device also affect what you see.
  • HDR10 and HLG remain common fallback formats, so a title without dynamic metadata can still play on either television.

Brightness and reflections: match the panel to the room

Direct reflections favor the S90H

RTINGS identifies the LG’s finish as glossy and says the Samsung’s matte finish handles reflections better. A window, lamp, or bright wall directly opposite a glossy panel can create a visible mirror-like patch over dark scenes. Matte treatment scatters that reflection, making the image easier to watch when you cannot reposition the television or control the lighting.

Matte does not mean a room can never be dark enough for reflections to matter. It means the S90H is the more forgiving choice when direct light is the recurring problem. You should still place lamps to the side, avoid a window directly behind the sofa, and test the viewing angle from the seats you actually use.

Measured brightness favors different models in different tests

Tom’s Guide tested both televisions in Filmmaker mode and used a 10% window for its published brightness figures. The outlet measured the LG higher in SDR but the Samsung higher in HDR:

Tom’s Guide measurement (2026 tested samples) LG C6 Samsung S90H Interpretation
SDR brightness, 10% window 355 nits 226 nits The C6 sample produced more brightness in this SDR test.
HDR brightness, 10% window 1,355 nits 1,497 nits The S90H sample produced more brightness in this HDR test.

These are one outlet’s measurements of its review specimens and methodology. They are not manufacturer guarantees, and they should not be treated as identical results for every screen size. OLED brightness can also vary with the size and duration of a bright area, the selected picture mode, automatic brightness protection, and the content itself.

What the numbers mean in practice

The SDR result matters for ordinary television, sports, menus, and older movies watched during the day. The HDR result matters for small highlights such as sunlight, explosions, and specular reflections in HDR-mastered content. Because each test points to a different model, room lighting and viewing habits should decide more than a single peak number.

Color coverage and input latency

Tom’s Guide also reported color-gamut coverage from its Filmmaker-mode testing. The C6 covered 99.77% of UHDA-P3 and 75.92% of Rec.2020; the S90H covered 109.61% of UHDA-P3 and 77.83% of Rec.2020. Coverage above 100% in a color space is possible because the result describes the measured gamut volume or area relative to that reference, not a claim that every program will visibly use those extra colors.

Tom’s Guide color result (2026 tested samples) LG C6 Samsung S90H
UHDA-P3 coverage 99.77% 109.61%
Rec.2020 coverage 75.92% 77.83%

Input latency was 9.1 milliseconds for the C6 and 9.3 milliseconds for the S90H in the same published comparison. Those are close results from tested units; they do not establish a universal winner for every resolution, refresh rate, picture mode, or firmware version.

Gaming and connectivity

Tom’s Guide lists four HDMI 2.1 ports and a 165Hz refresh rate for both models. That gives each television the headline bandwidth and refresh-rate capability expected by users connecting multiple modern consoles and a gaming PC. The shared specification means you should decide using the factors that differ rather than assuming one set is automatically the better gaming display.

Before connecting a gaming system

  1. Confirm that the specific regional model and size retain the four HDMI 2.1 ports and 165Hz capability shown in the listing you are buying.
  2. Use certified, high-bandwidth HDMI cables for the devices that need the highest refresh rates.
  3. Enable the television’s game-optimized picture setting only after checking which image controls it changes; modes can trade processing for latency.
  4. Set the console or PC to the resolution and refresh rate it can actually output. A 165Hz television cannot make a console render frames it does not produce.
  5. Check the input label and source-device settings if you see a lower refresh rate, blank screen, or intermittent signal.

The published data establishes ports, refresh rate, and measured latency. It does not establish identical support for every variable-refresh implementation, gaming menu, or regional firmware feature, so verify those details in the local specification sheet if they are essential to your setup.

Smart TV software: webOS 26 versus Tizen OS

The C6 runs webOS 26, while the S90H runs Tizen OS. The available sources do not establish a universal platform winner. The practical choice is the one that supports the apps, sign-in methods, accessibility tools, and household habits you already use.

Choose based on your household workflow

  • List the streaming, live-TV, music, and cloud-gaming apps each person uses before buying.
  • Check whether your preferred service is available in your country and on the exact 2026 model, rather than relying on a review from another region.
  • Consider remote-control layout and how often you switch between built-in apps and external boxes.
  • If you already use a separate streaming box, smart-platform differences may matter less than the panel, ports, and remote you will use for settings.

Which TV fits common room and content scenarios?

Dark or controlled theater room

The LG C6 is the safer default when you can control lamps and windows and spend most of your time with films or premium streaming. Dolby Vision support, the glossy finish, and the stronger measured SDR result align with a content-first setup where reflections are not the dominant issue.

Bright living room with a window opposite the sofa

The Samsung S90H deserves priority when direct reflections repeatedly cover faces or dark scenes. Its matte panel is the specific advantage identified by RTINGS. Place the set so light strikes from the side where possible; matte treatment reduces reflections but does not eliminate glare from every angle.

Mixed HDR subscriptions

Inventory the formats your services actually deliver. If Dolby Vision titles make up a meaningful part of your viewing, the C6 removes a compatibility concern. If your devices and subscriptions emphasize HDR10+, the S90H may integrate more naturally. For ordinary HDR10 and HLG content, neither format list alone predicts which picture you will prefer.

Large-screen installation

LG’s US announcement explicitly includes a 77-inch and 83-inch C6, while comparison tables may show only the sizes reviewed by that outlet. If you need a large panel, confirm that the retailer’s page shows the exact diagonal, model suffix, shipping region, and warranty rather than assuming every size is stocked everywhere.

Price, availability, and how to compare fairly

LG’s $1,399 figure is the US starting MSRP announced for the 2026 C6 line. It is not a current transaction price, and no live retailer price or stock position is established here. Samsung’s product identity is documented, but a comparable current MSRP is not provided by the sources above.

For a meaningful deal comparison:

  1. Match the same diagonal, such as 65 inches against 65 inches.
  2. Match the same country and currency; imported suffixes can represent different tuners, warranties, or included accessories.
  3. Compare the complete model code, not only “C6” or “S90H.”
  4. Check whether the displayed amount is a recurring price, limited promotion, membership offer, or bundle.
  5. Confirm delivery, returns, dead-pixel policy, and warranty coverage before paying.

Buying and setup checklist

  • Room: Identify the brightest reflection source and whether you can move it. If you cannot, give the S90H’s matte finish serious weight.
  • Content: Check whether Dolby Vision or HDR10+ is the format your library uses most.
  • Size: Measure viewing distance, wall width, stand depth, and doorway clearance; then verify the exact local size listing.
  • Model code: Record the full suffix shown on the retailer and manufacturer pages.
  • Connections: Count consoles, PC, soundbar, disc player, and streaming boxes. Both published comparisons list four HDMI 2.1 ports, but confirm the regional specification.
  • Calibration: Start with the manufacturer’s filmmaker-oriented mode for movies, then adjust brightness and color for your room rather than copying settings from a different size.
  • Installation: If wall-mounting, verify the selected model’s VESA pattern, weight, mounting hardware, and wall construction. The comparison sources do not establish a universal mount specification for every size.
  • Returns: Keep packaging until you have checked uniformity, ports, HDR playback, and the absence of damage.

Common mistakes and fixes

Buying from the model name alone

Problem: A listing uses the family name but omits the suffix or region. Fix: Match the code to the official local page and confirm diagonal, tuner, warranty, and included accessories.

Assuming Dolby Vision or HDR10+ guarantees a better picture

Problem: A format logo is treated as a quality score. Fix: Evaluate the source mastering, room reflections, brightness behavior, and the picture mode together.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Comparing different sizes as if they were identical

Problem: A measured 65-inch review result is applied to every diagonal. Fix: Treat the Tom’s Guide figures as tested-sample evidence and recheck the specification for your chosen size.

Ignoring reflections because peak HDR brightness is high

Problem: A bright highlight cannot compensate for a lamp reflected across the entire dark scene. Fix: Solve the light path first; choose the matte S90H when the reflection is unavoidable.

Assuming a 165Hz panel creates 165 frames per second

Problem: The television’s refresh capability is confused with the console or PC’s rendering output. Fix: Configure the source device, cable, and game together and verify the actual signal shown by the television.

Final decision

The LG C6 is the better default for a movie-focused room when Dolby Vision, higher measured SDR brightness, and a glossy theater-style presentation matter most. The Samsung S90H is the more practical choice when direct reflections are the main obstacle, with a matte finish and higher measured HDR brightness in Tom’s Guide’s 10% test. Because both publish four HDMI 2.1 ports and 165Hz capability, your room, HDR library, exact size, regional model code, and current price should make the final call.
